Hey man, great advice. Much like I’m sure you’re announcing is, it was clear, concise, short and helpful. I finished announcing the game for my daughter’s varsity field hockey team last night. It was my second game to announce and man it was a barn burner. I stayed neutral. I noticed at half that I was calling our teams numbers and names much more than the opponents numbers and names. (Which is extremely hard to do.) So for the second half I improved on that. I feel a little redundant so I’ve been on the field talking to the players asking them questions about other sports, interests, hobbies etc. It is hard to get in what you want to while not talking everyone’s ear off. The brevity section of your recording is right on man. I felt it without even knowing it. Keep it brief bro! They can see the game. I do know that field hockey is confusing so I’ve started to explain some basic rules of the game, which I got wrong the first time around. The crowd let me know. Overall you are correct in that it is an untapped area and can add a lot to the sport.
This is great stuff! Pumped that you’re announcing Field Hockey! I would definitely benefit from someone walking me through the ins and out of the sport if I were watching as I’m largely unfamiliar with the fine details. Send me a link to a game you've done!
I assume you meant “swallow”? Yeah, it was a lot of talking all at once - probably could have helped myself by taking breaks and sipping water. Maybe that should have been one of the announcing tips!
