Well done John on a year of hooks. Your friendly manner and the way you explain what you are doing so well make your videos a joy to watch. I can't wait to get out to my blacksmith shop and make something. You are truly inspiring.
I've really enjoyed the Hook of the Week series, especially your imaginative processes to make so many different types and styles of hooks from the scrap bucket. I enjoy all of your videos John. Can't wait for your next projects. Thank you very much. Always educational, informative and interesting.
I’m sorry to hear that this is the last hook of the week, they will be missed, but I also look forward to seeing what sort of other entertaining and informative project you decide to share. Thank you for all the instruction and inspiration!
What a wonderful end to one of the best blacksmith series on TH-cam ever! I have enjoyed each and every hook and it has been a big part of my Sunday routine. Your outstanding artistry, creativity, and easy to follow instruction sets your videos apart (and well above) from the pack. I admire that you have been doing this for a long time and you are still inspired to try new things and always striving to improve. Thank you for all you do and I look forward to the next series!
Like many people I am now anxiously waiting to see what new projects will take the place of this old and comfortable friend. I guess you could say you left us on tenterhooks John.
How Awesome would it be to watch along on a great hinge?!?!?! Would be a most impressive addition on the door entering your smithy IMHO. Something you would be proud to see every day as you go to work. Or at least i would if i had an actual smithy. Sorry if i said to much. Thanks for sharing the hook of the week it was an amazing experience. 🙏 Blessings to you sir Crawford out ⚒️🧙♂️
I appreciate your honesty about the "OOPS" moments. Too many chanels, in every craft, edit their videos to make it look as though they never mess up. On this hook, great to wrap the series with a more decorative hook. The only thing I might do different, when my skill progresses to being able to do a similar hook, would be to split the hook end into two hooks. This would make it a five-point piece. And would make it a wanted piece to the Wicken community as well as those who just love decorative "iron" work. As is, it could be manuvered to a more Christian cross shaped piece. So many ideas, too little time and funding. Heck, I have not even had the opportunity to build/aquire the most basic of blacksmithing forge set ups. This is definitely something I would like to try and have a go at. Luckily, if I ever do get started even as a hobby, I have channels like yours to fall back on for instruction and ideas. Thanks. P.S. I can't wait to see what you do next to fill this spot in your schedule.
Thomas, good day Sir, Crawford here. If i may, the most basic and easily obtained forge would be a dirt box forge. Pretty basic and fairly rudimentary. On a raised platform one could start with a recycled pallet or 2x6s. Some dirt of the surrounding area. A peice of non galvanized pipe or pipe with the galvanized layer stripped off in vinegar. And lastly a hair dryer or vacume cleaner or even simple hand bellows made from 2 boards and the leg of a pair of old blue jeans, perfurably waxed plus a piece of rubber type material say from a bicycle innertube as a flapper to draw air in the intake hole and seal to push out the spout. Nuttin fancy "Has" to be done to get fire. Lump charcoal from Walmart or a place that sells it in your area. Any smooth faced hammer will move steel and something rigid to hit said steel on. It does not "have" to be an Anvil!! ( My 1st project was done on a 6x8in piece of 3/16" plate laid on table) drew out 3/8"round into fish tail and scrolled it up to make a hook! No punch so i rounded the end into an eye for a bolt. Hey it worked. Check out Island Metal Forge Yamez details a dirt forge and details it pretty dang well. 🙏 Blessed days now Crawford out ⚒️🧙♂️
I've just achieved my first forge weld. I know this isn't a big deal for experienced smiths but right now this piece of recycled scrap metal is my most valued possession. Thank you for all you help and advice, you are a legend. 👍🥃🇦🇺
As we do the hooks seems we learn many steps that can be used for other projects but I trust you are still teaching Blacksmith skils and that draws me back Sir. Always great learning from you and helping me ( others to) to be safe. Thanks to you John Switzer
Great job John, turned out great. Lots of great information in your video today! Really enjoy watching you and your content. Thanks for sharing with us, Fred.
I was actually kinda sad to hear the hook series was over. I love functional art and hooks are a favorite of mine. I appreciate and thank you for the series.
A couple of things... First thing, I really appreciate all the hooks. Gave me good ideas! Second, I like how you showed the ooops. Blacksmiths are always learning & refining... Thanks for the great videos you make!
Sad to hear it's the last hook of the week. As a very new, inexperienced smith are your calm and simple instructions very helpfull! Greetings from Sweden!
That's a really nice hook John! While it is a bit sad that the hook of the week series is over, it will be exciting to see what projects you come up with next, and I am looking forward to it!
Thank you John for this series of hook of the week, it has been the most inspiring of all the videos i have watched. Said to see it go but whatever you do i know will be just as inspiring . And John a big thanks for the rights + wrongs and oops, it made me feel a bit better known that even the best can make mistakes maybe not as much as me but . cheers.
Your hook of the week sure hooked me. I have learned so much from them and am very grateful for your teaching. You are quite appreciated. PS. Thanks for showing your screwups too.
Much delight in how you clearly showed through this imaginative series that offcuts don't belong in waste. Made me feel better about my inability to throw anything out. The Devils Blacksmith Project is very inspiring.
It's a sad day. I'll miss the hook of the week but am always ready to see what you're doing in the shop! Great hook for the last of the series. Thanks for sharing!👍⚒️
Thank you so much for all the work you put into the videos, one of the things I love is tgat you show when stuff goes wrong...it gives tje rest of us hope!!! Stay well
John, thank you so much for this series I'm sad to see them end.. I now know why I kept those buckets of treasures all this time. You are such a great inspiration to me and others. Stay Safe
That was a brilliant hook to finish off the series. I think I'm going to miss the weekly hook, but I look forward to all of your video's as there's always new things to learn. I'm really looking forward to a lit of forge welding though 👍
I always enjoy your videos and find them easy to follow and understand. The presentation is quite good indeed. I'm sad that hook of the week is over, but I understand that you need to do what's right for you and your family and home. It's not easy to juggle 2 channels, home life and run a business. Stay safe and I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you John 🙏
A good way to finish the series. I wish my parents still lived in their castle. I'd have them commission you to do decorative work. When the house was built in 1928 they had a forge set up in the courtyard for all the hinges, latches, and other iron work. Google Hume Cloister in Berkeley California. Sadly I never lived there.
Thank you John for the HOTW series. I have learned a lot and have used some of your ideas from HOTW on quite a few different projects that had nothing to do with hooks. I will miss HOTW, but look forward to whatever is next. Again, Thank You.
Sure hope you continue on a schedule as its a welcome surprise every sunday and wednesday looked forward to here. Showing mistakes and repairs/corrections are informative.
John I have thoroughly enjoyed the hook of the week series. You are a great source of inspiration. The manner in which you instruct is comprehensive yet easy to comprehend. Looking forward to what may be ahead.
Sorry to see the hook of the week series come to an end. I cannot wait for the next series. You are very inspirational in the art of blacksmithing and learning in general. Thank you for what you do. I already cannot wait for the next video.
Great series, John! I have learned so much watching you and taking the concepts to my shop to make them my own. I refer back to many of these fine videos for clarification and inspiration. I can't thank you enough! Stay safe and healthy!
That was a good way to end the series. Great hook! I will miss my Sunday morning hooks but Life Goes On and we will continue to watch whatever you put out
Thank you for the videos that you make. Watching and listening to you has taught me quite a bit. I just did my first forging. I made a railroad spike knife. I had the spike around, and I was itching to make something. I used a brake rotor, galvanized pipe, a floor connector( to attach them together), and a hair dryer. I used hardwood charcoal for fuel. The knife came out ok considering that I don't have tongs and it was my first project. Thanks again. Geoff
They say all good things must come to an end. As sad as I am to see this series wrap up, I am looking forward to see what you progress towards to next. As I have said before, if you make it, we will watch it.
I really enjoy watching your channel, l am just a beginner Smith and don't get to the forge as much as l would like. Mostly because of the fact that l retired a year ago a d had a long list of projects. Last summer l built a 14 x16 blacksmith shop so the could get all the smithing tools out of my machine- wood working - welding- car repair shop. Just keep doing what you're doing, l personally love it.
I have watched every HOTW and learned from them all. Even made many of them! Your HOTW series has been an invaluable forum for me to learn from, and you have my eternal gratitude for taking the time to do this series.
There were a lot of great hooks, but yeah, I like the decoritive elements, the welding, and the hook itself most of all the hooks. Great finally hook, for sure.
Going to miss the hook of the week. I really like some of the different camera angles you are using in this video. Gives it a whole different perspective on the task at hand.
Congratulations sir!! A remarkable series of your work is complete. It's sad mostly because the regularity of your videos that the Hook series brought is now over. But, really looking forward to your new work and style. Exciting times!!! Thank you, thank you sir!!
really enjoyed the hook of the week series great hook to end with and im looking forward to more great videos learning a lot with each vid thanks for sharing all your knowledge and stay well
Made my first hook from your series just yesterday. Sad to see that the series is coming to an end but a goal now that I'll be able to work my way through the whole series and make the lot. This is an excellent resource and I'd love to see other themed playlists in a similar style over the coming years.
I enjoyed the hook of the week, which was originally started to make use of a bucket of odds n ends that otherwise would've been scrapped! As with all good things one must end to make room for more, waiting to see what else John has in mind for us to learn from...
What a Superb Hook as a finaly to John's amazing one year long Hook of The Week series....Of course we will miss it but look forward to watching his new projects...For me it signifies my next years projects as a newby trying to follow in his footsteps a little re-creting some of these and improvising my own ideas as a spin off. I'm thinking the 52 videos have maybe 250 to 300 important lessons John is very kindly sharing with us......I just want to say a VERY BIG Personal Thank You John for sharing all this (and more) with us and for all the lessons you give us.
I have enjoyed the hook of the week and although I would love to see more of the same I am looking forward to new projects with varied styles. I suppose you had to end the hook of the week because all the scrap buckets are empty. Just kidding, there is never an end to scrap buckets, just like my woodworking shop that has a never ending piles of scrap wood.
Hello John One project is over another project starts I am looking forward what you will do next I learned such a lot from you that i cant say thanks as much as i had to So the Last hook be the beginning of something new well Done John stay save and healthy All the best greetings from Germany Yours Frank
So John did you hear me moan and gasp when you brought that armless project out of the fire? Nnnnnnnoooooo! But as usual the final end result was great!... thank you .
Hey John, Really sorry to say goodbye to your hook of the week, but I'm looking forward to seeing where your journey leads next! Take care of yourself, Jim
I have never really cared what days you post as long as you post a video lol. I saw your comment on christ centered ironworks yesterday and was surprised because I commented to Roy that he should do a collaboration with black bear forge lol. I love your videos and I will definitely comment more!
Hook Of The Week has been a blast to watch, I hope you'll kind of stick with the "scrap bucket challenge" approach even if the focus is no longer going to be on hooks exclusively. Part of the beauty of blacksmithing to me is turning what that most people would just consider a useless piece of scrap into something useful or pretty(or both).
I'd love to see you make one of those fancy doorknockers. I think you could use the pinecone dies too. would be great. I couldn't afford to buy one, but I'd love to see you make it nonetheless.
Also, I really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for putting the burned stuff in there too. A lot of times, watching you guys who are really good at it is discouraging. Nice to know that you guys mess up too. :)
I'm kinda sad that HOTW is concluded now as a series, but I am excited to see what episodes and series act as it's successors. Maybe Mastermyr Mondays might become a thing when all chores are settled? Maybe we could do Hinge of the Week instead? Who knows!
John with your new favorite scroll for the end of the hook you should do a scalloped tail or fish tail something like that, I’m not sure if I ever seen you make one like that if so it’s been a while, I’m sad to see the hook of the week going away though
Well done John on a year of hooks. Your friendly manner and the way you explain what you are doing so well make your videos a joy to watch. I can't wait to get out to my blacksmith shop and make something. You are truly inspiring.
Thanks 👍
Hook series has been a great success. And this last hook is beautiful. 👍👍👍👍👍

@@dragonstonegemironworkscra4740 hey how doing. Hope you are safe there
I've really enjoyed the Hook of the Week series, especially your imaginative processes to make so many different types and styles of hooks from the scrap bucket. I enjoy all of your videos John. Can't wait for your next projects. Thank you very much. Always educational, informative and interesting.
Glad you like them!
Yes if given a pound of steel he can make it into about anything of steel that weigh less than a pound I have noticed.
@@johnjude2685 As is everything in life... there is always loss.
Sad but true.
I’m sorry to hear that this is the last hook of the week, they will be missed, but I also look forward to seeing what sort of other entertaining and informative project you decide to share. Thank you for all the instruction and inspiration!
I love the smell of Coal Smoke in the Morning. LOL, sorry I couldn't resist.
Well that certainly is a hook worthy of being the final Hook of the Week!
RIP 'Hook of the Week', you will be sadly missed.
Great final episode to a fantastic series! I have loved every hook, and am looking forward to what comes next! Thanks John!
Glad you like them!
Looks good, sad to hear that the hook of the week is going away, but look forward to what you're making next 😁👍
Thank you John so very much for all of the amazing Sunday mornings!
You are very welcome
It was a good year. Glad I was here for the whole thing.

I was actually kinda sad to hear the hook series was over. I love functional art and hooks are a favorite of mine. I appreciate and thank you for the series.
There will almost certainly be more hooks, just not on a weekly basis.
What a great way to end the series. I will have a lot of work for quite a while. Can"t wait to see what"s next.

You and me both!
Sad to hear it's the last hook of the week. As a very new, inexperienced smith are your calm and simple instructions very helpfull! Greetings from Sweden!
There will be plenty more for the newer smith. Just not a formal Hook of the Week
Yup, but you can always go back and watch/rewatch the older videos for tuteledge and inspiration.
Good video and good to see an oops and not a trick to show nothing can go wrong
What an awesome ending to the hook of the week. Very nicely done John. Thank You Wayne

John it's nice to see the coal forge fired up. Thanks for all you do for us out there how need the info thanks

I'm going to miss my Sunday morning coffee with you John.
Sunday mornings aren't gone. They just won't be hook specific
WHAT A FINARLY,, LOVLEY HOOK,, VERY INTERSTING,, THANK YOU VERY MUTCH... REGARDS , R
John, thanks for the series and it shows we do get out of practice when we don't practice for awhile. We are all human. All the best and keep safe.
Thank you John for the HOTW series. I have learned a lot and have used some of your ideas from HOTW on quite a few different projects that had nothing to do with hooks. I will miss HOTW, but look forward to whatever is next. Again, Thank You.

Hinge sounds great and a lot of fun!

Sounds like your off and running, no going back now. Enjoy

Thank you for doing the hook of the week. It was entertaining and inspiring. 🙂

Thanks for sharing
Thanks 👍
Cool and though it is the end of this series of small projects I am sure you have other ideas ready to take its place. Thanks
Well, all good things come to an end. 52weeks is a long commitment. Thanks for sticking with it.

It's been great
I really enjoyed the hook of the week series. It would be great if you bring it back (or something similar - like present of the week)!
While that was a fun series, I simply don't have the time add more videos to my schedule.
I loved this series. Btw. Nice new apron lol.
I've actually had this apron quite a while

So John did you hear me moan and gasp when you brought that armless project out of the fire? Nnnnnnnoooooo! But as usual the final end result was great!... thank you .
Hey John,
Really sorry to say goodbye to your hook of the week, but I'm looking forward to seeing where your journey leads next!
Take care of yourself,
Jim
Thanks 👍
I have never really cared what days you post as long as you post a video lol. I saw your comment on christ centered ironworks yesterday and was surprised because I commented to Roy that he should do a collaboration with black bear forge lol. I love your videos and I will definitely comment more!
We actually did one a while back
Hook Of The Week has been a blast to watch, I hope you'll kind of stick with the "scrap bucket challenge" approach even if the focus is no longer going to be on hooks exclusively.
Who knows!
Catchy idea
John with your new favorite scroll for the end of the hook you should do a scalloped tail or fish tail something like that, I’m not sure if I ever seen you make one like that if so it’s been a while, I’m sad to see the hook of the week going away though
