I'm not to sure iv never worked one with a roller but the plate works well is seams to put the stone in better and reduces the rutting from the dumpers which makes the final grading easy I would say once you start using one you won't want to go back to a bucket

ye it dose work well even when this was as dug rock and was unregulated it also made the surfs better to compact

But come to think of it the rear plate allows you to throw materials back you would lose that with the roller
