      The saddest part, ELVIS was betrayed by
      so many unloyal ppl who were suppose
      to.." have his back". ELVIS took care of
      all their needs , he was over generous.
      In the end their lack of loyalty, backfired
      on them.

    The main idea I draw from ANY of these people is where would they have been or done if it weren’t for ELVIS?? It all started from one little shy guy. They helped him and he dearly paid them back, over and over again, finally giving his life after being worked to death trying to keep them ALL up! Go figure. Many people made MONEY off of ELVIS’S name, and still do, unfortunately. He was a wonderful man with a God-Given-Gift. Please, let him Rest In Peace.

Red loved Elvis, Elvis loved Red.. red was hurt because he was done wrong by being fired like he was.. red and the guys all said the writer wrote the book in the way he wrote it and they had no idea that was how he would make the book.. I guarantee if Elvis lived.. Eventually Red, Sonny, and Dave would have been rehired.

    If Red was really sorry about the book and all the bad things he said about Elvis. Red should took the money he made and donated it to one of Elvis charity's.. ELVIS WAS BETTER THEN ALL OF THEM PUT TOGETHER. ELVIS WAS SO GOOD TO ALL OF THEM. TOO GOOD IF YOU ASK ME. MY LOYOTE WILL ALL WAYS BE WITH ELVIS.. Red REALLY HURT ELVIS. WHEN ELVIS WAS DOWN AND NEEDED HELP red WAS KICKING HIM . YOU DON'T KICK SOMEONE WHEN THEY ARE DOWN.. It is sad Elvis bought them cars house's and gold rings and vacations. and Red did this to Elvis... IF YOU REALLY A TRUE FAN OF THE KING !!! YOU DON'T FORGET WHAT HIS SO CALLED FRIENDS DID TO HIM..

    • @GlobetrottingWithTrey
      @GlobetrottingWithTrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But you are talking about Elvis’ friends who he loved and who worked hard for Elvis. I can’t hate Red for being mad about being fired from a job he had been doing since 1955.. he has said many times that the writer took their interviews and made it into a tell all book in that way.. he said many times he hated the timing of the book but at the time it was all to get Elvis to understand that he was out of control. We don’t look at Elvis as a human, and that hurts our judgement that he could have make mistakes. Elvis unfortunately made mistakes and his choices hurt him.

Sonny says exactly that when interviewed initially after the book was published he says some thing along the lines of “ hell yes! it was revenge”. Addiction was hidden in those days and not talked about in public even by Drs. You can't talk to anyone that has an addiction and think they will listen. All the guys were blamed that they didn't do anything. They All tried, but until the person admits it's a problem and needs help you Can't help them. Especially someone that's famous, has money and the unscrupulous Drs that wrote the prescriptions! On top of that family members sneaking them to him(step brothers) a manager and father that didn't confront him(just cared about the money he was bringing in) Dr Nick was the fall guy, when it was the Other Drs giving him anything he wanted. Dr Nick tried to keep him straight and on a strict schedule for his meds and hired a fulltime nurse. You also have to realize Elvis had a Drs reference book and knew what drugs were for what and could fake pain and do whatever it took to get the drugs. Dr Nick caught onto that. That's why he went to other Drs to get what he wanted. The guys were taking alot of those drugs too!

From what I understand, their story was told to an employee of the Enquirer Steve Dunleavy and they said he (Dunleavy) exaggerated or embellished things just for sensationalism. My question would be why wouldn’t they proofread the book before it was published? After all it was the “Enquirer”. I think most people know what kind of a publication that is, not the epitome of top caliber reporting.

    I'm a little confused.George Klein was a true, loyal Elvis's friend. Red was a true friend for many years, but.later. when Elvis needed more loyalty and friendship, Red, his cousin Sonny and another guy wrote a book talking about the private life of Elvis pointing out all the negative, intimate facts of his life. In the last phone call when Elvis, very sick,depressed, painful and lonely, offered him again all his help and afffection, Red taped the conversation without telling him and (If I remember rightly, gave it to the press.The book "Elvis, what happened?" broke Elvis heart.George, why did you invite him?

      Red was a pivotal person in Elvis life and one of his main guys his entire career. Red and those guys were hurt how they had been fired and has said the book was intended to make Elvis realize he needed help! It backfired because Elvis died during its release. They regretted the whole thing and was talked into it. People are human beings and made mistakes. Elvis too!

      @@GlobetrottingWithTrey I've already told you that Red had been a true Elvis's friend for many years, but, when he was very sick, depressed,painful and lonely, when he needed love and support the most ,he,, his cousin Sonny and Dave Hebler gave him a death blow.The two cousins had a bad temper, they were tough and rough,Elvis had to pay a lot of lawyers to defend them from mishandling intrusive fans.Vernon fired them, in a way tgat may be considerd not appropriate ,but the costs were becoming too high,so that Elvis had to do exhaustive tours, which contributed to his death. They knew very well that Elvis used ti fire and hire again almost at the same time they had only to wait and talk to Elvis.Even in the last phone call he offered him his friendship and help while Red was taping the call unbeknown to Elvis and gave it to the press. There was bad blood between Red and Vernon. "He didn't like to take ,orders from Elvis or any one, but he'd been damned if he had taken order from that hypocrite of Vernon" (P,Guralnick)
      Please, who could be so naive to believe that they intended make Elvis realize that he needed help? When he was near to die? If they really wanted to help him they would have done it much earlier, since he came back from Germany but all his entourage was busy to share the privileges , the amusements,the friendship of a superstar!They wrote that infamous book only FOR REVENGE AND FOR THE 3 MILLIONS THEY EARNED.This the truth.

My spin on all of this is most not all of the people in Elvis life is that in spite of his generosity to them, not to mention strangers, every day of his life, continued to make money on his name. None of the MM were forced to stay. What is so often not mentioned in the interviews are the ailments they knew Dr Nick was treating Elvis for were for the many health problems Elvis had. Like many people, I think Elvis thought the more meds you take the better they worked. Just tired of people inferring he was a doper. Sorry, didn’t mean to vent here, but it’s so tiresome to hear all the criticisms without any explanations. My bad, I’ve should’ve saved this for another time and place. I’ve seen and enjoyed some of your other videos and enjoy them very much! Please forgive my rambling!😊

    In the early 1970s, my grandfather bore witness to fisticuffs involving Red West and an elderly magician.
    At one point during the gruesome battle, the magician produced a silken kerchief. He snapped the kerchief with a great flourish, whereby a cloud of sulfurous smoke temporarily obstructed the visage of the assembled audience.
    As the smoke dissipated, a fine oaken cup-board appeared next to the magician, inlaid with ivory and carved with an elaborate design.
    The magician, with great effort, lifted the cup-board over his head, and then dashed the cup-board upon the unfortunate Mr. West who collapsed with a pitiful moan. The cup-board itself shattered into many pieces.
    The magician, believing he had smote the mighty Red West, smiled and took a deep bow. He failed to notice that Mr. West had arisen, a ferocious scowl on his countenance and his shock of Red hair awash in blood.
    What happened next can only be described in one word: vivisection. Red and his brother Sonny proceeded to administer the severest of thrashings to the ailing magician, striking him upon the face and breast many times with a metal pole.
    As a last effort before lapsing into unconsciousness, the magician produced a fluted vase, from which an enormous colony of bees emerged. Sufficiently distracted, the West brothers stole off into the Memphis night, chased by an angry swarm of bees. The magician never regained consciousness and died the next morning. This is a Memphis legend that many will testify to witnessing.

    I don`t care for their motives, reasons, and excuses for writing the book that broke Elvis` heart.
    It`s hard enough when you get betrayed by enemies but to be betrayed by friends, is beyond words.
    Among other things, Red called Elvis an idiot. Well, for decades, that "idiot" gave them a secure job and paid for their extravagancies. That "idiot" made it possible for them to play parts in his movies. Because of that "idiot," they lived among celebrities and they even met the US President. They got to travel a big portion of the US and traveled to Germany and Paris. They slept with women who otherwise wouldn't even look at them. That "drugged idiot" opened doors for them, they didn`t even know existed. For decades after Elvis` passing, they have been invited to talk about Elvis and got paid for it.
    Sorry, as I said before, friends behave differently. Elvis was a very private person, and there is no excuse for what they did to him.
    I`ve worked for people who haven`t been my friends, and although I was angry at some of them, I`ve never talked about things they wouldn`t have wanted to reveal to others.
    Either you`re a decent human being or you`re not.

You see it all the time these days on Facebook and social media people getting mad and letting the world know.. this was the way Red and those boys let out their anger.. in hindsight they know it was not the best thing they ever did in life and regretted it.. I do believe they wanted to help Elvis and felt this was the way to get to him.. Red loved Elvis.. Elvis loved Red.. they would have forgiven each other if Elvis lived.. my opinion..

    how can this man Red West say Elvis was his best friend? writing a book like that about someone's private struggles and making it public for the whole world to read about it. That is not a friend to say the least. This book was released in July of 1977. Elvis died on August 16 1977. I doubt very much that is coincidence. R.I.P Elvis

    • @GlobetrottingWithTrey
      @GlobetrottingWithTrey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Red was his best friend from the beginning. The book was not what you think. Actually red, sonny, and Dave had no say in what was written. The writer took all their stories that they told for a month to him in a hotel room and told the good ones that sells books. If you read the book what is so bad about it? Elvis loved multiple women? Elvis had an anger problem? Elvis had a problem with drugs? What you should be happy about is three guys trying to wake Elvis up and make him realize he is killing himself by how he was living. Unfortunately the timing of the book was too late.. Elvis died just like red and the boys thought would happen. I’m not a delusional fan, I blame Elvis Presley for not taking care of himself like he should have.. it’s the truth and I’m about truth.

      Still no excuse for thinking you’re going to suddenly compel someone to get help just because you write a tell all book after someone’s dead and can’t defend himself. In my opinion a few of the things that came out in the book Destined to Die Young should have been a red flag to the people around Elvis. Dr Nick never told any of them all the ailments Elvis needed drugs for? To completely blame him and not his enablers who rode the money train for years before writing a book doesn’t seem fair to me.

    Red is gone now, however, many of us who lived through it back then will never forget, or forgive, Red West West, Sonny West, and Dave Hebler for what they did to Elvis with their book. It was a real-life example of what Judas must have been like. As time passed most of these sidekicks went on to gain their own glory, fame. and some money purely from their associations with Elvis. It is somewhat awkward to watch Billy Smith even sit on the same stage as Red knowing his closeness to his cousin. I do not promote, encourage, or endorse frivolous negativity, however, honesty can seem negative especially when time has somehow candy-coated reality.
