There is often so much on the list to do, that we don't see what we have achieved. This is a great reminder of all you have managed to do over the last year - it is so much!! Well done x
Awesome ❤. A great summary of your accomplishments. Love this channel, reassuring that there are like-minded people in the world, but also because it's fun and real. Which is so needed these days.
How lovely to look back on the year ❤ I’m already looking forward to watching the 3year Timelapse…all of the accomplishments without the frustrations and time 😂

@@OffGridBruce that’s definitely a winter job ! God knows we get enough rain the outside jobs will be on hold till spring , look forward to seeing the house coming together ☺️
Really love the rustic lean-to ❤can see a beautiful red brick floor there too . . . You guys are really manifesting your dream - wonderfully inspirational!!
You guys are amazing an inspiration, when ever I watch you I then head into my tiny garden and do stuff 🥰and Rory is a legend 👍, keep up the fabulous work and bring us loads more vids ❤❤
Delightful Bruce! I hope this retrospective makes you and Annie and the girls feel very proud! You need to watch it together to get the full impact of your accomplishments! So many goals achieved, so many beautiful things built, so many animals cared for! You all have big hearts and big talents! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bravo!!!
And... Made loads of great videos too, funny how Rory's face stood out this time under the tache what a handsome lad as well as a legend. Thank You so for your lovely videos of your lovely family some sanity in a mad world ✨
Earlier today my brother sent me your 1 year anniversary video. I was thrilled to watch it! Then I watched this one. I’m so impressed by the work you’ve done and how it’s done with the whole family involved. Count me a new subscriber. And, the pigs are absolutely adorable! Thank you for being who you are! 💜
What a hellava achievement in the space of a couple of years - I watched all of these videos as you were progressing in real time and this timelapse vid is a great reminder! It must be for you too?! Really quite astounding and a far better lifestyle for the whole family. Inspirational. Kx
I recently discovered your channel, and I have been binge watching all of the video's. Having English, Scottish and Irish ancestry I have always been interested in the old homes of the UK. It would definitely be a dream to renovate one of the old homesteads. Congratulations on all your family has accomplished. I look forward to your next video.
Great Vlog Bruce and a brilliant look back and what you have all achieved. Not tried the Round Wood framing but its on my list to do when I eventually move and hopefully get some land. have a great week
Absolutely love all that you have done, and I am a total fan of using the rough hewn lumber to build with. There is something so satisfying when you take the time to mortise/tenon a joint rather than using lag bolts. It might take a little longer, but i agree, the reward is so worth it. I look forward to your next video, hoping to get enough courage to make the same leap. We have family in Miltown, and have so many memories spending our summers at Spanish point and the white strand.
Wow! What a lot you have achieved so far. I must admit I was getting a little worried that you were all okay when you hadn’t posted a video for a couple of weeks. Looking forward to seeing what you get up to next. ❤️
Rory is a legend. you have done so much. Beautiful energetic family! but i worry that you misplace the hairbrush. That did not happen in my generation. You all seem so healthy and happy that it just doesn't matter. God bless!
How durable is the wooden fundament? Is it pure wood or coated? If you just drill screws in like that without further treatment, it will not last long, will it?
Should be pretty durable. It’s made of larch so extremely durable. The screws are just to stop lateral movement the wind braces will stay in place without them with the way I have cut the wedge
It would be really interesting to compare the carbon footprint for building the yurt (manufacture and transport of concrete, production and transport of chemicals like the Sadolin, impact of the loss of trees, the milling and transport of the wood, the electricity for power tools, manufacture and transport of screws & joist hangers, the manufacture and transport of the insulation materials, etc.), over simply buying a large caravan/mobile home. It would also be interesting to compare thermal efficiencies between the yurt and the caravan, and the carbon footprint for powering and heating both with the most efficient forms of heating for them. Overall costs wise, the caravan would be a clear winner, unless the plan would be to use the yurt/several yurts as a holiday let/s in the long term.
I’d say the footprint of a caravan/mobile would be way worse than a yurt personally. The yurt structure is from a chestnut coppice so completely renewable. The insulation is sheep’s wool renewable and bio degradable. I used a tiny amount of concrete which I would have had to use if I sited a mobile. Most of the materials used in the yurt would return to the earth being natural materials. The only bad bits I’d say would be the PIR insulation in the floor which is horrible stuff but does a great job insulating and I guess the stain. We heat with a small wood burner which gets us nice and warm in no time. With wood that is coppiced for burning it is carbon neutral and completely renewable. I guess a caravan would have a gas stove as standard. The long term plan is to rent it out in the summer once we are back in the house to earn a bit of money. That’s my thoughts anyway. I love the yurt it’s a beautiful space to be in :)
I have seen many videos similar to this recently, which are always amazing. But I do wonder what you do with the kids. You moved the entire family to the middle of nowhere. Do the kids still go to school? Did they ever go to school? Are you homeschooling them or is there actually a school in the area that you drive them to every day? Just really curious about that part of the whole 'living away from civilization and doing it all yourself'. Still amazing that you do all of this, but just wondering.
We aren’t that in the middle of nowhere our closest town is about 10-15min drive and has lots going on. We have home educated for about 8 years now but recently they have been going to a new learning community that has just opened and they love it. Elsie is 13 now so won’t be long until she can decide what further education she wants to pursue. She did 1 year of primary school before home Ed and Betsy has always been home educated. We love it. Definitely works well for us
8:00 As someone from Kazakhstan, I got immense goosebumps seeing this, that's how we put our yurts up as well!
That’s awesome
that yurt is such a lovely space. You guys achieved so much already it is so very impressive. and yes, Rory, is an Absolute legend!.

Top tip. When you're rolling out the stain/varnish, use a broom handle or pole in the end and save your poor back. Great work and loved the video 🫡
Great tip! I gave myself another tip after doing that. Don’t paint in the dark 😂 I had to redo a third of it the following day
