Listening To God's Will

  • Brother Malachy isn’t messing around when it comes to listening to God’s will. He puts his entire conversion story on the table and lays it out for all to see, to show his viewers how-if you sincerely give your whole life to God-he does not disappoint.
Brother Malachy kept nothing for himself. Even after being offered a free ride for an undergraduate and graduate degree in literature at the University of Georgia, and having the chance to have his best friend as his roommate, he still felt like he hadn’t found God’s will. He still felt like God was calling him to something more. He was asking God what he wanted, but he wasn’t listening.
Brother Malachy gave up the full scholarship offer, and took some months off to discern. Eventually he found himself entering the brotherhood of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. Learn his full story, including many more interesting details, in this video.
Do you feel like God is calling you to something greater? If so, stop messing around and take your discernment seriously. God probably has something prepared for you that is better than anything you even dared to imagine.

If you’ve been watching the CFR’s videos on Ascension Presents regularly, you’ve probably noticed how they’re popularized the phrase, “Somos peregrinos. Poco a poco, vamos a llegar” (We are pilgrims. Little by little, we will arrive.)

Ok y'all, the timing of this video is WILD. I've been praying really hard lately to know God's will in my life, and just on Monday I had almost the EXACT SAME experience in Adoration that Brother Malachy described - me begging Jesus to let me know His will, why can I not figure out Your will, etc., and He said to me very clearly, "It's because you're not listening." Hearing about the struggle that might come next almost makes me want to give up entirely, but I know I just have to lean in and trust the Lord, because He has great things planned.
    Thank you for this video!!

Matthew 7:7 is applies to your situation. You have asked and it has been given. Now you should seek and then knock. Patience is not the key. Do trust but trust in yourself as well. This is the message Malachy is presenting here.

Last year was my 2nd year of nursing, and I was falling into abyss. I was questioning whether did I make the wrong decision to join nursing as it was draining me physically and emotionally. So I started to search God and would grab any opportunity to go Adoration. Sometimes I would leave the adoration with tears and sometimes with so much joy. Now as I enter into my final year, deep down in my heart, I know that God is telling me that this is my vocation. Turning 19 this year ;)

Thank you Bro. Malachy for your intimate testimony of discernment. Great thoughts for all of us in all walks of life. Unfortunately, God's will isn't always up front as in the Bible. Many times we must work at it. But in the end we know God will guide us in our decisions. The final decision can be painful in some regards, yet joyful in other regards.
I always enjoy the the videos on Ascension Presents. Great thoughts, a mini-retreat in a way, from various people.

      @fr.malachyjosephnapier6333 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill,
Thanks for the feedback, you are right about God speaking in different ways, and that there is a pain in the yes sometimes (think about Jesus in the garden of Gesthsemene - "if this cup can pass, please let it, but not my will Father, but yours be done..."). Just remember though that prayer itself is actually work! It is ridiculously hard in my own experience to remain faithful day in and day out to personal prayer and silence. From my experience as well, the more I have become accustomed to the voice of God in prayer (through mediation on Scripture, Rosary, etc), the more I have been able to see God at work in the activities of my day, the "work" that is visible. I pray that the voice of the Father is heard in the stillness and the events of your daily life.
      God bless,
      Br. MJ

Interesting, when in the silence of prayer and you hear a voice, could you possibly do a video of how to discern what that voice is? Whether it’s God, my own internal voice, my subconscious, or something demonic?

I am the same! I don't like to be silent with my thoughts because I have intrusive ones at times (OCD/anxiety) and because I am afraid God will tell me to give up something I really want :( I reckon Jesus would totally tell me I'm not listening!
I guess if it's from God it will line up with His character (something I've also had skewed perceptions about!) and Biblical principles, and also with your giftings/interests to some degree? Maybe you can pray that God will make it repeatedly and abundantly clear, that He will keep the enemy at bay as you try to discern, and that He may use trustworthy people to confirm His will??
Praying for you (and myself!) in this!

moveaxebx what is peace? I have no problems sitting in silence for hours at a time. My problem comes with the discernment. Anxiety medicine can bring peace. Alcohol can bring peace. Those, nobody will confuse to be God though. I’m not trying to be argumentative. I just don’t think it can be boiled down to 6 words.

    Thank you.
It’s been hard and it continues to get even harder because I think I am being called to religious life. I’m going to go into a discernment retreat with a loving group of Spanish nuns. I’m scared and heartbroken because my heart somehow was hoping God would allowed me to stay with my amazing boyfriend. We’ve been together for 4 years and he’s been everything a girl could ever ask for. He’s supported my love for God, he’s accepted everything I am with so much love and patience. Everyone would think we would get married and so did I. But I’m wrestling with my inner peace and my spiritual director suggested to discern religious life before considering marrying him. Pray for me because I love this man to pieces and it’s really taken everything in me to ask God for His will because I knew deep inside it could mean being away from my boyfriend. I want to love God and do what He created for me. It’s just scary because that could mean not being with my lover and best friend. I’m already crying by just writing this. This is also really tough for my boyfriend because he’s always desired a future with me and even though he has accepted my decision to discern religious life with so much love and understanding, I know it still breaks his heart. I love him so much please pray for us, please pray for us

Alondra, Christ peace to you sister! Thank you for your sincerity and honesty about this real struggle to be open to God's plan for your life. Although I chose not to speak about it in the video, there was likewise in my own life someone whom I loved deeply and thought I would marry that God asked me to surrender to Him. All I can tell you is that in the end God will honor your freedom, but He also made your heart. So whatever he asks of you, it is not to take something away, but to give the greatest gift your heart could know in this life. You were made for a definite purpose, God had dreams in His heart when you were created, ask Him what that dream is, and if it is scary to be open and say, tell your Heavenly Father, and ask Our Lady for the courage to trust her Son Jesus. They know you and want to lead you into the freedom and fullness of life you were created for. If that life is meant to include this man, then God will show you that.
I remember coming to a place where I realized that I loved this girl, and yet knew that God was asking me to let her go. What i realized was that if I truly loved her, and wanted the best for her, then the best and most loving thing I could do was to obey God's call and trust that He had someone else for her - which he did. Not easy, I know, but real love always means a real death to ourselves for the good of the other. The greatest gift of love we can make to our family, friends, the world, is to become a saint! Which simply means to do the will of the Father.

What a lot to take in! Why did Brother Malachi become a brother and not a priest?
Thank you and may God continue to bless you and to bless us through you. 🙏💖

I think he might be studying to be a priest...Father Mark Mary started doing these videos as Brother Mark Mary. I think they take a long time to become priests...

Members of religious communities often take a very long time to become priests, like 11 years sometimes. I think he is in formation to become a priest!

They have professed brothers and priests. It's not clear as to if br malachi is in seminary, but it's clear that he's where God needs him to be.

Br. Malachy is a seminarian. Some of the friars remain religious brothers and some go on for further studies in pursuit of being ordained priests. Br. Malachy's on the "priest track." Keep him in prayer!

Making a holy hour is easy when you do a rosary, some meditation or special prayers at hand. But try going in the Adoration Chapel without all these “helps” and take in the silence and thoughts and simply listen and stop your petitions and praying. Just be there with God. Now that’s difficult. But I bet, that hour would be the most gratifying.

It's a sign of deep spiritual progress. Try and find the closest 24/7 adoration chapel near you and set aside a time each week that you feel called to, i find that the 11pm-2am slot is the most peaceful. Over time adoration will not be difficult but celestial

You guys are so awesome at what you do. You are very inspiring to a lot of people. It is so beautiful to see the love you have for our Father. I know this may sound weird to a lot of people but I can tell you I was very surprised when I finally got the answer I had been looking for. Mark Twain has a quote abt this “The two most important days in your life 1 being the day you were born. And 2 the day you learn why.” Well I was quite shocked when I got my answer. I got the answer has always been in my name (meaning my name). Let me tell you having God explain your whole life physical and spiritual at the same time is overwhelming and at some points down right exhausting. I have always been a dreamer of holy and sadly unholy things those used to scare me something awe full. I also when I was 6 ya old . I have met my guardian angel when I was playing. He has been with me from then on (poor thing) . Seriously though I should have dead at a min of 37 times in my life one being actually plowing right through a house. And the man that came and got me said “That was the weirdest accident I’ve ever seen. He told me when I hit the curb I should have crashed into a tree and a pole which would have killed me . But instead the car when airborne and slid to the right for me to go right through the house instead. Police have the tire tracks to prove that as well.” All I remember was passing out coming up to a stop sign couldn’t stop yelling out for St. Michael and passed out again. A lot more things happened during the accident as well to long to type here. Now here is the weirder thing was that same man that rescued me wound up dying on his way to the hospital the next week. Hitting a pole and a tree. Same day and hour I would have died the week before. But when I got the answer I got was in my name meaning which the most common one is “Warrior, Gift from God, Son of a carpenter. Now there were many years between the accident and getting the answer. Needless to say I freaked out. And yes they put me in the phyc ward I have been on no kidding every med that is made that took and still takes a lot out of me. However docs say that my story has never changed over the past 13 years. Sometimes I wish it could but just like you guys I am here to our Fathers will. What ever it may be. Keep up the great work thank you and God Bless
