    A well thought out review and thanks. I am very fond of horn speakers and they are my foundation in my 7.2.4 system due to the ease of drive so no rewiring of my house.

    Another well done, clear and enjoyable review. I'm always a fan of beautiful cabinets. In fact, my neighbor and I just completed a new cabinet for my venerable Dynaco PAS 3. Clad in Ebony with several coats of clear coat, inside wrapped in copper with a nice added vent on top for the tubes. A million years ago I had the Ebony clad Yamaha NS-1000's. Very similar to what's used on their pianos and very beautiful. This brings that back. Next up, the Dynaco tuner I have. An AF-6. I like warm and round on bottom. I'll keep these in mind. Thanks again for the really well done videos!

    Thanks Tarun for another great review.
    And what a beautiful pair of speakers. Don't think they'd be a great match for my system, but what a tremendous relief from the ubiquitous black (or white) boxes. Harks back to a time when speakers looked like fine furniture.

    Taron, thanks for your in-depth appraisal of the Fyne F700. I listened to these at a local hifi dealer, and your observations were confirmed. I've a set of Tannoy Eatons whose tonal balance are a bit better as you move off-axis, but these vintage units don't have the level of clarity that the F700's exibit. I also have L Cao FA6 single driver speakers in TQWT enclosures w/ passive radiators with the mass loading removed. As you stated, Dopler distortion creeps in as power is increased, hence why I now limit power to 12.5 wpc to keep the doplar at bay. Much appreciate your detailed review style with comparisons to similar competition. Thanks again.

    Hi Tarun
    That was most enjoyable thanks, I spent most of your review saying, that's what causes that or
    that's why they can do that. For years I've had a thing for point source 'speakers ever since
    a pair of Westminsters I think they were, frightened 7 colours out of me playing Mars from the
    Planet Suite back in 1969. For me I think it's the room loading abilities of this type of 'speaker, the room becomes
    the venue, play something recorded in a seedy London 60s jazz club and you'll be high before
    you reach the living room door, those were the days. Once again I've learnt something new thank you,
    Sorry to go on a bit, looking forward to the next one, really do appreciate the work you put into this
    channel.

    I recently purchased the Fyne F502SP after testing about 15 other speakers (some slightly cheaper/some quite a bit more expensive - Spendor A7, Vivid Kaya 25, B&W, Amphion, etc) and the Fyne's won the contest hands down!
    It is an absolutely stunning sounding speaker! Very easy in terms of room placement, great bass, sound stage & dynamics.
    Cannot recommend the Fyne range highly enough - for the price they beat many more expensive speakers and the workmanship is just superb.

      Do they compare with Montreal made Totems ? They appear to be a higher end speaker than Totems bookshelf speakers. To think I emigrated from Wishaw. A small town near Bellshill where Fyne have their head offices. I guess if I had stayed home I would be listening to Fynes not Totems at the moment.

    I like that you stated that your best amplifiers did not match with the Fynes. Been yearning for Fynes since they came out. Now, I run my personal (2nd hand) grail Reference 3a MidiMaster with an H90 as a seconde system in less than ideal conditions. The speed And(!) sweetness that you can get from a simple crossover (few parts) design, that is (in my version) a bit long in the tooth, with an amplifier that can produce current and fast is continuing to amaze me. One of these days, I will hook up the MM to my AR tubes. Wonder if that will show me limitations as for you with Fyne and Exposure or amaze me even more…

    Great review!! Since I am looking to get a pair of Tannoys, i will definitely audition these, or the next model up before decision’s made. Though I must say the electrolytic cap in the crossover put me off a lil, I guess it’s the actual sound quality that matters at the end of the day

    • @abritishaudiophile7314
      @abritishaudiophile7314  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you William. I questioned Fyne about the use of the iron core inductor and the electrolytic cap. I got a response from the Technical Director Dr Paul Mills himself. He explained that the iron core gave better bass damping than if they had used an air core that would fit in the space. The electrolytic is not directly in the signal path and again it was Dr Mills assertion than a poly cap offered no sonic benefit. I can’t speak against it one way or the other as I would have to switch the components out myself to know for sure.

    Was curious about this manufacturer, glad to know the sound signature, but I wonder if that is consistent across the range. BTW, I wish more reviewers had a range of amplifiers to swap in and out while testing speakers and then explained the synergistic differences. This type of comparison has more utility than the measurements guys offer, and obviously more than the "this-live-bootleg-recording-of-Jethro-Tull-sounded-like-I was-there-on-these-speakers" guys.

    My thoughts are anybody who is willing to send their stuff to “ everyone “ is pretty confident that they sound good... and “ they “ are pretty much US .. as in audiophiles . And probably audiophiles with better heating than “ us .
    Thing is , most stuff today , sounds good.
    I’m 52 and I’ve done the endless search for refinement, liquidity and whatever . I bought the Klipsch Heresy IVs with an expensive subwoofer ( can’t skip on sub) . And I’m done .. DONE!
    Then I’ve ordered a tube amp to go with them ( still waiting) but As far as speakers , I’m done. I have Focals and LS/35a and the usual suspects. When you get done with refined and boring , you will come around. Just ask Gutenberg:)

    A correction if I may? I specialise in building speakers using vintage Tannoy drivers. I have spoken with Dr Mills on this design. It is not true that they do not have similar dynamics due to the smaller horn compared with conventional speakers. It uses the woofer and a waveguide, essentially acting as a full mid range before the flared horn kicks in fully for the hf. The benefits of this which you didn't mention is that they effectively create a true passive cardiod response and importantly, control directivity across the full frequency range meaning toed in much more than you had them, you get less reflection off side walls, a more accurate room power response of lower thd than conventional multi drivers whose position results in field lobing or asymmetric wave propogaton with comb filtering. You need to toe them in immediately in front of the listening position so the axis crosses only when you move your head a few inches forward. Try them like this....they'll image better and wont sound as hard in the horn.
    If it weren't for the fact mine are rather large, you would be welcome to take them and try those. You won't find them lacking in detail or dynamics. Those fynes cannot be expected to be ultra dynamic with a single 6 inch woofer which has a true cone area of more like 4.5 to 5 inches! You need proper big cones...12 or 15 inch, to do the dynamics you're expecting really. This necessitates cabs of 100 to 140 litres using 12 inch dc drivers. They'll literally blow your socks off!

      @abritishaudiophile7314  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Paul. Great to hear about you experiences and thank you for sharing your knowledge. I did try them in different positions with varying degrees of toe in. I was comparing the dynamic to similar sized speakers that I have reviewed, including my smaller ProAc Response 1SCs 😊

    Fyne F501 user here. I'd like to add one advantage to concentrics: At least my ears are very sensitive to direction and driver characteristics. I was shopping for a ribbon-tweeted speaker, but found myself distinguishing between the different drivers too much. The technique came between me and the music.
    That being said, your description about the type of listener experience around 6:50 is spot on, for the F501 at least. In fact, the speakers have drawn me into more intimate, vocal or acoustical, genres.
    The F501 being floorstanders and having a second bass-driver packs more of a punch, but no doubt loses a bit of point-source clarity and coherence. Especially with the upgrades to the 7-series. That tonal richness you mention in combination with the way it fills the room is what won me over.
    Where my experience differs (yes, with other speakers) from yours, is at low level listening. In fact, the F501 are a bit too engaging at low levels to my taste: in my room and setup it is difficult to use them for a background music in a room with some conversation or a dinner. Just because even at low levels they engage that much more then other speakers I had, like Magnat project 4 and Linn Nexus. Probably because of bass extension, and / or the difference between standmount and floorstander.

    I think it's quite important to point out when doing speaker review's that a speaker that sounds great in your room might not necessarily sound as good in another persons room. I myself have experienced this when listening to a set of speakers in 2 different rooms. I think we can all agree that the room plays a BIG factor in how a speaker sounds.

    Tarun, I like that we get to compare most of the products to your Proacs, it´s as if we get to know them a bit more for each review. I can see why the other speakers may have more air. Those speakers have baffle mounted H.F. units which allows the highs to radiate in a wider patten then the horn/wave guided H.F. units in these speakers. That means this speaker is providing less delayed H.F. energy from reflections. Either option is a preference. I tend to lean toward clarity, than diffuseness caused by delayed reflections. I am a person who loves detail and color, both can be hidden or at least reduced by reflections. That said, I am surprised these speakers don't have high level top end detail.

In the past year, with covid hitting all retailers quite hard, (except for Amazon), a relatively new brand such as Fyne has had a harder time than normal to setup new dealers. Many dealers are experiencing cash flow problems and with audio shows on hold, few have had the chance to hear these little wonders in person. Excellent review and we'll done.
    Did I see electrolytic capacitor in the crossover?
    If yes it's too bad!
    These type of capacitors will dry over the years and will change there value leading to changing the sound character. and eventually die.
    These type of capacitors are cheap and tend to fail over the years much Sooner than film capacitors that are more expensive but reliable.
    I hope it's not electrolytic because that means manufacturer is cutting corners.
    Is electrolytic or else?
    It's not clear .
    But the review itself is excellent. I like the Way you do it.

    • @abritishaudiophile7314
      @abritishaudiophile7314  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Kobi, there is indeed an electrolytic cap in the crossover. Also, an Iron core inductor. I questioned Fyne audio about this and got a response back from Dr. Paul Mills himself. The electrolytic is not directly in the signal path. It was his view that changing it for a metal film cap would offer no sonic benefit. The other caps are top quality Clarity caps.
      The size of the inductor needed ruled out the use of an air core design. To get the DCR down the gauge of wire needed for an air core would not fit. I suppose at the SPLs that the F700s is likely to be played at the magnetic field on the iron core would not get saturated. In any case it was Dr Mills view that he could achieve better bass damping with the iron core as opposed to an air core that would fit.

      @@abritishaudiophile7314 The thing is though I love floorstanding speakers, my current living situation is that I only have small rooms. So bookshelves with a subwoofer where I can dial in the bass will work better for me.

      Btw, do you do this for a living, Tarun? Just wondering…I’d love it if here in the UK we had canjams and Hifi festivals where we could demo gear and meet up….

    Hello! I'm stuned that for this price tag they still use sandcast resistors and an iron core inductor. Also, they don't seem to use any kind of damping material. Maybe they removed it for photographic effect. At any rate, I find some of their technical decisions to be questionable based from an acoustical standpoint. Fine video as usual (pun intended)!

      I am sure they removed the acoustic foam for the photo. They all seem to use sandcast resistors. I still can’t seem to get to the bottom of why 🤔

      @@abritishaudiophile7314 I have them here and I love them. Paired with a croft audio integrated ( a British hybrid integrated with a tube phone Stage) and I really like it. Would love to know what you think of them. That's all ;) also a bass horn ( even though it is just a quarter wave bass horn) is a really interesting concept that sounds a bit different than usual speakers. Take care!
