My father in law was at the cheapside street fire he was a Glasgow fireman out of the northwest fire station from the 1960s until the mid 1980s he lost a few good pals that night I was born in Glasgow in 1955 and remember a lot of old Glasgow that’s long gone now

I remember that pond. Scene of a great disaster. When I was a "wee boy" I used to sail my boat there. Usually sensible little trips. But one day I wound up the motor and sent it straight out. I suppose I thought it would reach the other side. It never did. Stopped in the middle of the pond and that was the last I saw of my little boat.
@@ZL54JK8 love it. I remember trying to make a trawler attachment to catch minnows off the back of the pedal boats on the pond, we caught all shorts of stuff but no fish. Do you remember the model boat club on the pond?
@@shug831 No, I don't. I didn't like Queen's Park after I lost my boat. However, on this subject I will say that I went to Victoria Primary School and we had an elderly teacher who made his own model boats. They were fantastic, and on Saturday mornings he went to sail them with a number of us boys. He was certainly an authority on all things nautical, and his two favoured parks (depending on the wind) were Alexandra Park and Barshaw Park near Paisley. I'd have been in grave trouble if I'd lost one of his boats in the pond!
Thanks Colin, another great collection. It took me a while to work out that the Cathcart road photo is at the junction of Larkfield street with the "Gushet" rail yard just out of sight to the right.
