Not necessarily. If you’re sold on Sam, trading JJ can make sense. As a top-10 pick from last spring’s draft, he’s going to be a valuable trade asset. The incoming QB draft class is considered weak, so much so that JJ could’ve been the 1st QB taken had he waited til this year. With free agency also bare at the position, either of the Vikings’ QBs could fetch a big return in a trade. However, JJ’s rookie contract makes him more valuable. With there being as many as 7 teams potentially hunting for a QB, the Vikings could recoup their 1st rd pick if the right team comes calling.
@@cbrooksII are you gonna be sold on Sam if were one and done in the playoffs?Even if we win one game, that's not an auto for me. Stop. JJ won’t turn into mahomes. Trading him signifies that you’re dedicating to winning right now. Vikings are legit contenders with Darnold. Darnold hasn’t even hit his prime yet and he won them 14 games.
totally see this happening. imagine getting a 1st or 2nd for Darnold maybe not next year if we keep him but maybe the year after. possible 1st, 2nd or 3rd rounder for Daniel Jones eventually.
Oh boy. Qb controversy. The problem is money. Sam can get a bag and JJ is on a cheap rookie contract. Sam probably is gone. Vikings going to give Sam 55?
The Vikes can afford to tag Darnold, which is estimated to cost them a bit more than $40 million for the year, The Vikes have plenty of cap space in 2025 to pay Darnold, keep McCarthy, and re-sign more of their free agents. Also, if Harrison Smith retires, that will add even more cap space. Finally, realistically, Gilmore & Griffen won't be re-signed, which would free up even more money.
Any member of the national sports media who talks about JJ McCarthy being traded is just looking for clicks & attention. IMHO, McCarthy ain't going anywhere! lol And, I just can't see the Vikes letting Darnold walk. He'll either sign a deal, or the Vikes will tag him. There is no reason for the Vikes to do otherwise, and Kwesi A-M is an extremely rational, intelligent man. IMHO, all the talk-radio/podcasters are just blowing hot air & getting fans on of a lot of teams excited for no reason. Finally, FWIW, I am LOVING this situation...the Vikes are the envy of 80% of the league when it comes to their quarterback situation! hahahahahaha!

If homie gets greedy show him the door. Paying 200M cash straps the rest of the roster and then you win 6 games and waste his prime
I don't think we should be so quick to dismiss trading JJ. Look, GMs are always foolish and desperate. Didn't the 49ers trade three first round pics for Trey Lance?? Didn't some idiot pay 180 million for Kirk cousins? 60 million for Dak Prescott? 275 million for Trevor Lawrence? Didn't the Cleveland browns trade all those picks and paid ridiculous amounts for DeShaun Watson? Never dismiss the stupidity and desperation of GMs!! 😂🤣
Trading McCarthy makes zero sense. Let’s say they Franchise Tag Darnold (Which they Should), McCarthy is a guy they really liked and he is still on a Rookie deal.
