Jess, thank you so much! I've spent all day watching your videos several times each, and slowly following along with my own drawings. The things I've learned!!!!! I also want to thank you for the way you present the tutorials. I've been so turned off by the shouting, atari music and other gimmicky gee gaws other photoshop tutors empoy. Maybe my brain is on the same wavelength as you, but hearing you calmly speak and the incredible affection you seem to have for the adorable animals is just marvelous and inspiring. I'm so grateful!!!
Thanks! Your video and your simple explaination of photoshop tools for kids painting really saved my child's day at school. Keep doing your beautiful work
These two videos of yours are exactly what I've been searching the internet for for over a year now!! Thank you so much!! Just wish you could teach me to draw like you do. :)
Aww Erin thank you so much. I am completely self taught and thought I'd start to pass on my knowledge to others. If there's anything specific you want to learn just let me know. I'm thinking about doing some tutorials on how to draw certain things too - animals etc.
Wow! I am so excited to see this! As an artist I love the watercolor look but I always had trouble getting it in to photoshop to add to print designs! This video as short as it is has so much basic info! Thank you so much! Super excited!
Thank you Jess. Your bunny tutorial is one of my favourite tutorials. I am so glad you are posting more videos. I love your illustrations. I would love tutorials on how you draw your animals. Thanks again :-)
This was a fantastic tutorial, thank you so much for sharing. I'm creating some characters for a children's clothing website, and my mom has also written her first book that she would love me to illustrate. Your drawing style is so peaceful and very inspiring!
Thank you so much..your work is beautiful and your sharing style is awesome💜💜💜 Do you use a tab and stylus to paint .can you please share brand and model name.thanks in advance
I watched your other video of the bunny a few weeks ago and was sad that you didn't have more videos. I am so happy you are uploading more! I absolutely love your work!
Hi Susann - I am so glad you are enjoying my videos - I am going to try and get some more up here. I downloaded the NKS5 blending tool - I may have had to download it using either Firefox or Chrome - I use a Mac and Safari gives me trouble downloading things a lot of times. Here's the link to NKS5: nkurence.com/blog/2012/06/nks5-natural-media-toolkit-for-photoshop-cs5-cs6/
I do enjoy your videos! The new one of the bunny is too cute! :) Please upload more watercolor drawings as well. I downloaded the file, and when I try to install it my photoshop comes up and says it cannot be installed, because it's not the right document. :( Do you know any other good blending brushes?
My coworker had the same issue - but I'm pretty sure it was because she tried to download it using Safari and not Chrome or Firefox. What are you using to download? are you using a Mac?
I have sketchbook Pro 6 and want to make watercolour brushes. I've tried downloading brushes, but for some reason, it won't let me. Can anyone help me? does anyone know some good brush settings I can use?
Thanks for the video. This is really helpful and your work is beautiful - not a hint of it being photoshopped. :) I just wanted to know if a regular stump blender brush (in Photoshop CC) is okay to blend in the colours or do you use that specific brush in your link for a reason?
You are a star. So clearly explained and exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for sharing. I am trying to download the blend tool but I am having problems too. Trying to install manually too using Adobe Extension Manager CC but giving me an error. The file downloaded ok from the site. But I cannot install. Any tips?
Hi Claire, thanks so much for the kind words! You don't have to use the blend tool (several people had a problem downloading it and unfortunately since I didn't create it I can't fix it) but you can just use the "smudge" tool and get almost the identical effect. Check out my latest video for a detailed description on how to paint in watercolor using the smudge tool to blend 😊 Hope that helps! th-cam.com/video/B8uMG121CJg/w-d-xo.html
Thanks! In the end that is just what I did. I fidgeted with the settings and managed to get the same effect. I will definitely watch your video though. Thank you.
Hi Jess, what equipment do you use? I find using a mouse so cumbersome as i am used to paintbrushes, but don't know what I can use instead of a mouse to do painting on the Mac. I have an iPad too. Any suggestions please? Thank you for sharing, I love your art work! xx
Hi Christine - I first start by drawing with pencil and paper and then I scan the image into my computer and upload to Photoshop. I use a Wacom tablet and digital pen to then color the drawing. You definitely won't have much luck with a mouse! Definitely invest in a Wacom tablet and digital pen for use on a computer. If you have the iPad Pro you can get a new apple "pencil" which is the Apple version of the Wacom digital pen - I have heard that is also very good and you can draw directly on the screen. Good luck!
Thank you Jess, that's great advice! I will have a look at the Wacom tablets not having an iPad Pro. Keep posting more of your cutie art videos, they are fab! x
Hello Jessica, I agree with the 190 viewers who gave you “a tumb up” and I put mine to it. I'm interested in children's book illustrated tutorials, and would like to now if there is a special reason to work with photoshop, because I noticed that a lot of people work with natural watercolor and paper, and what about procreator on the youtube pro? Thanks for the video.
Hi Johnny - of course you can certainly just use traditional media such as real watercolor but a lot of professional illustrators will at least clean the image up in Photoshop. They may partially paint their work and then upload it to photoshop to add some finishing touches. I enjoy coloring in Photoshop and I also enjoy the real thing too - so it's personal preference. Photoshop is just a great tool to do all kinds of things - unlimited revisions and it is forgiving - where real media is not. As to Procreator - I don't know much about it. Thanks for watching!
So I did another video using the "smudge" tool instead of the nks5 blending tool - it works almost exactly the same. Check out the video on how to do it here: th-cam.com/video/B8uMG121CJg/w-d-xo.html

I am using Windows and tried both Chrome and Firefox.
hmm very odd - I will try looking into this for you and if I can get it figured out I will let you know!

Thanks so much! Yes you can use the smudge tool in place of the blend tool I mention - it has almost the same effect.
Thank you!

You're welcome Christine - check out eBay - you can usually find a used wacom tablet for pretty cheap on there - good place to get started :-)
Hi Jess,
Thanks for this helpful video!
Where can I download the watercolor brush and the blending tool?
Greets,
Magali
Hi Magali - links to both the blend tool and watercolor brush are right above in the description - just press the down arrow key. Thanks!

Do you know of an alternative to the tool you use for blending? I cannot get it to install :(
Unfortunately I do not know of another tool for blending. What are using to download it - safari?
So I did another video using the "smudge" tool instead of the nks5 blending tool - it works almost exactly the same. Check out the video on how to do it here: th-cam.com/video/B8uMG121CJg/w-d-xo.html
