  • In this video, I'm ranking all the clues you can see in a Geoguessr round. I tried to think of everything that I use in a given Geoguessr round, and attempted to give good reasons for why each clue belongs in each category. Shoutouts to @BrectifyandCraig for inspiring this video, enjoy!

    I don’t know if it’s good exactly, but I think it would be interesting:
    Gather like 5 people of various different skill levels, give them the same challenge seed to explore how a player’s thought process evolves with experience/skill.

    Car brands is quite a potent meta IF you are familiar enough with the regional vehicles. France for example is completely dominated by Renault, Citroen and Vauxhall. I’ve used this method a lot in urban Europe no-moving rounds so I think it’s underrated here.

      You can say that about most of these clue types. Unlike bollards or image/car meta, where there's a relatively small amount of information that _can_ be learned and it can all be laud out in a single list, you can keep studying cars for years and still have something new to learn. The same goes for botany and architecture.

  • @christofferdh

    I would personally put flags up to low B, I know they get a hit on the frequency, but where they are frequent, they can also come in quiet clutch, specially on a US/Canada 50/50 split in a suburban location with no road signs with mph, and just generic car plates that does narrow down country in midwest or East Coast locations. So that is why I would put it in lower B tier, lowest perhaps there, but besides that I would say list is pretty spot on.

I still can mix BE and DK ones, or I am yet to learn the generally quite rare bollards of Americas, but in Europe, AU, NZ they are a huge help as long as you also know what countries can have similar ones (like it is easy to mix up TR and AU, esp on a cloudy coverege)

And let’s not talk about all those little islands such a Bermuda, U.S. Virgin Islands and stuff like that. They would be extremely difficult without any kind of Google Car. As a beginner (well I played a lot like a year ago then swapped to watching people much better than me but I picked it up again recently), language is one of the main ones I go for. Especially in countries battle royale, all that eastern europe it can help quite a bit.

  • @objective_psychology

    It's really telling how relative this all is to the players' skill level with each part. For example someone who is really skilled in languages/linguistics, or an expert in some field like botany or architecture, would automatically have a huge advantage over most players in at least one respect.

    I've been procrastinating learning telephone poles forever. I just started to figure out bollards and chevrons because I've been trying to remember what they were and comparing it to the result after the round. About a year ago I started to memorize flags and ngl I'm pretty good to the point of getting 195/195 and some territories and disputed areas so every time I see a flag I get really excited. Also why wasn't website domains in the tier list? I guess it would go with phone codes but its a lot easier to guess because often it looks like the country name

    • @chrisl3193
      @chrisl3193 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Same! Most differences in telephone poles are just so minor and nondescript, only the holey poles stick in my head but everything else blends together.
      Some people's memories are amazing and they can easily remember small differences but I'll stick to the obvious ones for a while longer 😂

Of course they are just a hint, but they are a great way to distinguish Brasil and Ecuador sometimes (though I am sure more experienced players can make do with other clues, and of course Brasil also has equator so it can be baity, but in 50/50 seeing a dish directed north rather than upwards is a huge help)

  • @wangflop

    Flags should be higher. Way higher. They often help in Canada/USA toss ups. Same with Indo/Malay. The flag colors can be seen in urban settings a lot. Think Ukraine or Mexico. Many front yards in Scandinavian countries have flag poles with flags waving. There's flags of states/provinces. Flags are more common than you make it out to be. A Tier in my opinion.
    Ps: you better win tomorrow's tournament, because I have a date with a Japanese girl this Sunday.

    I would put road angle higher up. I have gotten alot of random 5ks on no moving games by just knowing the general area by looking at other clues and then guessing on a road with the right angle and intersection. You're not getting a huge amount more points because of the road angle but securing the 5k is always very satisfying. Also for example in South Africa knowing the correct highway from the road angle is useful.

  • @BryceRogers_
    @BryceRogers_ ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I understand why you put road angle down in D tier, but I also see this as being very high potential, especially for intermediate players. It helps you unlock the ability to rule out regions and start guessing more wisely. It's a touchstone to center all your other clues around. Fundamental, I believe

  • @FrankGevaerts
    @FrankGevaerts ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This really depends on game mode, map, and general play style. I'd say road angle can easily make the difference between getting close and getting 5K. If you're on no panning or zooming as well as no moving it can be tricky to get right of course, and if you mostly try to get the region right (low time limits and the like) you often don't get to that.

    I disageed with flag placement, it's more like B because they aren't so rare and very rarely baity. Also they are super useful in US vs Canada which is a major PITA in general.
    Some minor but sometimes useful items are missing. Trashcans, electric boxes, road curbs, street lamps, major brands and companies (beer meta says hi :D).
    But generally it's a good classification with well placed rankings.

    If there's two things I learned from TH-camr Geoguessrs it's: Cars can travel and never trust a truck 😂

    License Plates D tier. No actually F tier. I hate license plates so much while playing. I remember so many rounds where for example I am in Croatia, I figure it out and then I see the license plates don't have the EU blue section on them and instantly guess something else. Or rounds where I am in Norway, and Norway should have the blue section as well (although not EU), and they are so inconsistent so I just guess Finland because of that. Petition to burn license plates.

    Awesome video!
    As a GeoWizard fan, I do not hate using Google cars, I just think it does not provide any geography knowledge, just like camera generations or car antennas. You can't find those in real life!

      I think C fits fine for flags. The frequency pulls it so much down. Low B could also be fine I would say 😊

    i think camera generation is overrated. its helpfulness is very limited due to there only being four options. generations 3 and 4 are so common that they dont really help you narrow down the country all that often.

    For me, bollards are def c tier. I mean, they are really helpful, but it’s too hard for me to remember, almost impossible.

    • @donjonas6909
      @donjonas6909 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, and they can be really baity and tricky as well. Some bollards just look so similar to each other, and in some huge areas, such as the Americas, you rarely even see them.
