I love the Spanish Eyes song that Madge and Mel sing but for some reason, it never fails to make me cry every time. I just can’t seem to hold it in or stop, I am quite a sensitive person, who is also autistic as well as other issues (I knw may not be the reason - I’m still learning from my recent diagnosis of ASD)
Love and miss Mel. If this is Madge singing throughout this recording, well wow what a voice!! Just beautiful regardless...... thank you Benidorm team!! X
Love this, you can't beat the original Benidorm cast: Madge Mel Janice Mic Michael Chantelle Coolio Donald Jacqueline Kate Martin Troy Gareth (?) Mateo The last who worked in the bar (not joyce) Geoff Noreen
It always absolutely floods mine, especially as its lyrics are so apt when this was Geoffrey Hutchings' final scene. I'm so glad for everyone they got to share it with him and hear in rewatching it what he'd have told them if he'd known he was going to die; people's love stays in others throughout absence and they can be happy again.
A wonderful, touching close to the series, made even more poignant by Geoffrey Hutchings' untimely demise - but always manage to hold back the tears of sadness, when I recall the scene where Mel bends over in his thong - Uggghhhh! - but a classic comedy, moment! :-)
The one that made me sad was the Christmas episode when they found out Mel passed away, he was a fantastic character and Geoffrey was an even better actor
I never can hold back the tears when I watch this. I didn't get into Benidorm until the episode when Mel died off screen. So when I first saw this on DVD I didn't realise it was Geoffrey Hutchings' last scene and was in floods from it being so beautiful and heartwarming in its own right. Although as you say it really wasn't Geoffrey's time to die, he and his castmates couldn't have wished for a more beautiful, fitting last time together. The only cast member who wasn't in it - Abigail Cruttenden - had at least been a part of the episode with a perfectly timed guest return. So everybody got to say a professional goodbye and the lyrics/montage say what I'm sure Geoffrey would have said to them if he'd known he'd soon die. Absence doesn't stop you living on in people's hearts, it's much better to think of them with happiness than mourning and life can go on with more happiness.
@@1994rhysw It must have been so difficult for the actors playing the Garveys to film that. You could see Steve Pemberton struggling to hold in his emotions when Mick took the call telling him Mel had died. Then you could see everyone was so distraught for real when Mick broke the news, especially the lad who played Michael.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant, I've watched every episode more than 5 times and love every single second of it but as the old saying goes all good things must come to an end.
I don't for one minute think Geoffrey Hutchings' sudden, untimely death was meant to be; that would only have been the case if it spared him a painful end from an incurable illness. However, I really don’t think Geoffrey or his castmates could have wished for a more beautiful, fitting farewell scene, either. The lyrics about how absence can't break a loving bond which remains within are so apt and so comforting - Geoffrey still lived on in the programme through repeats, memories and I'm sure others wanting to do his own memory proud. Everybody else got to share in that scene and say a professional goodbye while demonstrating affection Geoffrey had generated in the song and in them for him. It just shows how fine the line between laughter and tears is when real life makes a comedy scene surely one of the most poignant things ever shown on British TV.
A beautiful poignant scene during one of the greatest TV Comedys of all time, Gis I lived the original cast , But Madge and Mel abs the Gravies and don't forget Martin on the quiet he was brilliantly funny
brilliant song love the show such a waste geoffrey,s death but lleft us with some classics like buying the dovers meaning peacock island classic RIP GEOFFREY
Definitely the original ending they just continued it because the Christmas special left off with the question of how will madge make it in benidorm without him
No one knew it at the time but this would turn out to be Geoffrey Hutching’s (Mel) last ever scene. He would pass away while filming the Christmas special.
He died before he could begin filming the Christmas Special July 1st 2010 he was 71 years old he was survived by his second wife and his 3 children from his first marriage
@@ellajuniper1626 yeah I mean I think if they had a couple more seasons to work with it would've been good again and im happy there was more seasons but if season 3 was the end I think alit of people would be fine with that
I enjoyed it all the way through. Did it decline in quality? Absolutely. Was it silly? Yes. But, it was easy to watch escapism. I don't think every TV show has to be gripping, must see TV. Sometimes it can just be light hearted and fun. That's what it was for me.
This was the show at it’s pinnacle

I believe that in real life Sheila Reid is a soprano, she sings beautifully in Mrs Caldicots Cabbage Wars as well.
This song makes me cry 😢😢❤ my grandma used to love this show and I love it too. I hope to visit one day ❤
This was so emotional!
All the characters had a warmth to them and a family feeling
Love this, you can't beat the original Benidorm cast:

Mel
Janice

Kate
Martin

Mateo

Geoff

Jane was the first manager
Janey was the first manager, and Gavin was Troy’s partner :)
Maybe Kenneth too
Honestly I’ve seen the new Benidorm. and I’m glad it got axed a couple of years ago. Utterly dreadful when the Garvey’s left.
@@Slothdeman it was the new family for me, lesley and kenneth and all were still as good as they were when they started
Watching again on Netflix, brilliant, love the songs. Please God when this virus comes to an end I'll get to benidorm..stay safe..
Same here...

Same here too...
Same, I’m going next November hopefully 🙏
I agree with you
That song was just beautiful, brought a tear to my eye

I agree, just rewatched the episode and cannot believe what a beautiful and well-done farewell this was, especially considering the circumstances ❤️
Awwwww! Benidorm, us Brits know how to make a Comedy! God love em all.
A beautiful poignant scene during one of the greatest TV Comedys of all time, Gis I lived the original cast , But Madge and Mel abs the Gravies and don't forget Martin on the quiet he was brilliantly funny
Garvey's and Madge surname was barren until she married Mel and became Harvey
Loved Martin, he was so genuinely sad and gentle, and lover ❤
This was just brilliant and so funny with the original cast. Rip Mel
i watched this episode recently, yet again i shed the tears.
I enjoy the contrast from the cheap humour gimmick of Wank McAndrews to the aesthetic quality of Spanish Eyes. Genius.
Brilliant moment of the show.
Beautiful song shame mel died and it is ashame that we never chantelle and baby coolio again
This would have been a perfect ending if they decided to stop at that point. Sheila Reid can really sing.
Yes have you seen her in Mrs Caldicot's Cabbage War Sheila sings in that film as well
this is a great scene.
What a voice madge has!! Obv doesnt smoke that many cigs in real life x
Beautifully sung...
Brilliant x
