I can't really understand but the way you do your videos and your characteristics are so entertaining, and really a lot more enjoyable to watch than sooo many other TH-camrs. You are unique. Stay that way. Never change my man, cos the way you ask for your Subscribers and Likes and Patreons will get you much more than many of the "TH-cam giants." Great video, can't WAIT for the next one!!!!!!
Not an expert, but I'm pretty sure the ants at 7:00 are cleaning each other. They don't have sponges or little ant-sized bathtubs, so they lick themselves and others like cats to clean up. What, precisely, got them feeling dirty enough to do that in a big ball is beyond me, though. Maybe it was the likes begging immediately beforehand? :V
Ant expert here, from my very detailed observations and year long experience as an Antist, I can most definately say, yes, your ants are licking each other
Don't they just love being covered in mucus 24/7? It's disinfectant, they don't dry out and they clean themselves and each other. I read The Empire of the Ants in mid-school, I know what I'm talking about 😆
they are cleaning themselves and each other because fungus grows on them then will kill them and that's why they clean each other and they also clean there mandibles/antennas because that's how they get around the nest and communicate with the other ants of the colony and it has some sort of pheromone that produces something to tell that they are from that colony so that's why they do what they was doing they was cleaning themselves.
I love your dry wit and sarcasm! The videos are also very educational as well as entertaining, so please keep up the great work! You’re quite possibly the most underrated TH-camr on the platform.
8:10 since those hoses usually hang 5mm in the air I put a small sloped rock 'ramp' right in front. I also used a bit of hot glue to secure the hose inside and outside (just half a circle so it keepts the hose from slipping further in/out ruining my ramp) It helps ants greatly to bring stuff home AND if you want to limit the size of food being brought home you can make the ramp tall enough to cover 50% of the entrance. Mine tried bringingback entire crickets but couldn't fit it - so they ad to take it apart/eat it outside. It can help with nests being a bit cleaner overall.
You have a lovely colony of ants. To me they are a species that cooperates and coordinates extremely well with each other. And I own about 20 ant colonies of all kinds from other countries. It's really wonderful to see them
Its been so nice to see this colony grow over the last year, and it even inspired me to buy my own! they died in hibernation but that might just be a skill issue
Tip for next time putting the tube in: If you put the tube in hot water the tube becomes very flexible and it’s easier to put it in. Love the video’s btw
I have to say, after watching most of your videos, I have a new view on ants! I sit outside and watch them sometimes as they're really quite interesting! Thank you, sir!
I think you should call your first child William Joseph James Robert... that way you can shorten it to 'Billy-Joe Jim-Bob' 👍 Good luck with that though, I tried it with my wife, and after the happy event she told me she was glad we'd had a girl 🤣
Another ant expert here, from watching a few seconds of the the scene in your video, yes I can confirm that your ants are licking each other. It is to clean each other.
Jesus Christ I love these types of videos I just woke up in decided I would watch this video in I’m at 2:34 this video is fire so far in I like how your voice isn’t like the other people’s voice you just sound laid back chilled
I was about to despair of Bob making an appearance but then BAM! there (s)he was. I think that without Bob the whole move would have been a complete failure. The ants should elect Bob to be queen. Or king. Or dogcatcher. Whichever. Now that the move is done, can I have the old tube to live in?
"How intriguing! 🐜✨ Watching your pet ants move their nest must be quite a fascinating process. It's amazing to see their industrious nature and how they adapt to new surroundings. 🏡🔍"
After binging 13 of your videos in a row to catch up with everything you've posted, I'm sad and disappointed because now I have to wait for DAYS to hear your highly torpid vocal deliverance of some of the most execrable humor ever delivered!
Once I wanted to know what species of poppy is used in the kitchen for bread with poppy seeds or cake with poppy sugar mass. So I bought a packet of seed from the supermarket and at the time I had a whole bed of open fluffy soil so I just threw the whole 250 grams of poppy seeds in there. Didn't water the seed down, decided weather would do it anyway. Some hours later of no rain I noticed an ant trail on my terrace which led under a flower pot. Underneath the flower pot there was the same amount of poppy seed that I had thrown out earlier. Needless to say that I didn't get a single poppy plant that spring. They missed not a single seed. I still don't know what poppy species is used in the kitchen. Seed collecting ants are very cool, I was very impressed.
I’m pretty sure they are cleaning each other. Ants have to constantly do this to themselves and others to stop diseases or parasites that can spread extremely quickly in their crowded lives or to stop infections.
5:10 spit works for both those problems... And breaking the edge with a knife can also help greatly to make a good fit. 45° once all around. I heard people do that on their other hoses too but that's not for me :D
What the heck??? I thought this amazing channel went inactive or something, as for some reason i didn't get notifications for the last half dozen videos or so! Glad i checked, and imagine my delight of a mini back-categpry to work through on my day off work! 😃 BOB FOR LIFE! 🐜
Idk if it's my phone, or utoob, or what...but this is like the 3rd or 4th time it's happened to a channel I sub to with all notifs on. I've seen other comments saying similar stuff though, so maybe a utoob glitch or somethin'. 🤷♂️ Anyway, glad you didn't leave! Stay well. 🐜
Also, those workers ants in your video with a really big head that you called soldier ants, they are supermajor ants. The colony's primary jaw force and muscle.
7:13 they are cleaning eachother and inspecting eachother for wounds and infections if say an ants leg is deemed infected one of her sisters will amputate it the ant herself doesnt even seem to mind also your nest may be abit big and they may make a garbage dump inside the nest
No ant expert here but I think it's possible they are licking each other to exchange the scent each gathered on their bodies from the new nest to decide if there is anything spooky in the new nest or not. I imagine it like "I rounded that corner and it smelled a bit off but I couldn't detect a real threat, what do you think about the smell that was a bit off? And what do we think about that new space as a group after throwing all our collected scents together?" They do group think and so I can imagine that at some point they have to gather and pass on information to the others. Bees dance, maybe ants lick each other? I mean, these ants were all scouts of the new territory, right. Before the decision to move the whole nest. I know that other species for food sources they just mark the trail with pheromones and the more ants walk the path to food the more strong the scent trail gets and after a while all ants walk that one path. But I don't know how moving nest gets decided and maybe scouts gather and lick each other before taking the huge risk of moving all their larvae and queen?
Yes that is one part and also the ants saliva is antibacterial. I knew I read that somewhere but forgot about it. I remebered it because someone commented it 😁
Could you add a little stone above the tube between the terrarium and the new nest so ants don't struggle that much to go into the nest ? I think Bob would apreciate it

An antist is not a thing that’s not what someone who study’s ants are called it’s call a myrmecologist the study of ants
@@AidenHaigh-nf7zi the difference between an amateur and a professional is that a pro gets paid, and my man technically got paid for cleaning poop 😜

Thank you, really needed an expert for this
mhm so professional
yup, ants groom their nestmates like that.
Don't they just love being covered in mucus 24/7?
It's disinfectant, they don't dry out and they clean themselves and each other. I read The Empire of the Ants in mid-school, I know what I'm talking about 😆
I thought Antism was eradicated after WWII?
they are cleaning themselves and each other because fungus grows on them then will kill them and that's why they clean each other and they also clean there mandibles/antennas because that's how they get around the nest and communicate with the other ants of the colony and it has some sort of pheromone that produces something to tell that they are from that colony so that's why they do what they was doing they was cleaning themselves.
Yeah but they were doing it more in the new nest than in the old one
@@HomemadeEcosystems You literally made for them a Red Light District... No wonder they lick each other a little bit more.
