What further upsets me is that they say "as much as 10,000". That is WAY under what the real number is. I lived in China for an entire summer and met with people in villages and cities across China. Every single one knew about someone who died at Tiananmen Square. One woman had her entire family killed. EVERY SINGLE one. All her cousins, uncles, aunts, friends, siblings, and parents died. She was all that is left if her entire family. The reason she survived was because she was late to the protest that day. She lives in Hong Kong now and makes a point of spitting at soldiers every time she's on the mainland. China massively covered up the slaughter. I'll never forget the people I met during that time. Makes me very thankful for the freedoms I do have.

interesting video. I had not heard of August Landmesser. One of my favorite "defiance" stories tells that after Denmark was invaded in WWII, the Nazis told the Danish government that they had to supply a list of all the Jews in Denmark. The next day (if I remember correctly), the entire population of Copenhagen (including the King of Denmark) rode bicycles through the streets while wearing star of David armbands, on the assumption that the Nazis couldn't very well arrest the entire population. Additionally, throughout the war, Danish fishermen would smuggle Jews from occupied Denmark to neutral Sweden.

Vinno 34 oh piss off, nobody “took” their oil. The arab monarchy takes the oil from their people. They are well compensated for the oil that EVERY nation purchases. Or do you not see the sickening wealth the saudi/iranian/venezuelean and other oil countries display? For god sakes, the Saudi royal family bought the 450million dollar da vinci...
So, explain to me how we stole their oil? Where is all this free oil at? The middle east could be a flourishing nation if they let go of their archaic religious beliefs and deployed a democracy where people could flourish. Instead they wage jihad against the west because they do not want to stop the hating and the raping and the murdering. We should have dealt with them at the same time as korea, ten nukes...then we could have actually taken their oil. You act as though the middle east was not the most imperialistic and violent society for centuries, taking over countries, enslaving millions. Do people really not read history? Do they think countries just formed because one guy drew some maps? Read a book you leper rapist

Oops! I kinda compulsively followed that "rule" in one of my own videos! But it was because I could only think of four really good examples. There are plenty of examples of courageous defiance. A great video poster, Steve Shives, does "5 things" videos, but always ends them with, "The problem is coming up with only five."

25:57, This is the exact kind of scenario the 2nd Amendment here in the US is designed to prevent, and why it's imperative that civilians must be able to match the firepower of their government.
Communism/socialism is gaining way too much ground here in the US, and a scenario like this could easily be in America's future if anti-gun groups get their way.
Also, the Declaration of Independence, or the Boston Tea Party, should have been on this list. Every signer of the Declaration of Independence was wanted for treason by King George III, the most powerful man in the world at the time. John Hancock was ESPECIALLY defiant, as he knew the king had poor eyesight, and he intentionally signed his name so large that when asked about it, he said he wanted to make sure the king could read his name without having to put on his glasses. That is a serious act of defiance. You're already signing your death warrant, but you take it another step further by making sure your name is so big that the king will understand you are mocking his poor eyesight, insinuating he's just as flawed as and equal to any peasant under his rule. Dude must've walked bow-legged with balls that big.

    • @Syclone0044
      @Syclone0044 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Goattacular wow! That is truly admirable. Major respect. I’ve personally seen John Hancock’s large signature too, on the Declaration of Independence and/or US Constitution when I visited the National Archives in Washington DC.
Blew my fucking mind!!!! I had no idea we STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS!! They’re preserved in argon gas-filled display cases in quite a dim room, no flash photography allowed, and guarded by some serious looking guards.
I stood there much longer than anyone else, utterly stunned that I was within 18” of the ACTUAL documents that created this country in one of mankind’s greatest and most successful acts of defiance.
There were quite a few other visitors when I was there, including my family. But I feel like I was the only one in the room able to truly appreciate the significance of what these documents meant. These men signed their own death warrants in the eyes of the British who greatly outnumbered them. Somehow, their passion and dedication to Liberty and Freedom helped them defeat the British and allow the United States of America to exist as this new country which still exists today 250 yrs later, as now the world’s most powerful, most economically successful, and most admired nation on the planet. Truly unbelievable.
As a kid reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and being forced to study and memorize so many parts of US History, none of that meant anything to me. It wasn’t until I was 18-20 that o began to understand and it dawned on me “holy fuck.. that was one of the most defiant, most brave, most badass moves in all of mankind’s history! Incredible respect to these men!”

Boudica definitely deserves a mention. Long story short, she was the queen of the Iceni Celts in 60 AD, and when her husband the king died, the Roman Empire invaded and annexed her kingdom. Boudica was flogged publicly, stripped of her title as queen, and her daughters (the rightful heirs to their father’s throne) were gangr+ped by Roman soldiers.
Infuriated, Boudica united the Celtic tribes in a hostile revolt against the Romans, attacking and destroying the Roman-controlled cities of Camulodunum (Colchester), Londinium (London), and Verulamium. Her army drove back the Romans using scorched earth tactics, leaving nothing left for them to reclaim, and took the lives of tens of thousands of Roman soldiers. (~80,000 died on both sides)
Despite greatly outnumbering her opponent, she was finally defeated and killed when her army faced down that of Suetonius in the British Midlands, largely as a result of Suetonius holding an easily defended position which could not be flanked due to the terrain. Despite failing to drive the Romans out of Britain entirely, her ferocious and merciless attacks on Roman forces did cause Emperor Nero to initially plan a retreat by withdrawing Roman forces from the British Isles.
    She was quoted as saying:
"'But now,' she said, 'it is not as a woman descended from noble ancestry, but as one of the people that I am avenging lost freedom, my scourged body, the outraged chastity of my daughters. Roman lust has gone so far that not our very persons, nor even age or virginity, are left unpolluted. But heaven is on the side of a righteous vengeance; a legion which dared to fight has perished; the rest are hiding themselves in their camp, or are thinking anxiously of flight. They will not sustain even the din and the shout of so many thousands, much less our charge and our blows. If you weigh well the strength of the armies, and the causes of the war, you will see that in this battle you must conquer or die. *This is a woman's resolve; as for men, they may live and be slaves.* “

There was a POW camp at Naoetsu, in Niigata Prefecture, in Western Japan, where six hundred men were made to labour as slaves in a chemical factory and Steel Mill. A film called "Unbroken" about an American Airman called Zamperini, doesn't really convey the gruelling hardship endured bu the men. It just doesnt reflect what happened. My father was one of a few officers in the Camp, designated as (the) "Bunny" for his role in distracting the guards to a different part of the camp, when a secret diary had to be updated by the CO and Doctor. On Australia Day 1944, a Guard called a parade, and made a speech about how the Australian prisoners were....inferior to the Japanese. He ordered my father to lick his boots, which would have been filthy with all kinds of stuff. My father declined the invitation, apparently with politeness, so the Guard picked up a Pick Handle, and smashed his face in. I think it must have been difficult for the Doctor to help him survive. Eight of the guards from that one camp were hanged, after the War, and that was quite extraordinary, compared with the Nazi's at Nuremburg. The story of that camp was suppressed, until recent years.

I live in Kyiv. The Cossacks are still around. They have huts that look Mongolian and call them yurts, same as Mongolians. The still saddle their horses like the Mongolians, too. During EuroMaidan, it was the Cossacks that stormed the occupied government buildings and killed the Russian snipers on the rooftops. I know this because I interviewed one of the leaders 3 days later. I was photographing propaganda on poles and walls to refute those who claimed Nazis were fighting there (there were none.) He saw me and asked me if I was a Russian spy. A long conversation followed. He looked exactly like the men shown here: long white mustache and beard. Cossacks are no joke.
