I love the fights in the rebuilds that really showcase the fucking INHUMAN level of manpower and resources NERV is having to put in to make this all possible. It's easy to miss it, since to Shinji, EVA-01 is always just sort of "ready to go" by the time he gets to NERV HQ, and always "just works"- when in reality, he's piloting what is basically the culmination of trillions of man-hours of maintenance, and nearly all the electrical power in ALL of Japan. When EVAs fight, it's not just the pilot going into battle, but also the thousands upon thousands of electrical technicians, engineers, mechanics, you name it, that are _actively_ working to keep them in the fight during each battle. Really cool to think about while you watch these fight scenes IMO.

That's Sahaquiel though, not Leliel. The Rebuild Sahaquiel battle IMO is the high-point of the franchise. Fantastic running sequence, amazing BGM, interesting angel mechanics and actual teamwork on display. Nice.

Actually it's none of them. The Rebuild angels are never given names in the films or in the production materials. They are just "The 4th Angel, The 6th Angel" and so on.
The sprinting world record is 44.72km/h, done by Usain Bolt 1.95m tall => 195*0.415 => 80.9cm stride lenght Eva 01 is 80m tall, about 70 if we dont count the shoulderplates. 7000*0.415 => 2905 cm stride lenght. 2905/80.9 =35.9 => eva 01 has 36x the stride lenght If we assume the same amount of time taken for a step between human and eva: 44.72km/h*36=1609.9 km/h. Speed of sound in km/h: 1234.8 km/h We can therefor conclude that if he was legging it like Usain Bolt, he would've made mach 1.3, lending credibility to the sonic waves.
@@WardenOfTerra that's not how sonic booms work. anything moving over mach 1 is producing essentially a permanent sonic boom. we see the mach cone form when he breaks the sound barrier, everything after that is the continuous shockwave you would expect from a supersonic object. you don't get more shockwaves by hitting higher mach numbers. he's probably not moving much faster than mach 1 here.
It's really amazing how they managed to change a simple fight from the original to this epic as hell and climactic battle in the Rebuilds. Everything about this scene is just so damn good.I absolutely love it

I think one of my favorite parts of this besides the sheer epicness of the entire scene of running towards the Angel and Shinji holding the Angel despite being in pain, the awesome music, Is that this is one of the first scenes you see Asaka genuinely look concerned or care about Shinji. Her face when she yells "I'm almost there!" Is full of worry for her comrade and friend.
Sorry, I don't mean to lower your perception of this scene, but in my opinion Asuka wasn't really concerned about Shinji when she yelled at that point. You must remember that she still had a high regard for her own abilities and looked down on the other two, so when she yelled that she was almost there, it's more about her stating that she's the only one that can really take it down. She wasn't thinking that either Shinji or Rei could kill the angel, so the best they could do was just hold out while she got there. Of course immediately after this battle, she begins to recognize that she can't do everything alone and both Shinji and Rei are valuable teammates. It's part of Asuka's character growth. But I agree with the epicness of this scene. It's one of my favorites and is one of the many reasons why the 2nd Rebuild movie is my favorite Evangelion anime.
The cities lining GeoFront have autodrain facilities and scrubbers to get rid of angel blood. You see some of the pumps when the buildings lift up or decend sometimes.
In NGE it is said by SEELE guys that the cost of repairing the damage after an angel battle is absolutely massive. So much so that it sucks up the budget of multiple nations to maintain regularly..... or at least I assume that's what the constant references to the U.N. and NERV funding were about.
The thing here is exactly that. 01 runs so fast that there is no room for arm movement, he simply CAN'T move his arms because he is too fast to actually manage the strength.

@@Immashift have you tried doing a squat compared to a pull up? Leg strength is an entirely different level compared to arm strength. And even then he isn't choosing to run like that. He just doesn't waste energy on his arms when everything needs to go into his legs. So his arms are just being dragged behind him due to the speed. Yes he could move them but no he isn't choosing to point them that way. Naruto running is a deliberate use of muscles to run like that. This is just the natural way for an object to swing when moving faster than the sound barrier. Like dragging a flag behind you. If that makes sense?

I love this Angels design, especially those apendages on its back, which looks like people waving and chanting... Really wish the fight had been longer. Also at the end, when all those apendages withdraw, just before it explodes in a sea of blood... I was so sure, it was about to reveal a second core.

But the original Sahaquiel was the orange peel of doom, barely did anything other than just falling and letting itself get killed and the whole feel of the "fight" was underwhelming. Here, even if everything happens just the same, the angel's design is infinitely better, the battle is more epic and they show Sahaquiel doing something after Shinji stops it. Its death is also better. So yeah, it's the fight that's improved the most between the original and the rebuild.

I remember one night (like 10pm or so) just sapping through TV and seeing the scene where Shinji started the AT field on full power to stop sahaquiel, i thought that the Anime movie was on it's last few minutes due to how epic it was (Like when they make the final battles the most intense ones) and so i decided to watch the rest not knowing that it wasn't even half of the movie. That was the first time i ever got in contact with anything relating to Evangelion and i was confused, terified and amazed at the same time. I watched the first and second movies in the next weekend. (and watched the other 2 rebuild movies after they came out.)
God is so merciful, that he sent the angels down with a physical core for us to target as a goal of our success in order to give humans a fighting chance to reconsider their actions and to figure out why they were doing what they were doing (aka obtaining Adam). When you think about it, he did NOT have to do that.... But at the end of the day, God knew what was going to happen after sending that very last angel (Zeruel) down near the end of the movie... It had to be done for the better. That's love with punishment, no different than doing something bad as a child and getting an ass whooping for it. That's one of the main reasons why I love Evangelion so much!!
4:29 the sheer power needed for something that big and un-aerodynamic to sprint fast enough to break the fricking sound barrier is impossible. Realistically, the EVA’s body would crumble underneath it as the faster you go, physics demands that you get heavier and heavier. That doesn’t stop this from being one of the most badass scenes in any anime ever though
I was watching this, and just noticed that when Asuka drives the knife into the angels core, she uses her knee, and breaks a piece of her knee off, like a kneecap. I never noticed the breaking of the kneecap while she did that.

The Anime version attempted to study their tissue (and thus foudn out that they are ~99% similar to humans). Here (the movie version) they just clean it up. don't know about the manga.
In NGE they recovered several angel corpses and Ritsuko said it was for 'study' or something like that. It's heavily implied that the angel corpses were used to create the EVA series that we saw in EoE though it is never explicitly stated. Mmm, in simple terms; The (most) evil guys used the angel corpses to study & later create their own angels that would be fully under their control.
Blame the dub. In the sub she's only surprised that Rei arrived and grabbed the core. She still give attitude due to her own pride but she didn't go "where did you come from"
That's Sahaquiel, Leliel looks even weirder than weirdness itself. A seemingly flat object with spherical shadow - it has more than 4 dimensions, that's more than weird.

I like that you see the collateral damage from the EVA’s just running around, which would make sense considering their immense size
It should be illegal for an object that large to break the sound barrier, at sea-level, while RUNNING. The shear power in those legs

I was watching this, and just noticed that when Asuka drives the knife into the angels core, she uses her knee, and breaks a piece of her knee off, like a kneecap. I never noticed the breaking of the kneecap while she did that.
its not the kneecap of the eva. its just a piece of the armor (knee protection). 12000 layer of broken special armor: just thusday :D
Rebuild 1 and 2 really improved over the series, then it went all crazy with 3 and 3+1 lol
I remember being very baked the first time I watched this scene. Definitely had a 😮😶🌫️🫨 look on my face the whole time. Mind 🤯 when the mini wing guys appear alongside an epic score

What does Nerv do with the decayed angel's corpse?
The Anime version attempted to study their tissue (and thus foudn out that they are ~99% similar to humans). Here (the movie version) they just clean it up. don't know about the manga.

In NGE they recovered several angel corpses and Ritsuko said it was for 'study' or something like that.
It's heavily implied that the angel corpses were used to create the EVA series that we saw in EoE though it is never explicitly stated. Mmm, in simple terms; The (most) evil guys used the angel corpses to study & later create their own angels that would be fully under their control.

Man Asuka pissed me off so much here, everyone desperate to get it done and she's giving attitude and asking dumb questions.
Blame the dub. In the sub she's only surprised that Rei arrived and grabbed the core. She still give attitude due to her own pride but she didn't go "where did you come from"

That's Sahaquiel, Leliel looks even weirder than weirdness itself. A seemingly flat object with spherical shadow - it has more than 4 dimensions, that's more than weird.
