  • A look at the West Coast Main Line in the Wembley area. Shot from Wembley Central station and a footbridge a short distance south. The footbridge crosses the WCML and the north end of Wembley Yard. A separate span then crosses the DC lines just before they pass under the WCML. Featuring Bakerloo Line and London Overground on the DC Lines plus Virgin Pendolinos and Voyagers, LNW 350s, Southern 377s and Freightliner 66s on the WCML

The Freightliner trains come from a huge depot near Willesden Junction, using a parking yard in Wembley.
There used to be a siding that was used by Red Star Parcel trains, and may have had a use as a coal delivery siding during the days of steam, when Wembley was just a station under a bridge, without that structure on top, which was built in the late sixties and early seventies. That siding has now been converted to the current underground car park entrance road, which used to be accessed by a different way in.
When I was at secondary school I had to do cross country over that footbridge. 😁

A very good video, thankyou ...You certainly found some interesting photo locations ... shame the weather was against you. Hope this will not discourage you from returning in better climes. Great subtitle info ..... and no pointless "chatter" or "space age" music. ... Other bloggers could learn well from your example.

Thank you. Since I started making videos, I keep my eyes open when travelling for interesting locations. I try to check them out on Google Street View but it doesn't always work as their camera is a lot higher up than me.

The kid screaming in the background at the beginning of the video does put passengers off at times. Especially when waiting for a train to come.

As a grandparent, I have every sympathy with the parents who have a little one in distress.

In your series on DC lines, I'm hearing the announcer announcing about LU services and the halts as well. Is it because the stations are operated by National rail rather than TFL? and does it happen on other lines as well? Seemed rare for me.

The lines from Euston are National Rail even though the track is shared by the Bakerloo from Queens Park northwards. The stations are staffed by London Overground which is a TOC and not directly part of TfL. Consequently National Rail rules and practices apply. The intermediate stations on the Bakerloo Line between Queens Park and Elephant and Castle are not announced. Not sure what happens on other lines which the Underground shares with National Rail trains. My previous video of the Richmond end of the North London might give some clues. East Putney to Wimbledon is National Rail but all passenger services are operated by the Underground. The Metropolitan/Chiltern shared tracks north of Harrow on the Hill are actually owned by TfL. I would conclude that there is probably not a common standard across these cases.

Unfortunately, Wembley Central is a most unwelcoming station. There is nowhere to sit, either in the station or in the square outside.

During the Lockdowns the management of the Square locked up the benches, so I as a local stopped shopping there and went to a local big supermarket near my house instead. 😠

Can you please do Carlisle or Lancaster ?

I used to visit Carlisle regularly before I started filming and know the railway in the area reasonably well. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to go there recently. I think there are some stills in an album on my Flickr page.
