- The Blue Angels/Thunderbirds 'America Strong' flyover to honor coronavirus health care workers and first responders takes place over Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware Tuesday afternoon.
Makes me feel proud to be an American. God Bless these pilots.

My wife is an rn. I'm trying to get her to understand how significant this is. She says she is too busy worrying about other things to pay attention to the fly over. She might be humble.

vinyltapelover Oh because usually teal and blue colors are associated with healthcare workers. For example the gowns, scrubs, masks etc they wear are usually teal or some version of blue/green. Cheers :)

Can anyone explain the formation? what is the single role of the single aircraft flying out of the formation?? Filming, escorting? is it armed? Always very impressive to see in person.
Giovanie - It is the #7 Thunderbird, whose role in this modified air show schedule is to videotape the flyovers to be used later in promotion/recruitment videos. They are rotating between the #7 Thunderbird F-16 "Fighting Falcon" and either the #7 or #8 Blue Angels F/A-18 "Hornet", doing the video capturing in the 12 joint "First Responders Salute Flyovers"... Today, a Blue Angels' F/A-18 will probably be doing the "chase plane" (filming plane) duty today over Washington D.C. and Baltimore. BTW - All of these planes are "temporarily unarmed", but can be readied for combat by removing the "display smoke generators" lodged where the 20mm Vulcan rotating cannon pod is, and re-installing said 20mm cannon assembly, and the wingtip missile "launch rails" are intact and just need to be "wired back up", all in less than 3 hours during an "unlikely" emergency... #NavyStrong and #AirForceStrong

Do you really need to be the best of the best, or have some experience ( having done missions etc?) I get exited just by hearing those jet engines...to imagine the amount of power they generate, and that there is one guy, finnaly a pilot, that had to go through I can't imagine what kind of training. I believe lots of people don't appreciate this. Thanks again for your reply.

There is quite a bit of info out there about requirements and needed experience to be a Blues pilot. If I may offer as one source is a Navy wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Angels), or finding the official Navy site for Blue Angeles. There are a number of Blue Angels you tube videos, including "Blue Angels A Year in the Life" where the requirements are discussed and how, the pilots as a unit, accept a new applicant or not. The mechanics also have to be the best of the best. I hope this helps you to get started and you may find other unasked questions in the process. When this stuff first hit, months back, I texted a unit member, a fellow retired g.i. that when the covid19 hit, it was not too long after Pres Trump had signed the trade deal...particularly since they were supposed to start buying[more] our goods.

@@vinyltapelover the Chinese actually requested that a clause be put in the agreement that if an emergency event occurred , (and they mentioned pandemic specifically) that they would not be obligated to the terms😂 that's just Dirty! But remember what was happening at the time???? The HONG KONG protests...... what better way.....to make people go home🤔 I think they were worried that because the tariffs were causing so much unemployment, that the protests would spread all over China, Xi was being humiliated, so he pulled the pin and tossed it.😐
