When you repair a device like this for data extraction, do you return the patient drive to the customer? Or just the Data. I assume often times it is not reccomended to use the repaired device.
@@hddrecoveryservices yes of course! I was curious if you return the patient drive to the customer along with this advice, or do you keep it for disposal
Oh my god Man, you gave me some hope, I got SanDisk Extreme 1Tb full of family video and pictures that unexpectedly just stop working, doesn't show up in the system at all. Local company that I requested for a quote for recovery sounded about 900$ not even looking at it. I did some electronics myself in the past, and decided to take a look, opened it up and pulled out NVME, inserted it directly into M2 on MB and got no luck. Couldn't find any specs on chips, so decided to throw it in the drawer for some time (for 6 month). Seems like the time has come, thanks to your video, I got some option to try, will get a donor (WD NVME SN750 has the same components as well as Power Management IC) it costs 40$, hopefully that would be the fix. Don't want to go NAND de-solder and dump route (don't have tools for it)
@hddrecoveryservices So I got all the data from mine, there is a long story to it. But in short words, I just reheated PM IC with hot air, and it started working good enough to get the data
@@geg_ant Thanks for posting this reply. After watching this video it was my conclusion to try the same thing. So glad to hear it could potentially work!
I don't do data recovery but I do work with microchips and I was wondering a good way to learn how to solder surface mounted components? I've always stuck with DIP/through hole because I know I can't solder anything else. I have to imagine there is a better way to learn soldering other components which don't include buying a bunch of ICs and destroying them in the process; some kit or something?
Stencils for chips and different pitches, good paste, hot air station (which you can literally get for like 300$ these days for a good unit that a lot of pros use) curved tweezer, paper towels - is all you need. Practice and practice. There is so much content to learn from my channel included
Do the non-eutectic solders still have problems with thermal cycling? So many devices - MacBook GPUs, xbox 360 rrod, etc - have had consistent problems that usually go away when reballed with SnPb
Would it be possible to bypass the power circuit by soldering leads and injecting the correct voltage to all the places where said voltage should be found around the power management chip?
what will happens if you try to remove the IC without dealing with all the underfill around it ? You can rewove all other small components as well ? Can I remove this underfill with some organic solvents ? acetone,CHCl3 ? DMF ?? DMAC ?
it depends, you need to know the material of the underfill, material of the chassis and the soldermask to find a solvent thats not conflicting. but i suppose with some trial and error this should be possible
Great fix, as always. When was the last time you did an HDD recovery? Seems like forever since you posted a video of one. What do you like better, the old HDD or all the newer SSD recoveries?

Hi! I would like to ask you, does the SN770/SN570 also suffer from this issue? I myself have a revised 2tb version of the SN570 (with the same nand and controller as SN770) and it works very well for me - low temperatures with great performance. Unfortunately i can see that most WD drives use the same PCB design and now i started to worry about potentially loosing my data someday

Please, could you clear up some doubts for me: What is the difference between PC-3000 portable and the PC-3000 UDMA? Both work with HD, SSD, SD card and pendrive? Do they both do the same thing? Thank you very much.
UDMA is a single channel PCIe card. Good for entry level. Portable 3 is top of the link set that can be expanded into NVMe and SAS support. Portable can also work as a standalone imager. Best to reach Acelab sales. They will do a much better job explaining the difference
hello good day I love watching your videos from Bangladesh. Scandix External Portable SSD One TB USB Common Failures. I learned a lot from this video. Below you hav 0:33 e given a data recovery link, but in our less developed country, we don't have the ability to buy recovery software with so much money, especially in my case, what can I do, please tell me.
I just sent one this week to a Data recovery company. But I thought the problem was with the V2 version only, mine is first gen 1to and no firmware update available. My model is SDSSDE61-1T00. Is it the same one in this video?
@@hddrecoveryservices So turns out the controller of my Sandisk is "damaged". The analysis shows the presence of a dynamic XOR protection on the NAND component (which works), but data cannot be read because of the XOR protection, as the controler contains the key to go through the protection of the dynamic XOR (if I understood correctly). Have you had ever encountered a thing like that? And do you think that putting a new controller would resolve the issue? Or put the memory chips to a clean SSD motherboard. I don't live in Canada anymore but I wish I could send you my SSD...
I have a slightly older 550 MB/s 1 TB model SDSSDE60-1T00-G25. Can anyone confirm if this is also affected by excessive failure rates or if that affects only the newer E61 / E81 generation?
No. It will not work for this device. My guess is that since they use their own locking system when security feature for vault is on, data is tied to the controller. I tried NAND swap to a donor before, and it does not work on these
@@hddrecoveryservices What would it cost? Could you give me more information? I sent a message to their page, but have not received a response. Thank you
It's always these unleaded solder that keeps causing issues. Imagine all the Xbox 360, laptop with Nvidia GPUs, and now SanDisk SSDs that are junked due to these unleaded solder breaking. It probably caused more environmental damage than if we kept using leaded solders.

On the board I am guessing? Yeah, I think it's more due to improper scrapers. There is a j blade I would usually use but I didn't find it during the filming. I would add PB type to pads regardless
@@hddrecoveryservices actually both. have to be more gentle to ic, do not drag the tin on its surface. when you reduce the melting point You will be able to work more smoothly with the scrappers. the pads do not make you stuck because of lead free alloy is still solid, then you use 250°c to clean underfill .also can use wick, carries away a lot of underfill, and no need to scrap too much
Nice job. But if I had such power issued I'd probably have powered it from an external supply with the right voltages instead of removing that glued chip.
@@hddrecoveryservices I'm not a data recovery expert, only a sysadmin with the hobby of electronics. You need two different supply voltages (please forgive me if I don't remember what these are: 3 and 1,3 volts if I remember correctly). If this is what you need, and you know where these supply voltages must be applied (because you tested a working device) then with a lab power supply (with 2 outputs) you could simply generate these voltages and apply them to the right points (that are the traces that come from the power chip output and go to all the components that need them). Since the power supply chip is probably disconnected somehow, I won't expect it to create any issue with this power coming in from its output. And if it does, isn't it easier to just remove it instead of replacing it? Well, probably for me it's easier because I'm not as good as you at reworking SMD components.
