Love this!!!! I’m actually writing a children’s book about diversity as well, my son is biracial Australian-African American and I want to give him more books about himself and others who arnt represented in kids book as much
Thank you for this video! I LOVE reading and reading with my kiddos also so I’m always looking for new books, especially featuring people of color. I do some read alongs on my channel as well and my son is turning two this month so I’d really like to get him some books that show other Black little boys. I will definitely be checking out the ones you recommended🤗!
I am a pediatric OTA who works in an area with predominantly white clients (0-5y/o) (some of whom have gone to Trump rallies), and I recently decided that when the kiddos graduate I plan on giving them a book. I would like that book to feature a POC doing things the kiddo also likes. I feel like there are parents who would be opposed or take offense to a book specifically about colorism or racism, but they will be less likely to give push back and maybe even read a book to their kiddo that centers a children of color who is having to learn how to do hard things, learning to potty, learning colors/shapes/numbers, sharing, becoming a scientist, fire fighter...ect. I believe that reading/watching/listening to marginalized groups helps to broaden your perspective even if it is not on the topic of the how/why that group is marginalized. Even if the parent never read the book to the child, I would still be purchasing a book from a person of color. I am having a difficult time finding books like this, though. Where do I need to look? I would really like to avoid amazon or usborn if possible.
I was able to find a locally owned children's book store (Hippocampo Books) and they could special order books for me. I bet you could find somewhere like that near you! I did some searching online for reviews of books in this area and that was pretty helpful.
You are incredible! Love this mission!! In a quick search on mahoganybooks.com they do have books similar to the topics you have described as well. I'm not sure if you have checked them out or not, but worth a search! Xx
@@emilyspecter9532 I love the idea of having them order it for me. The closest black-owned book store is pretty far away, so I would need to have them ship it. I will send them an e-mail. Thank you for the suggestion.
I found 4-5 that I think I want to get. I am going to do some more reviewing of the books. Even if the books come and they are not what I was expecting and I am not able to find a good fit for the book in one of my client's within a year, I think a local library would probably appreciate a donation.
I agree on your assessment of the Antiracist Baby. It felt like it was written for adults who were already woke about racism, not really for kids. Some books I really like that I got recently that are pro diversity/anti-racism/written by BIPOC are Fry Bread by Kevin Noble Maillard (written by an American Indian about family), Click Clack Moo Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin (about workers rights and unionizing and so cute!), Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao by Kat Zhang (written by an Asian author), and Thunder Rose by Kadir Nelson (it's about a strong little black girl just doing strong stuff. I love this one because not every anti racism story needs to be about overcoming some racist challenge).
I love this!! Thank you SO much for this list. I will definitely be exploring your recommendations. Love love love your last sentiment about not every anti racism story needs to be about overcoming a racial challenge! XX

Kids OT Help absolutely!! I’d appreciate that so much, your videos have helped me so much with my baby!
I appreciate your honesty in your critiques. Very helpful.
I agree! Now I know to steer clear of those other two 😬!

I am a preschool teacher and I simply read books that have diverse characters, rather than books about diversity. Kids are naturally anti racist!
Any recommended books for Asians?
Great question! I will keep my eyes out!
