  • Dale Cox - author of "The Battle of Marianna, Florida" - guides a battlefield tour recorded in 2014 for the 150th anniversary of the 1864 Civil War encounter. Fought on September 27, 1864, the Battle of Marianna was a small but critical engagement fought "urban warfare" style in the streets of the Northwest Florida city of Marianna. Union forces, led by Brig. Gen. Alexander Asboth, rode through tropical storm conditions in the deepest raid into Confederate Florida of the Civil War. After battling Col. Alexander Montgomery's cavalry forces northwest of town during the morning hours, the main attack took place at high noon. The historian offers you a special look at the battlefield as it appears today and points out little known scars from the engagement as he tells remarkable stories from the points of view of the soldiers and officers of each side.

Thank you very much! If you haven't read Mr. Dale's book on the battle, check it out sometime. He grew up hearing about it and unraveling the real story was a real passion for him.

I wired and did some plumbing on this house when Floyd Brewton was remodeling to best of origanal.
I found silver in bloomers in a wall with the Criggler Crest. Gave to Mr Brewton.
Also found few old musket balls under house as it had no under floor access at time on main part. Could still see some roll marks in sand under house from balls.
In attic was letters from Africa trip 1870's I read alot of them and was so cool to read and great penmanship of the time.

There are a lot of bullet holes in the old house. It was in the line of fire and you can still see them all over the front.
