    Important note: you MUST engage the viewfinder pin with the lens aperture "fork". You visibly oversaw that step, totally disabling the exposure metering. You meter behaved as if you were at f22 all the time, regardless of your actual aperture.

    Use to have one, it was broken most of the time, so brought it back to the shop. But when it worked it did very well.

    I have and love the 645 1000s, even though it's a heavy bugger. I thought about upgrading to the Super for the interchangeable backs, but I've been put off by reading numerous reports if the cheap plastic mirror stop failing/breaking, which appears to be unrepairable. To me, that's an Achilles heel and a deal breaker.

    • @jonolaba
      @jonolaba 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew, I have the 1000s and the super, both great cameras. Regarding the cheap plastic piece, there's no stock available but I found a 3D printable design online so you can print your own. Check jaredlichtenbergerphoto's blog. Hope this can help you.

    I have the Pro with manual wind crank and waist level fiinder. it's super portable and lightweight in this configuration. You''ll be hard pushed to find a better 645 camera in my opinion. beautifully sharp lenses and lovely camera to shoot. getting more expensive to buy these days too. i have carried out several repairs on this model and documented it on my channel. One camera i would never sell. I'm taking it to the grave!

    The all metal Sekor C 80 2.8 shown in the video is the very first 1974 model the was not great at 2.8 and 4. The 645 Super was launched in 1986 with the way better plastic Sekor C 80m2.8 N with a modified glass brand for one of the elements. This improvement gave for the N model at f:4 the same sharpness as the original model at 5.6
    The much sharper Sekor C 80 mm is the f:4 Macro that is a beast. Even today I often use it on my digital Hasselblad X cameras.

    Every 20 year old in Brooklyn NY thinks this with a roll of Portra is what normal people shot in the 80s and 90s. They don't realize normal people were on an Olympus Mju or a Nikon F at Disney World loaded with Kodak Gold 200...

    Is the Prism lupe a big help for focusing? Can you frame with it? I just got system and I'm thinking nailing focus with the 80mm 1.9 will be one hell of a challenge..

    • @jean-claudemuller3199
      @jean-claudemuller3199 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Focusing with the prism finder with the 645 super was never a problem for me even with the Sekor 300mm 5.6.
      The 645 Super viewfinder is about 1 stop brighter than the 645 1000S (stopping down the super 1 stop gives the same viewfinder brightness than the 1000S at full aperture)

    Curious to hear what you think of the 6x4.5 format. Is it not enough of a step up from 35mm resolution and better to go for 6x7?

    • @MAMAYAYALALARARA
      @MAMAYAYALALARARA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're coming from 35mm any form of medium format will be a step up. 6x4.5 is the smallest of the medium formats, however, it will still blow the rendition, resolution, and dynamic range of 35mm film out of the water.

      no the super is totaly different from the older modells, the only parts that work on both are lenses and film inserts, but screens, prisms, drive, shutter are completely different.
      For example older M645's have vertical curtains with single coil control, the Super has horizontal curtains with double coil control

    This camera has one of the most reliable meetering systems I've ever used. (the same exists also for the RZ66)
    In Auto AS meetering mode, the camera compares in real time spot and average figures. Depending on the contrast ratio the meter chooses between 3 solutions.
    with a low contrast scene it chooses Average meetering and shows it in the viewfinder by lighting the A symbol
    with a medium contrast scene it computes a mean Average/Spot value and shows the A and S symbols in the viewfinder
    with a high contrast scene it chooses Spot meetering and shows S in the viewfinder
    Using it, you point the center of the viewfinder on the main subject, lock the meetering by pressing halfway the release button and recompose.
