I use to go fishing with my grandfather when I was a kid. He would get drunk until he couldn't walk and let me drive the boat. He was also known to eat minnows for shock value
Really liked the video. Both exciting and relaxing at the same time without obnoxious loud music etc. Loved that you were teaching your daughter at the same time.
great to get out with the kids. awesome informational Videos mate. would love to see one on picking tide and times from you.. keep up the awesome content
Thanks bro! The rod is an Ocean's Legacy Elementus PE1.5, can find it at Hunting & Fishing, Land & Sea, Yeehaa. Reel is a Kohga IC, I don't think NZ stocks it, I brought mine from Japan
Hi Rodney, it's the Rob Fort Bungee Rod and Paddle Leash with Swivel Clip, you can find it on Marine Deals for $24.99, I've used this one for about 6 years now, have about 5 of them and all are still in good condition
Depends on a few factors, quality of the skirt, how aggressive the fish are feeding, striking the fish hard will increase the chance of ripping the skirt. Generally the skirt isn't expensive to replace, and if you're landing lots of fish it's worth the expense.
awesome video - great teaching skills and so much patience and credit for letting Scarlett do it for herself, WHere do you get the reels from and how much are they please? I'm in Auckland :-)
I got these from Japan, they work out to be around $400NZD, basically the IC means it has a line counter on it. Similar reels in NZ would probably be the Shimano Genpu

Awesome that you are teaching your daughter to fish Davo. Memories of that will last a lot longer than the latest Play Station game or whatever.
Exceptional educational video, without a doubt the best I’ve see. Great Job
Thanks mate! Appreciate the kind feedback

Great video really insightful for those learning kabura fishing or wanting to take their kids fishing!
Love it your kids reactions very cool big fish too. I need to use those rod raps
Thanks mate, that fish took us by surprise haha
@@FishoDavo That is part of what is great about fishing
Nice video bro! So cool teaching your girl how to fish!
Thanks bro!
love your work davo! Well done Scarlet
Thanks Peter! I took inspiration from your great Kabura tutorial
@@FishoDavo haha welcome mate!!
nice catch Scarlet!!!
Thanks big bro :)
Hi what’s the gear ratio for u recommend thanks
Hi, for Kabura / Slider (like in this video) I recommend low gear ratio 4.3:1 to 5:1. For Slow Pitch Jigging go faster 6.2:1 to 7.3:1
hello, what gear ratio of the reel is the best for this type of fishing?
Slow ratio is good for this style as the skirts have a lot of action in the current. 4.8:1 is what I use.
I use the Glowbite Grumpy Fish. They light up in the water and have a dispenser in them for secret sauce.
I've used them a lot too, you can see it in some of my earlier videos
Where are those jetski saddle bags from? They look handy
This one is actually a jetski handlebar bag, but my handlebar is too big so I attach it to the side like a saddle
Ah ok. Is it the GC handlebar bag?
Great vid bro, where can you buy that baitcast rod and reel combo from in nz?
Thanks bro! The rod is an Ocean's Legacy Elementus PE1.5, can find it at Hunting & Fishing, Land & Sea, Yeehaa. Reel is a Kohga IC, I don't think NZ stocks it, I brought mine from Japan
@@FishoDavo awesome appreciate the deets, rate ya content too
Hey Dave what are the rod teathers you are using ?
Hi Rodney, it's the Rob Fort Bungee Rod and Paddle Leash with Swivel Clip, you can find it on Marine Deals for $24.99, I've used this one for about 6 years now, have about 5 of them and all are still in good condition
@@FishoDavo thx Dave !
Hi Dave, what size braid and leader are you using, and the rod specs thanks
Hi Andy, it should be 25lb leader and braid, PE1.2. The rod is an Ocean's Legacy Elementus PE2
Awesome video Davo and Scarlet! Great trev Scarlet got!🤙🏼 Man those daiwa reels look fun with the clicking drag😍
Thanks bro, first time I used that reel, glad its got a good clicker on it!
Do you need to constantly replace the skirts?
Depends on a few factors, quality of the skirt, how aggressive the fish are feeding, striking the fish hard will increase the chance of ripping the skirt. Generally the skirt isn't expensive to replace, and if you're landing lots of fish it's worth the expense.
Top dad you got there Scarlet
Thanks mate!
Nice to see you fishing and teaching your daughter. Do you tie these to the mainline? I'll have to give it a go. Thanks
You need to use about a meter of fluorocarbon leader, connect braid to leader via FG knot
Do you use braid, how long is the leader?
Yes braid for mainline, and about 1 metre of fluorocarbon for leader
@@FishoDavo would the kabura jig get caught on the braid to leader knot?
hey dave, shoud i cut the squid if i put it on the kabura hooks? or can i put a whole squid?
Cut the squid, you only need small slivers of squid on the small hooks. Nothing wrong with hooking big piece too but I don't find it necessary

Hi Scarlet :)
If that was me the whole box of lures would have ended up in the drink 😮
Haha I think that too sometimes
Are you based in Auckland? Would you be interested in going fishing together?
Are you using nylon on the baitcaster? And bait😂😂😂
Pretty sure it's braid
