    I run the facebook group for NINA. I requested and have been updated with horizon lines in NINA now. So I can say "wait until target it above MY horizon" and it will wait until i appears above the tree line. Best feature to be added in a long time.

    Nice. Enjoy your videos. With the new 1.11 sequencer you can start/stop imaging on specific events or conditions e.g. don't start sequence until target reaches 35° az or not until 20:30. Then loop until target drops beneath xx degrees etc. I think you'll find it really helps with your challenging horizon. Like everyone has mentioned, yourself included, the new sequencer is a really powerful, but with great power comes ... well, moderate complexity. 😂 I'm obviously a huge NINA fanboy, not Cuiv huge, but I'm convinced it's the most powerful/flexible astro capture package around, especially for the price (free). Also if you have a rotator (or even if you do not), the framing tool is really neat. You'll get there. Clear skies!

      Thanks Chris. Good to know it is not that hard. I will update it, it is just a matter of when. Actually I use the framing tool to for reconnaissance purposes currently as I don't have a rotator. This is a fabulous program. I am just enjoying the simplicity right now.

    Great video Kurt. Like you, I use N.I.N.A. for autofocus routine and then APT for everything else, but it is good to see you have a successful session using one program. I may try N.I.N.A. in the summer when I have more clear skies and I look forward to your updates. One thing I noticed, completely unrelated, is that your custom landscape has that gap between where it starts and ends. You can fix that by adding one more row at the end of your text file that has the same value as the first line. This will "attach" the red line you have and get rid of that gap. Cheers

      Thanks Robert, APT has a new autofocus but I don't how good it is yet. I know attaching the line can be done easily if you know what you are doing in Photoshop. I am decent with processing images but for some reason I have the hardest time drawing lines. I need to take a course or have someone standing over my shoulder telling me to press this button. - Cheers Kurt

    I've been using NINA for only a week and i'm very very impressed... the AF routine is a doddle, ASTAP is super fast, flipping ..just works and the sequencer is childs-play. the only issues are with getting nina to stop and start phd2 around flipping...maybe i've just overlooked a slider somewhere,.. great video Kurt and yes, multi=star guiding is massive improvement

    • @AstroQuest1

      Thanks. I have been very impressed with this program. Yeah there is probably some button that needs to be pressed somewhere along the way. You might want to make a comment on Cuiv's youtube channel. He is pretty good at diagnosing problems. - Good Luck

    Great video.
    At 8:30 ish you reset the sequence and change the image count to 21.
    You could have just pressed the play button. It would have continued from where it was. At 19th of 40 images.
    So it would have taken 21 images to finish the sequence.
    Anyway hope you enjoy NINA.
    Once you've gotten more used to it, you might want to do a video on which things you like more in Nina and which things you like more in Apt.
    Thanks for the video, Cheers.

    Great video Kurt! Beautiful M1, I downloaded the new PHD2 back in January not had a chance to use it yet due to terrible weather conditions here in the UK.
    Hopefully will get a chance to use both N.I.N.A and PHD2 soon.

    Nina beta version 1.11 is awesome. I have used it since it came out and have had no issues. You're right that it is more complex but once you get used to it, you can't go back. PHD2 multi star guiding is great . Thanks for great video.

    thanks for the video and info, i got started because i've always loved astronomy and i recently found an Orion 8" newtonian on a Sirius EQ-G mount for a steal of a price at Goodwill...whoohoo!!!
    maybe you could do a video breakdown of all your gear and putting it all together sometime, thanks :)

      Thanks Katie. That was my first package deal - 8" Newtonian with the Sirius Mount. I then got a smaller scope for imaging. Good idea doing a breakdown of all my equipment. - Good Luck

    After very accurate PA with EQ mount (connected via EQMOD) in NINA, when I slew to an object, the scope is way off (40+ degrees). Why by so much? Coordinates will be off from then on when slewing to other targets, as Slew and Center does not re-set coordinates to be accurate. Will NINA, when i center and slew, track with the object centered, or track based on the faulty Alt/Az?

    • @AstroQuest1
      @AstroQuest1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, sounds something is not set right. Maybe the initial coordinates - right hemisphere - correct date? So it does not plate solve? I would check the initial settings again because I have had issues after windows updates where things have to be reset. You might want to post this on the NINA discord or FB page. Good Luck

  • @deeber35
    @deeber35 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have the Sky Watcher AZ-GTi mount in EQ mode. Can it track with a 400mm lens on a crop sensor without auto-guiding? I've had success at 300mm.

    • @AstroQuest1
      @AstroQuest1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. The answer is yes but it depends on how long each individual exposure is and the only way to know that is with experimentation. Is it a 30-second exposure or 3-minute exposure. Good luck.

    • @deeber35
      @deeber35 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AstroQuest1 I don't have the gear yet, which is why I am asking so I know what can be done. Looking for 30-60 second exposures. I'm getting good 60 second exposure with the 300mm lens.

    I see you are using EQMod with Stellarium. How does that work out?

    • @AstroQuest1
      @AstroQuest1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I use it, it works great although I run Stellarium through Stellariumscope. Supposedly you no longer need to.

    Great video!! Even besides of NINA usage I saw something that I didn't knew it was possible in Stellarium. How do you manage to draw a polygon to determine your field of view?

    Excellent video as always Kurt! I've been debating on switching from APT to N.I.N.A and your last couple of videos convinced me to take the plunge. The weather has been crap here lately so I've been relegated to viewing (and re-viewing) Cuiv's videos to absorb everything I can before heading outside. One question - with APT I would initially slew to a bright star (after polar alignment) to do essentially a one-star alignment before slewing to my target for the night. I haven't seen either you or Cuiv do this with NINA. Is it necessary (or even possible) to select an alignment star with NINA? or should I just select my imaging target and go from there? Any thoughts/advice appreciated!

    • @AstroQuest1
      @AstroQuest1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, the answer is yes and no. The plate solving does it automatically. My scope is already somewhat aligned in the shed so no need - just plate solve and let it do its thing. After you polar align, you may not need to do any alignment.

  • @AG-vk9gq
    @AG-vk9gq 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Great video as always.....when you initially slew to the target how does it centre and frame the target without platesolving for instance?.is that something you do before using Nina or did I miss something?

    • @AstroQuest1
      @AstroQuest1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Antoni, The plate solving was part of the sequence right after it slews to the object. I really did show everything NINA. I put tutorial links from Cuiv that go over that into the description. - Cheers

    Does NINA starts up multi star guiding in PHD2? You have autofocusing for > 20% deviation. Is it >20% for one frame or several?
    Thanks

    • @AstroQuest1
      @AstroQuest1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ana, Good questions. Yes NINA starts up the the multi star guiding and the 20% increase is based on the linear regression of the whole night. (th-cam.com/video/7Vu_Ye-zb5w/w-d-xo.html)
