@@AnnaKaunitz The Celtic one is samhain ( sow-een). Guisng, dooking, treacle scones and neep lanterns but also fire walks happens on that night. Halloween on the other hand means All hallows eve, Alla Helgona afton and that was celebrated in Sweden on 31 of October until 1953, then we changed so it will always fall on Saturday and then Sunday will be Alla helgona dag. All in the name of making easier for the church. And in Sweden we had our trick or treating at Easter. The American Halloween was introduce to Sweden in the 90:ties to try to sell more stuff, it was all about money.
@@JustaBritAbroad I recommend you got on Alla helgona this year it is on 6 nov to a graveyard, it stunning at night. Just be calm and quiet and respectful.
@@hannayoung9657 Yes I know, that was what I maybe failed to explain but in Sweden, the Friday is however always Alla helgons afton, the Saturday is always Allahelgons dag and the Sunday is always Alla själars dag in Sweden. The Saturday is always a public holiday in Sweden.
The "djungelvrål" actually used to be even more salty (in the 80-ies), but they had to make them a bit less strong because of some rule or something. I used to love back then.
The highest amount of salmiak allowed in licorice is 7%. A few years ago the UN wanted to decrease the amount from 7% to 3%. Luckily Finland was against it.
haha we tried so many more, but I didn't think people would have the patience or energy to sit through 3 hours of footage😅 thanks for watching though, hope you enjoyed!
Since moving to the US I kinda stopped eating candy cus it's really not that good here.Swedish fish is ok,made in Canada tho lol.And it's something weird about the chocolate, like Hersey,it has an odd taste that's hard to explain.
It is called "vomit flavour" becauce they add something that taste really different and weird comparied to other brands. And CAN be found in vomit. Heard it was a WW2 thing, they wanted to sell chocolate but the chocolate was expensive so it was blended or mixed out with this vomit flavour thing. The american soldiers got used to eat them during the war. So when the war ended and they got back home they continued to eat it. Hersey tried to change it back to more normal chocolate flavour and less vomit, but people didn't want it so they stayed with the bad tasting one. I guess it is a matter of what you grew up with and what you are used to. I love chocolate, but I too can never eat a Hersey chocolate becauce of the flavour. Sorry for the bad grammar and spelling. English is not my first language.
I am surprised did not try any Marabou Swedish chocolate, or the taxi cabs. Since I am of Finnish origin.. I am partial to Fazer candies and all things licorice made in Finland. If your American friend tried Turkish Pepper, Panterri, or any other type of licorice treats he would pass out. Sweden has tasty candies too..but only the slight surface was touched..yes the chocolate is the famous Belgian chocolates with truffles.
Erick had already tried marabou before Pablo, so I thought I'd steer clear and focus on candies that he hadn't sampled😅 interesting to hear about Finnish candies though, I've not tried them before, so perhaps I'll have to add them to the list!
The only candy I really enjoy is Ahlgrens Bilar and polkagrisar. But I rarely eat candy. My dentist warned me. lol! You should have gone for the pink mushroom candy instead. IMO they taste better. But, we're all different right. :) Djungelvrål - I loved it before but not anymore. So funny to see you both trying candy! Thanks for a very amusing video! Cheers! 😁

Definitely keep that salty liquorice away from me! I love that lördagsgodis is so embedded into Swedish culture, though. My sambo even has her favourite sweet shops because they have the 'freshest candy.'
In a earlier vlog you said that swedes are putting a layer with ketchup in a lasagna. That's not true, we do layers with pasta plates, meat sauce (bolognese) and cheese sauce (beshamel sauce with ceese). We top the lasagna with cheese and put in the stove!!!!!
When I was a child, in the 70s, most kids weren't allowed to eat sweets on any day except Saturday. So of course I was always looking forward to my saturday sweets. Also, I note that many commenters recommend Tyrkisk Peber. You don't eat Tyrkisk Peber, you mix it with vodka and let it dissolve overnight. About one bag per 35 cl bottle. Yummy!
I can completely understand that Rasmus - we do Saturday sweets in my house too and I'm always lookiing forward to it! interesting to hear about your vodka-combo for tyrkisk peber though, I'll have to look into that haha
Strange that you didn’t try any super sour candy, so many are addicted to that, including my daughter. I personally prefer chocolate of most kind, sweet licorice (try Käck or Fazer sweat licorice), Polly and some foreign stuff like Toblerone, Toffife and After Eight.
I really like sour candy actually - and we did try some when we filmed, its just none of the reactions were that crazy so I decided to leave the footage out of the video😅 but I can agree with you about chocolate... mmm!! And toblerone is👌🤩

I love more sour candy, chocolate, sockerbitar, geléråttor/hjärtan, punchpraliner, skumbananer och nötcreme. 🤗
Oh no, candy shouldn't be soft, sweet and melting away - it should be hard or chewy and salt or sour. Licorice is defiantly the best! There's a lot versions you should try: "Häxvrål", "Harpluttar", "Turkisk peppar", "Pingvin saltpistiller" and "Salmiakbalk" for example. But most of all, I would love to see you try "Svenskjävlar". They were salty even to me, even though I have loved salt licorice more or less since I wore diapers 🙈😂

I love English winegum brand Basett and Swedish choklad Marabo or Bilar, gott och blandat.
Happy Halloween 🦇
mmmm gott och blandat is so good😱 and the salty version especially🤩
Cola Kastanjer are totally the best lösgodis you can find. Hard shell, a bit chewy and the taste is a lovely combination of sweet and sour.
mmmm so good!!
The editing 🔥
I'm a Swed and I would have had an even stronger reaction of dislike by the djungelvrål or fish. Don't like licorice at all. 😂🙈🤢
@@lindaallgen7651 I’m not alone 🙏🏼
No you aren't and the Belgian seafruits (Belgiska sjöfrukter) are really tasty 😋 You should try the Violet Guns (Viol pistol) they are good 😁
the co-star🤌🏻😆 the things I put you through for the content, big props😅
oh really? anything we should have tried instead?
I did'nt know what halloween was until the 1990's here in sweden.
It's a quite new thing for sweden. I grew up during the 60's and 70's...
interesting Gunnar! you weren't missing out on much though, right... apart from the candy of course😅 but for that you had lördagsgodis!
Jungelvrål is one of my favorit candy, I eat them 10 at i time ;-)
But my all time favorit candy is not swedish, but from Finland; Terva Leijona that have a tast of tar, and after that is the candy that looks like 2 cherry´s :-)
mmmm yum! I've not tried that Finnish candy you spoke of yet, might have to add it to my list!
Halloween wasnt dress up in Sweden until late 90:ties and we used to not drink to this holiday, all we did was put candle on the graves and that was it.
really? interesting to learn the history!
@@hannayoung9657 Yes I know, that was what I maybe failed to explain but in Sweden, the Friday is however always Alla helgons afton,
the Saturday is always Allahelgons dag and the Sunday is always Alla själars dag in Sweden.
The Saturday is always a public holiday in Sweden.
The "djungelvrål" actually used to be even more salty (in the 80-ies), but they had to make them a bit less strong because of some rule or something. I used to love back then.
it did?!😱 oh my god, that would have been like a month of salt in a candy haha
The highest amount of salmiak allowed in licorice is 7%. A few years ago the UN wanted to decrease the amount from 7% to 3%. Luckily Finland was against it.
Har du testat "Svenskjävlar"? Där snackar vi SALT lakrits 😂
Dem är det drag i.
2 half full buckets... with mixed candy... and u tried 5 or 6? :)
good joob.. looking forward to the next vid :)
haha we tried so many more, but I didn't think people would have the patience or energy to sit through 3 hours of footage😅 thanks for watching though, hope you enjoyed!
Salty liquorice is a bit of an acquired taste. Personally I'm a sucker for the the hard type called "JätteSalt"
English is not my first language.
really? how interesting Anders! I've not really eaten a lot of American candy, so I didn't really know there was this reputation actually!
Cheers! 😁
haha I can understand why you stopped! its so easy to get caught eating loads of candy here haha there's so many choices!! what made you change your mind about djungelvrål, or was that also related to the advice from your dentist? glad to hear you enjoyed the video though, thanks for watching!
@@JustaBritAbroad I'm not sure why I don't like Djungelvrål anymore. Suddenly, I just realised that I'm not a huge fan of that candy😄😄😄 My husband buys them every now and then. I take one candy and it's okay. He's a licorice eater and I'm definitely not. 🙂
Hemmakväll in Linköping. My Hometown 👍🏻. I actually think I saw you once for about 2 months ago!
jajamen!🤗 wait, you think you saw me in town or in Hemmakväll? if it was HK that says everything haha
@@JustaBritAbroad Think I saw you at Mcdonals in august!
Thats Linköping ! Thought you were in Stockholm!
I agree that hemakväll was great but the one in my city changed owner many times before finally closing.
Definitely keep that salty liquorice away from me! I love that lördagsgodis is so embedded into Swedish culture, though. My sambo even has her favourite sweet shops because they have the 'freshest candy.'
oh really? you've not broken into the liquorice market yet then?😅 there's time I guess!!
When it comes to liquorice I usually really dislike it I have ever since I was little but there are 2 liquorice candies I like and that is the raspberry liquorice skulls and djungelvrål, to me they don't taste as much liquorice as other candies. I don't meet that many people that like liquorice most people I have met who are my age are not that fond of it.
I couldn't care less about Halloween. To me, it's just another commercial "holiday" created to make us spend money.
I do love my Hemmakväll candy though! 😍
Hemmakväll candy is soo good right Sara?😅 hope that means you'll be entering my competition for your chance to win some candy!

I won't, I don't use Instagram anymore, so... 😜
You gave Djungelvrål an 8? Welcome to Sweden, you're done assimilating 😂
Edit: Nevermind, you think they're sour 😅 it's salty!
hahaha I used the wrong word okay🙈 sorry Eter, I knew whaat i meant haha
Djungelvrål king of candy.... One should have a handful at the same time. 😀 Have you tried "VIOL" it's sold in a tablettask. Oh and ofc Daim, buy dip it in hot chocolate.
a handful?!😱😆 wow, you're braver than me Zirie haha but yes, I have tried Viol, really good!!
I also love Viol :-)
@@JustaBritAbroad I was born thi...eh... with that candy...I reckon that might make a differance. 😛
Djungelvrål is so good. A glass with Coke to it and your night is perfect
This was a fun video! You should do one strictly "sour" candy version.
I remember when I lived there, they had these individual wrapped super sour candies that were addictive! There is no real sour candy in North America :(
ooh love it! what a great idea, he says sat here digging into some sour candy😅 I didn't know it wasn't so common in North America though... interesting!!
We have the winning chocolate here in Australia, but they're often in a fancy box, good as a present!
oh you do?! fun🤩 what's your favourite candy Xavier, or is sweet treats not really your thing?
@@JustaBritAbroad oh jag *älskar* godisar 🍬 I really enjoy licorice, (I think I'll fit in over there) but I think classic gummy bears are my favourite. Does fudge count?
Im not sure I got any favorite candy but some I rate high are toblerone, mentos (fruit) and polly (zoo)
and I have to agree your choice is the best candy of the ones in your video
mmm toblerone is sooo good!! fun to hear you agreed out of the ones we tried thoough!
Djungelvrål is 11/10. :D
I look forward to Swedish candy, Per doesn't send me any unfortunately because of the cost of international shipping. However, he does not like licorice, so I already know that will be all mine lol. Nice Halloween opener, too bad it's not your vibe. Chocolate is Per's big favorite for candy. Thanks for a fun candy video.
I wonder if you have any swedish candy shops in the US Herk🤔 I'm only asking, since I know that we do in London, so perhaps there's something similar in the States somewhere! Sounds great that he's a bigger chocolate lover and you like the licorice, makes it all easier to divide up haha. thanks for checking it out!
@@JustaBritAbroad I never thought of that, I'll have to check that out. Thanks.
In a earlier vlog you said that swedes are putting a layer with ketchup in a lasagna. That's not true, we do layers with pasta plates, meat sauce (bolognese) and cheese sauce (beshamel sauce with ceese). We top the lasagna with cheese and put in the stove!!!!!
sounds like the best way to do it to me Håkan!
This was fun...next Times try some chokladkakor Mjölkchoklad and stuff like that 🙂
good idea Roger!! we should have included some chokladbitar!
Strange that you didn’t try any super sour candy, so many are addicted to that, including my daughter. I personally prefer chocolate of most kind, sweet licorice (try Käck or Fazer sweat licorice), Polly and some foreign stuff like Toblerone, Toffife and After Eight.
I really like sour candy actually - and we did try some when we filmed, its just none of the reactions were that crazy so I decided to leave the footage out of the video😅 but I can agree with you about chocolate... mmm!! And toblerone is👌🤩
The only proper way to eat Djungelvrål is to take a handful of it! 😋😍 (not kidding!) It’s soooo good!
haha really?! I'm not hardcore enough yet for that clearly😅
Cloetta Center, Marabou dubbelnougat
Centers are oh so good😱
Halloween is not my thing either, so that one pumpkin is just the right amount of decoration. The best Swedish candy? It's a hard choice, but I think I would put my vote on Lakrisal.
haha nice to know we're in agreement😅 interesting to hear that you chose lakrisal though, its not something I've really gotten into much!
Mate, next time you're up north, swing by Candyworld in Sundsvall, they have a ridiculous amount of different kinds, I might've smuggled about 8kg with me on my return flight to Manchester this summer.
oh they do?! sounds like my kind of place Andreas!!
To me that Belgian seashell chocolate is known as "mom's candy" because my mom always bought those.
Aww that’s fun! It’s great to have sweets that remind you of a particular childhood memory🤗
halloween isn't a big holliday here...

If you haven't tried the worst, you need to try Turkisk Peppar... 😆😆😆
And... if someone had a mixed bag they gave me, I still think everything tastes salty or... 🤢 So you rated them high!
I love more sour candy, chocolate, sockerbitar, geléråttor/hjärtan, punchpraliner, skumbananer och nötcreme. 🤗
oooh nötcreme, sour candy, geléråttor and sockerbitar sound great right now! I'll have to try turkisk peppar though, haven't done that yet!
@@JustaBritAbroad wish you luck with the Turkisk Peppar. 🤗🙃
Many tried that in TH-cam videos and often with same result.
As a Swede, I detest licorice. I think it is nasty. Give me fruit flavours any day. As for the best candy, that's obviously Marabou milk chocolate.
mmmm Marabou!!

Dude, best Swedish candy is the cheaper version of Belgian chocolate? I'm judging so much!
Also, if you're gonna feed someone Swedish Fish (Malaco fish), go for the pastel ones! We call them "pastellfiskar"... nom nom.
Personally I can't stand licorice, my fav candies are the sour ones. So, like, the sour cola pacifiers and stuff like that :D
haha I totally blame Erick for this one Andrea😅 the shells are nice, sure, but they aren't my personal favourite candy. it was a bit of a compromise vote😅
well, might be too late already.... but rip me, no Instagram ;(
Djungelvrål is really nice. I think it is one of the best that could be bought like that. Bormally if you want good candy, don’t buy it in those stores.
