    No talking, just walking. Exploring the English Countryside. A nice gentle walk along the Kennet and Avon Cana and the 29 locks. It is one of the longest continuous flight of locks in the UK, they were built to overcome a steep elevation change of 72 meters (237 ft) over a relatively short distance of 2 miles (3.2 km). The locks were constructed between 1794 and 1810 as part of the Kennet and Avon Canal project. The primary purpose of the canal was to connect the River Thames at Reading with the River Avon at Bath, providing a vital trade route for goods like coal and stone. The sight of the 29 locks in succession creates a stunning visual spectacle, attracting tourists and canal enthusiasts from around the world. It's a popular spot for photography and leisurely walks along the towpath.
    A beautiful walk! Do enjoy :)

    About Dave's Walks
    Hi there, I‘m Dave! I've lived in the English Countryside all my life, and I love it! I enjoy walking, and couldn’t help but notice just how beautiful the UK can be away from the cities. I found myself inspired and decided to get some camera equipment and make some walking videos so I can share my walks of the beautiful countryside with everyone!
    I mainly focus on small towns, villages, picturesque landscapes, rolling hills and mountains, forests and canals, all along the coastlines in England, Scotland, Wales, and who knows maybe one day further afar!
    I upload every Sunday 11.45am GMT (3.45am PST) (6.45am EST) (5.15pm IST) (9.15pm ACST)

    I use the free version of Davinci Resolve 16 to do some really basic editing. Mainly making sure the sky isn't over exposed. It's from Camera straight to TH-cam. No cuts, no fancy business, no talking, just walking.

    Thank you for this video, Dave. The name Caen Hill caught my attention because in France, we have a city named Caen. Through your video, I was able to learn that the Caen Hill locks are named after Caen in honor of the French city that served as inspiration for their design. 🙂🙂 hello from France 🇨🇵

    i wonder what it' s like in high season with multiple boats wanting to go in each direction. so refreshing to see green grass and even puddles. It's hot, dry and smokey here in British Columbia

    somewhere beside those hill locks,in 1896,my g-father proposed to my g-mother (and was accepted!). I remember the canal as a weed and rubbish choked mudbath in the 50s, with occasional ponds inhabited by disconsolate swans, and a very few, rotting,lock gates.

    Excellent Dave. Does that canal freeze in the winter 😮? ❄️ And love seeing the ducks.

    • @DavesWalks
      @DavesWalks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I think it is common for all the canals to freeze over when we get a cold snap. We have had some mild winters lately, but even then there is usually a week or two where there is some ice.

    I'm in the US and not familiar with these types of canals. What are all the boats? Do people live on them or are they for commerce? Thank you for this lovely walk and the incredible Avebury walk with the stones. I've become a big fan of your channel. ❤🚶‍♀

    • @DavesWalks
      @DavesWalks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are indeed house boats. With the advantage you can take your house and live around the country.
