Great review. Straight from the heart. Porcupine Tree hits you where you least expect. It is addictive. I was at their live gig in Amsterdam November 2022 and we walked out after +3 hours stunned, amazed, flabbergasted. They are magicians
I have the Anesthitize Live double on Blu-ray and disc....lemme tell ya, that concert is wall to wall A class musicianship...and even better when you dial up the Dolby Atmos 7.2, kick back and have your mind blown over and over with every track. Simply exquisite.
On with David - really enjoy sharing your enthusiasm for PT. I believe that PT are truly the best band ever - by a long, long way, stratospherically next level.
PT is such an incredibly talented band. Been listening to them since the 90s. It is so rare for a good band to actually get better with time. Fear of a Blank Planet is their best album IMO. Also so on point for so many young people who are lost today. They are worse than angry, they are nihilistic. Nobody to look up to, nothing to look forward to (at least in their own minds). How many of these school shooters have been on anti-depressants now? How many from fatherless homes? These are the issues this album deals with. I wish our leaders would do the same rather than always blaming guns or movies or video games. They never want to deal with the core of the problem.
Remember that this album was written in 2007... Things have not really gotten any better regarding numbing kids with pills.. :/ Steven Wilson described the main character of the story as "...this kind of terminally bored kid, anywhere between 10 and 15 years old, who spends all his daylight hours in his bedroom with the curtains closed, playing on his PlayStation, listening to his iPod, texting his friends on his cell phone, looking at hardcore pornography on the Internet, downloading music, films, news, violence..."
Woo Hoo!! First shout out. 🤟🤟🤟 Glad you liked it, definately one of my favorites. The music and the lyrics are so in synch and so full of meaning, dark, angry but relatable. Only just discovered PT myself towards the end of last year when "Harridan" got releaed. If you haven't done it yet, that is also awesome. Really enjoy your reactions, keep em up. 🤟Peace from everyone watching from the 🇬🇧 P. S everyone butchers my name, don't worry about it.
We told you! We told you! PT songs are typically dark or morose. Sometimes, they overwhelm with both the music and the subject matter of the lyrics. From the same concert, check out Strip the Soul / .3, which is from In Absentia. Their darkest subject matter, from inside the thoughts of a serial killer.
