Correspondence chess is chess played by various forms of long-distance correspondence, usually through a correspondence chess server, through email or by the postal system; less common methods which have been employed include fax and homing pigeon. It is in contrast to over-the-board (OTB) chess, where the players sit at a chessboard at the same time (or perhaps play at the same time remotely).
People send me the games daily. It doesn't mean that I will make a video of every game, but that is how I get ideas for a new video. I also do analysis of my private students games.
I play with random people on my phone, with an app called "chess with friends." The time limit is about 4 days per move, and you can play multiple games at once, so I consider it to be correspondence chess.
Thanks mato for being my coach by sharing these amazing videos and the most beautiful analysed only by watching your videos today I have beat the 2000 elo rated player it's just like a dream that becomes true thank you again
Mato, your awesome. your community loves you. would love to see a game or two where the french works out. I main it, and its said to see it get wreckd so bad (of course this game is only technically french, neh?
Indeed - doesn't pay to get behind in development too much. Also, what we learned, was that the fact that a correspondence player may have much more time to analyze a position than in live-play, that doesn't automatically mean that they WILL spend serious time analyzing a position. :)
dear mato can you recommend any kind of opening for black which he can get a good position (I have hard time with opening for black ) , and thank you very much for all the videos
How does this Alapin Gambit against French compare with the Steiner Orthoschnapp Gambit against the French? which Gambit has a higher success rate, and why?
if queen captures knight then Ne4......it would be then 2 knights ....2 bishops...and a rook along with queen against black's queen , dark bishop and either one of the knight or light bishop....the attack is massive....and black's other 2 rooks and one of the minor pieces would just see their king getting mated....and do nothing
If black does Qxf6 then white does Ne4 and black is a complete mess to an even larger degree. Black queen would be forced to retreat and now black is even further behind in development and tempo after say white Bc4, which prevents black from castling and then Bg5, or white queen Qh5 and then Qe5 attacking the black pawn on e5. White's rook will also be activated very soon by coming to e1. No way black wins from that undeveloped position with an uncastled king sitting in the middle of the board wide open for attack. The white knight on e4 also becomes a huge problem for black as well as it will be looking next to come to d6 with bishop support along with the other knight coming to e6.
First of all - Mato im a huge fan! I dont understand somthing about this game's critical position.. If white would play Rf6+, can't it be countered easily by black's Qf6+? Don't you think black would be better? My suggestion is Re4 instead, and after black's Ke4+ capturing Rook, than comes the Qh1 and white will win a pawn and the Rook on h8.. do you agree?

Thank you for your comment
Watch Korchnoi's game in French Defense Playlist
Agreed, also, I love the way Mato says, "KNIGHT". It's so forceful and you know the other player is in trouble.
very interesting video. nice to see a correspondence game being analysed.
I like Mato's videos. Trey are fun to watch. Thanks, Mato! :)
Greetings from Lithuania

Concise commentary as always Mato.

10 years late but just wanted to say I found Bb6. Great video!
great video mato. yes development is sooo important.
Great game, Mato! The beginning reminds of the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit.
Yes. But way, way less common. meaning its better. maybe.
dear mato can you recommend any kind of opening for black which he can get a good position (I have hard time with opening for black ) , and thank you very much for all the videos
I learned to develop *THEN* attack here. At one point white had 5 pieces developed to black's lone knight.
That means they were sending letters with moves, games could last several weeks back then.
Feel free to send me the games
Mato how you find these games?
We learn from this game that, never take whatever oppinent offer, be your self run your best plan
I enjoyed your video. want to play sometime on lichess? What's your name there?

In critical position, after rook takes knight, why not capture knight with queen instead of pawn?
Mato's got great style!

nice video!
what means correspondance game?
great attack
interesting game, Keres played with Great style! :)
Why not Re4+ instead Kh1?
Bf7 checkmate at 4:40?
+deathnightpwnage123 nope, if bishop to f7, then king can move to d7,
if queen to f7, then king can move to d8
Hi Mato, what would have happened if 11.NxR, and then black recaptured the rook with his Queen?
I played a French defense yesterday, against this gambit, and won. But neither I nor my opponent are grandmasters! LOL
2:54 you are mistaken! Rook cannot Rxf7 cause blacks Qxf6 instead of gxf6.
