Just finished watching IT Chapter 2 and was lying in my sleeping bag half dreaming when it barked a couple hundred meters away in the creek ravine. Just out of curiosity, Was this video taken in Texas? And if so, was it near the DFW/Waco area? I was outside and I heard a screech and was curious as to what animal it could possibly be. This was the closest sound to the one I heard (almost identical) and to my understanding we only have White Tail and Exotic Deer ( They seem to escape captivity).

I had my volume turned up quite a bit, because i barely heard the distant noise of wind, leafs crackling, crickets and stuff, and i was looking away, when she suddenly go BAAAHHHH!!!!! and i died there

They live and thrive here where we live in the Montana mountains. I'll record them and share next time I hear them. Relieved the sounds weren't mountain lion. They're here too! I was walking my dogs through the woods on my place one evening about 9 months ago and all of the sudden I heard this sound about twice as loud as the doe on your video behind me and I had no idea what it was. I turned around, startled, and there was a large doe barking at me. I figured she had a baby hidden nearby because the deer on our place like to utilize our woods. That was the first time I ever heard this noise and never knew deer would even make such a noise. Yours was the only video With the right sound to try to describe the noise to my daughters. Thanks!

Me and my mom in law literally just heard it maybe 10 ft away from our front porch in the woods surrounding our home. Made all the hair on my arms and neck stand up.
Imagine you're walking around the forest at night. No moon, no light anywhere. You can't see more than a few feet. You hear some bushes rustle. Not like a squirrel. Not like a racoon. But something that must be large. You freeze because you're a tad spooked. You stand very still for a minute or two. Very long minutes. And then that sound. I was bloody scared out of my skin. But my curiosity took precedents over my fear. Eventually it walked away. It took hours of searching the internet before I found a different video than this with a very similar sound.
I just looked for this because at 4:45 am I heard this outside my window. Scared me! We have a ton of coyote here and I knew it wasn’t their eerie vocalizations. So I searched “screaming dear”. This was it. Woke me from a sound sleep and scared the bejeebers out of me. 😆

It’s a roe deer. Look at the proportions and listen to the sound, it’s the same sound that a roe deer makes I’m still not sure though. Could be a pelican, or a legitimate crawler.

They do sound similar in a way to Fox's but the fox sounds more like a woman screaming

Why do deer do this? Is it a call for members of the herd? Are they scared?
I believe they do it to warn other deer of a predator, such as a bear or cougar. Could also be a defense mechanism used to startle a predator maybe?
