    We usually make a trip a few times a year to our local Amish. We always visit the Sales & Surplus Store and pick up a few tools, etc. We visit the grocery store to pick up Peanut Butter, Apple Butter, Cinnamon Apple Jelly, spices and used food buckets for bulk storage. Food from the Bent-n-Dent Store and bakery goods from the bakery. Great cinnamon bread and cinnamon apple bread among everything else.

    There is a wonderful Mennonite store near me. Cold cuts, sandwiches, bulk snacks like nuts, pretzels, candy. They have fresh bread, dinner rolls, pies, cakes and cookies. Some gift items, cards, decorative dish towels, books etc Also pickles, jams, canned vegetables.
    They are actually moving further out into the country as the building they rent in has been bought by WaWa :/
    I will continue to go to them but I hope they make it!!

    We always stop at Fountain Acres Foods when we are in eastern Indiana near Fountain City north of I70. We buy a supply of deli meats, breads, and a relish mix for making a dip.

    You want pizza sauce with that intense tomato flavor? Try Walnut Creek pizza sauce. It tastes like they use sun dried tomatoes, soooo good. I pick that up every time I’m at Zook’s for their pot pies. New to Lancaster County & have found your videos so helpful in understanding the Amish ways & finding the great stores. Thank you for your hard work & many travels.

    Fresh baked goods for us. We once were talking to a lady at a roadside stand, and her daughter pulled up in a flat-bed horse-drawn wagon. The flat bed of the wagon had lots of pies. Of course we bought a few.

    Pretty much anything the Amish bake is fantastic. Shoofly pie is their signature classic dessert but their fruit pies & quick breads are great too. My mom's baking & cooking dramatically changed for the best after she ordered a few Amish cookbooks. (Shoofly is like pecan pie - minus the pecans. Strange but good.)

    I love the amish stores. When living in Ky would go 3 times a year to stock up . Corn meal, flour, spices, jams, jellies, tea. Varieties that supermarkets don't carry. Moved to Xenia Ohio in August 2021 need to find a store . When I go back to Ky I stop at The Home Place in Georgetown Ohio but would like to find one closer. I enjoy your channel. Blessings to all, stay safe and keep warm ❤

      Thanks Pamela! I'm not sure which would be the nearest Amish to you - you may have to drive a bit southeast to reach some communities, but if you'd like to look closer this is a full nationwide listing which will show you community locations & sizes: groups.etown.edu/amishstudies/files/2021/08/Amish-Pop-2021_by-state-and-county.pdf

    If you haven’t already, you should visit the Wheatridge Amish community in Adams County Ohio. The Miller family there has a discount grocery, a furniture store and bakery. The bakery is only open Thur-Sat. Very friendly people and the discount grocery is fairly big as is the furniture store. The bakery is full of delicious items!

    I enjoy the bulk grocery stores and the discount (scratch and dent) stores! I went on a day long trip visiting several and drug my mom along. The most interesting find was an Amish man selling bulk quantities of fruit out of his garage. He also had a single wide trailer set up as a variety store. (This was in Pennsylvania around Somerset and Bedford counties.) I picked up pears and apples in 1/2 bushel quantities. Very fun stop.

    Crazy good price on those Almonds. My family are Blue Diamond growers here in California, and I have never seen that 1lb bag of almonds for less than about $6 on sale. Usually priced around $10. And even if they are past their expiry date, they are probably still good.

    Hey Erik, Amish stores are awesome!! I love the candy, cheese and meats from the Amish places! Walnut Creek products are very popular and they will ship to your home. As you show the products I noticed the picture in the background and I love it!! Where is Hillsboro, Ky.?

      Susie we are on the same page then 😎😎 Neat you saw that, it's an old postcard, looks more like a PA Amish scene but I thought it would make a nice backdrop...Hillsboro is in Fleming County, KY. Lot of Amish communities in that region within a relatively short drive so I recommend the general area for a visit! I liked that one, the people there have ties to Amish in Buchanan County, IA

    Top Amish store items for us: various deli cheeses, cured meats especially Lebanon balogna, if you can find it. Pecan pie at our local Amish farm stand is VERY good, far less sugar so that you can taste the pecans and crust (superb with stout coffee.)

    The Super Tonic is also called "Fire Cider". I made a batch of it one time. I make mine with Ginger, Garlic, Onion, Horse radish, Cayenne pepper, and Raw Apple Cider Vinegar. It takes 3 to 4 weeks to steep and it lasts a long time in pantry. I take a 1 oz shot of it each day if I feel like I am coming down with something. Nips it in the bud! I got lazy and haven't made any in a while. I need to make some this summer!

    Very nice! When I go up to New York for a visit I've got to always hit the Conewango cheese factory or as they call it now the Valley View Cheese Co. Inc. for my fix of fresh cheese curd and other things. Down here I sometime head over to Yoders country market in Bulls Gap, TN which is only a 30 minute drive from the house to grab a few things and they"ve got a great Deli shop in there also.

    I'm a big fan of Amish cheeses and flavored milks and the Banana puddings, all natural and super fresh. Home made custard style ice creams are also the very best of God's blessings here in Farmville Virginia. Miller's and Parkview are the best Amish/Mennonite stores in the area.

    Enjoy viewing your posts. I was in Shippsawana yesterday and stopped by an Amish honey store. I am a violinmaker and was looking for propolis, which he did not have until later in the fall. had a nice conversation with the owner. Also bought a block of bees wax, which I use to make a polish for instruments. He was interested in making a furniture wax polish to sell and we had a nice discussion about how to mix different waxes in turpentine to get different qualities in a wax product. He took my contact infor to let me know when he will have some propolis available.

    We shopped just yesterday at the two Amish stores in the nearby Amish community (about 20 miles away). We bought eggs, cheese, bread, elderberry jelly, pancake mix, fig bars, Amish roll butter, liquid aminos, olive oil, children's story book (both stores have a lot of book and learning materials for children), shoulder roast, sweet potatoes, fresh tomatoes, cypress and pine tar soaps, potato chips. In the past we've bought our broom, fly strip, cooking utensils, metal coffee cup, hand towels, pressure socks, local apples (Missouri grown), garden plants, peppermint, chicken broth, salt, gloves, sewing items, stationary and envelopes, cookbooks, garden trellis, pizza cutter. Basically, think of these stores as a non-electronic Walmart with windows and skylights.
    And finally, if we could afford it, we'd buy some of their furniture that they displayed. We enjoy shopping at our Missouri Amish stores.

    I typically make a beeline for the crafts section because the prices are so much better than box stores. I also typically browse jellies/jams, cheese (Amish Butter cheese is the best for grilled cheese, I promise), and baked goods.

      @AmishAmerica  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't really comment on prices in general in this video but you bring up a good point - usually they are pretty good deals. Not being up to speed on crafts I wouldn't be able to compare prices there but good to hear that holds there too. Amish butter cheese, I'll take some!

    Yoder’s of Tustin is an Amish store - bulk foods, bakery, sandwiches, and furniture - in Tustin Michigan. Also Millers family Market near East Jordan, Michigan. They have a large inventory of frozen foods at great prices, fresh milk from Amish sources, seasonal fruit and vegetables, bulk foods, large variety of candy, and much more. We do the bulk of our grocery shopping there because of the good prices and friendly people. I sometimes drive a van to transport the Amish here in our community to places they need to travel. Usually within a 100 mile radius to funerals, weddings, and other activities.

    Erik, I don't know if you're ever in New Jersey, since I don't think there's much of an Amish community there. But there IS a wonderful Amish Market in Kingston, Central NJ called Pennsylvania Dutch Farmers Market. It's open Thurs-Sat.

    Excellent cheese selection! I highly recommend it if you're in that area.

    Have you ever been to the amish community around Bainbridge in Ross County, Ohio? It isn't far from Oak Hill and there is a lovely general store there called JR's. There is a bakery nearby that also sells fresh glazed donuts (we always went early on a Saturday morning to get them while they were still warm) and I grew up calling them "5 pound donuts." Not only do the donuts feel like they weigh 5 pounds, but you might gain 5 pounds by eating them. You'll never eat Krispy Kreme again. 😆

    If you use a lot of maple syrup, go to the producer and buy directly. So much cheaper by the gallon. I can into pints by heating and sealing.

    Great video! I was wondering, will you upload a video about your experience in the Colorado community? I had no idea that they’re also in Colorado. It’s only 11 hours from me. Maybe when I check out Monte Vista, I’ll buy something there.

      I will - that's been a bit delayed b/c of this second trip I made adding more topics :) I'm planning one on Colorado for the video after next. So should be up next week 👍

    Most interesting video...seems all the Amish communities have these stores..Shettlers Supplies is basically a old fashioned general store little bit of everything..dented can store a few miles up the road..and M&M bulk foods..fresh made subs to order homemade butter..tons of nuts chips pretzels flour sugar cheese beef sticks..anything and everything for baking canning etc..the Wasabi peas are awesome ! Lol..the maple syrup and honey I get come in mason jars and I like to buy and taste the different jams and jellies..but have not been brave enough to try the newest flavor.." Bacon Jam " lol.. Walnut Creek I do believe is Amish owned from what I've been told ..the brand is not only in the Amish stores but the little English owned gas station/ convenice store just down the road from me half a mile on my way to work has the Walnut Creek brands there .. everything from meats to potato chips cheese cookies a huge variety of products..thier chips are a full 16oz 1 pound bag for 4 bucks !! "Buffalo Wing or Quasa" flavor.. the prices of things seem to be all approximately the same there as here..excellent video very well done..I live in Amish community and still learn something new from your videos and watch them more than once..have a better one..👍🙏

      Thanks Ron and you are right you can find some great variety in some of these places, especially the larger ones that have a more non-Amish customer base. As is probably clear from the video I usually always leave these places with something tasty 😄

    Unfortunately no Amish communities I know of where I live, but I have wanted one of their quilts for the longest time (lost the one I got when I was a teenager).
    Just found your channel and find your videos interesting :)

    Howdy! I am really enjoying your videos about the Amish, which are very informative - thank you so very much! I have ties to the Amish in Big Valley, Pennsylvania (some of my ancestors were Yoders and Kaufmanns, families from that area). Next time you visit Big Valley, please be sure to stop by Peight's Store in Belleville. It is an Amish-owned variety store, which is highly popular with the locals and visitors. It sells a wide variety of products, ranging from food to clothing to housewares, etc. There are other smaller Amish stores scattered throughout the valley, some of which sell homemade baked goods. Whenever I stop in one, I love to buy whoopie pies and half-moon pies - YUM! Thank you once again for the videos!!

      Happy hear that and glad you found the channel! Thanks for the tip on Peight's too. I've been in an Amish store or two there but I don't think that one. Really like visiting BV though it's been a few years

    I look for laundry items. Hanging devices with attached metal clothes pins. Found a wooden frame with nine lines to hang clothes on in a house. Would love to find a manual half size Lehman type washing for a mini apartment.

      I would use it in a shower, so, it has to be small enough for a half size wringer.

    I'm not sure if they are is or Mennonite, but next time you're in Southern KY check out Sauders in Elkton KY. They have a large store. Furniture , grocery items, cooking supplies. It's really nice!

    I loved this video! Felt like I was shopping with you and you shared your haul, haha. Now here’s a question what are you going to do with all that syrup? Are you a pancake lover or waffles or do you just dip your chocolate covered pretzels in the syrup? Inquiring minds need to know….. Great video here thanks again.

    • @AmishAmerica
      @AmishAmerica  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Happy to hear it Jean - I was hoping that would be the experience. So, I actually gave away all three syrups this time, but, I made sure they went to people I know pretty well 🙂 So I just was able to try the one I called "turpentine can" syrup, it's good stuff with I guess a "medium" color and flavor. For my top syrup-worthy foods I rank them 1. Pancakes 2. oatmeal 3. waffles. Chocolate pretzels would be a new one but I'll try most things once 😄

    Love this channel! My husband is from the Chautauqua area of NY and grew up next door to many Amish families. I was wondering if these items are available to purchase online?

    • @AmishAmerica
      @AmishAmerica  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad to hear it Denise! So the tricky part here as you can imagine is that most of the let's say "true" Amish stores (I mean Amish-owned and run little places like these in this video) are not going to be doing much online (at least not directly, though they may sell through a non-Amish partner). But there are some online outlets where you can get Amish or Amish-style products. Here's one business, I know these folks from some years back (they are former advertisers), I believe it is mostly if not all Amish-made: www.amishworkshops.com/ . As far as things like canned goods you should be able to find various options for that as well.

    Have you been to the Amish community around Bellville/Mansfield/Fredericktown area, (Southern Richland county) near Columbus Ohio? It was interesting, I found out about the community driving on I-71 to Columbus seeing Amish buggies crossing over bridges, haha. Can I guess if that’s new community in Ohio you were talking about?

      I've been in the Fredericktown community before but it's been about 10 years. It's grown a good bit I think since I was there. That's actually not the community I was talking about 🙂I'll have to keep it mum til I post the vid but I can say it's about 2 hours or so away from there

    I've never been to an Amish store! I only picked up a couple Amish cookbooks at an Ohio truckstop when I was working as a cook on the inland river tow boats. I was hoping for some recipes from scratch, but was surprised to find most of them called for prepackaged boxes of cake mix and seasonings like instant dry soup 😂

    • @AmishAmerica
      @AmishAmerica  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of those things that belies the "Amish are all-natural, all-the-time" stereotype 😉 time-savers and conveniences like that are also appreciated although I guess flavor might suffer for it

    I have my own frog jam recipe but with out the hot peppers. It’s delicious. That tonic sounds very similar to the folk remedy called “fire cider” . A lot of people swear by it. I’ve never used it but I use a lot of ginger in cooking and tea and find it helps calm my stomach issues for sure.

    • @AmishAmerica
      @AmishAmerica  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You just reminded me I think some commenters referenced fire cider on the other video I did where I mention it. I enjoy it, maybe because I like spicy foods, and if it keeps me healthy, can't beat that. The homemade frog jam sounds great
