    I always liked how at 0:35 you could tell by Sidao's expression and concentration that he took the Red Lotus Chief a lot more seriously than the Whirlwind Tiger in episode 3. Sidao was no pushover by any means of the imagination.

    • @AnExtraordinaryGentleman
      @AnExtraordinaryGentleman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol at the end of the day Sidao was still a practitioner of kung fu, which is a pretty useless martial. So Sidao kinda WAS a pushover, unless you're pitting him against other people who practice kung fu, or someone with zero martial arts training of any kind.

    Extraordinary scene from Marco Polo. Jin Sidao , I believe is to be interpreted as the "villain" but in truth, he is , as he stated in a previous interview, actually a patriot - he was the last bastion of keeping the Song Dynasty and its wonderful accomplishments from nothing more than barbarian forces. He is a brilliant character and in interviews that I have watched, a gentleman through and through. Now, Hundred Eyes .... Wow! A Shaolin master of all.

    • @blockmasterscott
      @blockmasterscott 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Edward LeNeuf My favorite scene with Sidao was in the last episode where the little boy gives him a hug, and you could see how touched Sidao was, even though he had earlier had plans to somehow dispose him. I never looked at him as a bad guy, he was no worst than anyone else.

    • @monsieurm6975
      @monsieurm6975 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +blockmasterscott Yes, that was the scene where the Chancellor is mentoring the young and soon to become next Emperor if I recall, correct? Definitely that scene I think had Sidao scrambling through emotions and that is an really great example excellent of the complex nature of emotions and how , as I was getting at, that Sidao is no more or no less of a complex character as any in the series. Absolutely, that was for me, a pretty imposing and a sad part of the story for Sidao. Oh, by the way, did you see the 30 minute Nexflix narrative (it's almost a teaser to bridge over to season 2) providing us with a glimpse into Hundred Eye's background?

      Sidao was one of my favorite characters. Sure he was underhanded in his ways and a bit of a creep, but like you said he was a true patriot and his dying words showed how deep his resolve for the song dynasty was. Although he played the villain, Its hard not to respect the man for his skills and dedication.

    Red Lotus Chief clearly underestimated his opponent skill. Red Lotus Chief, was very passive and even cocky against him. Jia Sidao, had the chance to carefully study his opponent and decide his attack prior to the signature of the document right before ceremony coronation. Red Lotus Chief, wouldn't never taken a chance to stay on 1v1 situation on the same room with Jia Sidao, Red Lotus Chief should've kept 12 of his best fighters next to him at all times just in case.

      Jia is supposed to sign over his position as advisor to the little Emperor, that’s why they are at the table. The Red Lotus chief is supposed to strong arm Jia into signing the paper, but he ain’t having it, hence the fight.
      The monk just happened to be there on coincidence. He’s sent by the Mongol Emperor to assassinate Jia
      It was just a twist of coincidence and fate that the assassination and paper signing just happened to be at the same time.

    I still have a doubt:
    Why did hundred eyes fail to kill Jiao Sidao at this moment?
    Did he knew that he will loose against the cricket style?
    May be that's the reason he was unable to kill him, so then he went back and trained in cricket style to come back and kill him.

      no the problem was it took a lot of money to make and wasn't bringing in money. Even great shows are cancelled because they are a money drain. Shows like Game of Thrones, etc make money from cable subscriptions, but Netflix doesn't draw in the money like HBO does. So HBO can afford to stretch out good shows, Netflix can't. On Netflix, you have to be good AND have a lower budget to survive.
