  • He was an atheist, and now he is Fr. Lazarus ELAnthony, a hermit coming from Australia to live in St. Anthony's Monastery in the deserts of the Red Sea, Egypt.
    Fr. Lazarus is telling the details of his trip to the Coptic orthodox faith in Monk's life series.
    His mother's death due to cancer pushed him to look to life from a different perspective; he read a book for a monk called Thomas Merton where he found the same circumstances. So, he decided to go to a monastery and be a monk, he went to an orthodox monastery in Russia, and while he was making a matanoya for St. Mary, he heard a voice talking to him saying;" I'll be you mother. " And she repeated it again saying:" you mother has dead, but I'll be your mother."
    He asked about St. Mary and knew a lot about her, then he decided to be baptized in the Coptic Orthodox Church.
    And now he is a hermit in a cave near to St. Anthony's Monastery in Egypt for over 14 years ago.

    What an interesting story of conversion. He was an atheist with a Protestant background, and his mother was a suporter of the Catholic Church. And he converted after the death of his mother trought writings of Thomas Merton catholic monk, in Serbian-Ortodox monastery, and finally he became an anchorit in Coptic Ortodox Church (and Blessed Virgin, our Holy Mother Mary was with him trought all this way to the Son of God, her only Son). He is in a true sense Catholicos, in some way all of christian churces and comunities somehow influenced his way to Jesus Christ, to the Church. Greetings from Croatia, from one Catholic. It's a beautiful story. God works in mysterious ways, indeed. (I apologize for my awful knowledge of english)

    I'm not very religious in the sense of monotheism, more of an omnithiest as I think every text and expanding your knowledge on spirituality is the highest form of enlightenment, I'm glad to finally see an example of a good christian in this day and age.

    @cuttlefisch Coptic Orthodox is still orthodox. The Copts were misunderstood at the council of Chalcedon. The Copts with other oriental churches and the eastern orthodox church believe in the same thing, just expressed differently. The Oriental Orthodox used St Cyrill of Alexandrias methiod of looking at the natures of Jesus, and The Eastern othrodox church used the council of chalcedon

    This is really good stuff, please translate it to spanish or at least tell me how to do the captioning, is not too often listen about Marx, Freud, Poe or Byron, given them their right place an not being excomulgated by Rome, my regards in Jesus to fr.Lazarus, Jose Luis

    I have a question: if he went to a monastery in Russia why did he become a Copt instead of a mainstream Orthodox Christian?

      The Coptic church is the church of Alexandria, the church of Saint Athanasius the one who protected the faith and the foundation for monasticism and FYI, the title of Pope was held by the patriarch of the church of Alexandria ~250 years before Rome

      Jesus himself spoke against Mantras:
      "But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking."
      "And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words."
      "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words."

    • @burnthewitch1431
      @burnthewitch1431 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holy Eitr i think you misunderstood: vain is the keyword here. like about me me me what i want and ego.might want to research this more. Jesus prayer is to draw the mind in to a trance ...to draw you in to a meditation and communion with God. if you give it a try you will see it's extremely powerful deep prayer. Monks use this alot from all traditions. And the Rosary is the most effective weapon against the devil. if it doesn't work for you then don't use it - simple. no need to criticize their ways because they're different....many paths to God.

    If Anthony was born and raised in Australia, why does he talk like someone whose second language is English? It feels "put on".
