It is beautiful to see, that everybody can be happy with his own truth. To be creative must not mean, that you can have everything just ready by thought. Some things in life grow very slowly and might last very long, some things
get up quick as they end - who knows? Last month I went back to this beautiful place and could make some more pictures of the finished building. They show, that all worked out very well. Hans van Dam and all those many and beautiful people, who followed this idea, just to try out something like this, without any template and experience.
So I have already started to make a final video from the finished straw bale house - which is called
today "Yogahouse" and you will see then - a beautiful temple and place for retreat.
Hope to get the video ready before easter as good things have time.

How do you compute for lateral loads? Are the nylon straps the only means for the exterior walls to resist rotation?
I am just the video maker, not the constructer of the house. The house is almost ready, until summer, we will finish all works including a rocket stove and then as well will be done the full video. Preliminary so much: the walls were plastered on both sides with a 10 cm thick layer of clay and sand plaster.

Learned a ton from this video! By far my favorite so far, and I've watched quite a few. Nice to see no concrete and very little rebar! I'm wondering if you pinned the base bond beam to the earthbag stemwall or you just floated it, thanks!
Thank you for your comment! it is not earth-bags, but split-stone-bags, very solid and long lasting and save against rats. The base bond on top is just floated.
@@WolfgangvonBoyen can u provide a link for these bags?!? as I would like to purchase them. I am starting the process of building load bearing strawbale. I plan on using balers twine to lasso the bags to the bottom plate/bottom bond beam to add some weight to my walls. I doubt it's necessary, but seemed like a decent idea.

The editing and the music made this a real pain to watch. My eyes are literally in tears trying to keep things in focus and being repeatedly frustrated.

No wood wall framing? That things gonna sag like hell over time.
This is one of the first straw bale houses ever built. If you watch the video to the end you will see that we have already used a wooden frame. We also pulled the straw bales very tightly with straps and compacted them. The house has been standing for over ten years now and to this day there is no crack in the plaster or any sign that the walls are sagging.

Are you sure you staked the straw bales the right way? You want the straw to not lay flat because it will compress over time. You want the straw to be on end so it doesn’t compress so much. The bales still lay flat but the straw has to be vertical.
The straw bale walls were pressed with straps, so further compression is impossible

there is plenti of steel grate barrier under the plaster, as wells gravel sacks between the foundation and the straw balesand wherever else needed. so no rats inside or even ouside. for t he rats we have got cats andfor the cats maybe tigers... I am sorry to tell, in the moment I am we cannot finish this film, even the straw bale house had been finished lately. Now it is called Yoga House - a place for Meditation, Music and Hata Yoga.

Why don't we get to see the finished product?
the finished product will be shown within next summer, when the house will be finished. In the moment we install a rocket stove... and still somme things are to be done... we go slowly... and in a good way.

You are completely right! This house was made by many people within two years, without real plan, but with good mood and improvisation. This video only shows the half of the whole construction period.
