My favorite part of the entire video was the smile on the guy's face in white when he got up. He clearly admired and appreciated how swiftly he had been taken out. That's just awesome sportsmanship and what this is or should be all about. My second favorite part is all the martial arts experts on here talking about "if this had been a real fight blah blah blah..." well it wasn't and I'd be willing to bet that kids who are that disciplined are the most likely to walk away from a fight before it ever happens.

I'd argue that the kid knows the technique, but may not know of the full consequences of this technique; where in the jump, he may end up knocking himself out or worse, breaking his own neck. That is, if someone more experienced knows of this and move quickly to slam him down rather than resist going down, the kid could end up crushing his neck and head. It only takes a more advanced opponent to apply a more destructive counter move.

loved practicing these with my son. Until the day I saw the poor young man snap his neck doing a flying arm BAR, he is now a paraplegic. Although they look awesome please be safe doing jumping subs with these kids.
@@Demoncleanerrr i don't know if he meant he saw this in person, but I've seen it on the internet. flying submissions are dangerous, especially if you're a white or an orange belt etc. all it takes is being off by one inch (and the other guy is moving unpredictably too), and you can snap a vertebrae. if you're a pro fighting for some big fat prizes and titles, take the risk. if that's a local tournament in the already-not-a-newbie category, it's not worth it. it still looks cool ofc

In reality, doing that - he would get lifted and smacked into the ground :D - some of these moves are cool, but they would put you in a position where you would 100% loose
I know it's heat of the moment and hard to do everything right, but he should've tapped the leg of the person doing the armbar. If that's not possible, slam the mat rapidly so hard that the opponent can clearly hear it above all the noise, and also shout "TAP". It is super dangerous to lightly tap the ground like that when the opponent can't even see he's tapping, and be at the mercy of the ref's reaction time
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed him falling onto his neck. I always wondered if there was supposed to be a way to avoid that when doing a FLYING armbar, or if it's something only recommended in a tournament setting.
I think what he was trying to do was take down his opponent flat on the ground land land flat on top of his arm as he did that arm bar, and he wouldn’t have landed almost in the fetal position on his head. He just didn’t throw himself with enough force.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed him falling onto his neck. I always wondered if there was supposed to be a way to avoid that when doing a FLYING armbar, or if it's something only recommended in a tournament setting.
Never done a class of self defence but stuff like this has to be respected.

I think what he was trying to do was take down his opponent flat on the ground land land flat on top of his arm as he did that arm bar, and he wouldn’t have landed almost in the fetal position on his head. He just didn’t throw himself with enough force.

I’m surprised he was able to do this in a tournament considering most tournaments don’t allow flying submissions and will disqualify you
@@LosHitman I'm not too sure never really looked into the rules, but I imagine it can be dangerous for everyone involved.
@@jonny11995 yeah. On a seperate occasion during a women’s no-gi grappling tournament, one tried a flying guard but ended up tearing both of her opponent’s ACLs. Most flying techniques are banned in major competitions.

I've never heard of a *flying*arm bar but I'm very impressed that he managed to pull it off without immediately damaging that guy's shoulder. Cuz, you know...shoulders don't really heal right
