Rocco, you are literally a hero in my book! You show how to do this work in the most basic terms possibly, and the way you explain just makes sense. Thank you!
I was gifted an '01 Road King, great Uncle. Anyways, don't know anything about harleys. You are a magician sir! Thank you for your helpful guidance Rocco!
Happy to help. Good luck with your new Road King. Any questions just ask. They are great bikes. Thank you for watching and your sub J Z. Ride safe and have a great day.
Rocco, your explanations of these jobs are so perfect, “class is in session “ and we’re all watching & paying attention,, lol!! from a master at work. Keep doing videos,,,
Great video Rocco! I have the same problem. Couldn’t read codes on my ‘03 so to the dealer it went. Charged me 2 hours to tell me it’s the regulator, then wanted me to buy the $400 pump kit. Put the bike on the trailer and brought it home. I might get the kit anyway ‘cuz the bike’s 22 years old, but at least I know how to do this repair, and not get charged another $6-700!! Thanks so much…
It's hard, They can only get you once. Use TH-cam and whatever help you can get. Most of these bikes are reasonably easy to fix. Just make sure you do oil changes/ oil filter and tires and she'll last forever. Thank you for watching and all your support Rob. Rides safe and have a great day. Any questions just ask.
I've reused those screws in a pinch but technically according to the Harley service manual those screws are supposed to be a one time use only & so is the gasket, in case you didn't know....I did mine on my 03 RK about 6 years ago.
Happy to help. Yes the dealer will sell you every little thing to make money. Yes you can reuse them and I have. Thank you for watching and all your support Mark. Ride safe and have a great day. Love when you could do your own work.
Excellent video! I forwarded this to my bro to show him in advance what we'll do when he gets the parts. The way you did the video is MUCH better than me trying to explain it by email! When I disturb those pumps I replace the hoses as they tend to crack from a mix of old age and handling. The parts are cheap. A recent bike may still have supple hoses but they do dry out over time in the hot southeast. Unless money is super tight and that bike is my only transportation I prefer to replace pump, hoses, filter etc same as I do on any car or truck since the labor however little is not worth it to me to do more than as rarely as possible.

Im 29 just bought my first 03 Honda shadow, When i got it the bike wouldn't run correctly. Came to find out it was a bad fuel pump. I replaced it and wow the bike runs amazing. So I got a new paint job on it and spark plugs, Ignition coil, spark plug, oil change, coolant change. Shes ready for the summer here in NC! I got my endorsement then my license and rode it for the first time friday and wow its a amazing feeling!

I will send you a video that covers that but yes I'm certain hoses fail. They rub against the sharp edge in the tank. I have found the deuce to be a popular problem. But check valves fail, you can't win. I think this is designed by the dealer to get you to trade your bike in. That's just my thought take a look at the video. th-cam.com/video/-9cxeuRe42M/w-d-xo.html. Thank you for watching Mike ride safe and have a great day.
Nice Video, Well done, Only thing I would do different, is I would change out the fuel filter while in there, but good to see you did not insist on using all new assembly bolts and rubber gasket as Harley say you should, just trying to make more money out of us.

Thanks for all excellent video. All your uploads are excellent resources of information. Props man. Regarding 09:05 HD would prob charge parts plus $100+ an hour... Crazy prices for mostly simple stuff... Dunno how they justify the prices sometimes.

Do you know if this was a common issue on the early 01 roadkings with the magneti marelli fuel system? Will the same part and part number work? Im experiencing some sputtering/loss of fuel during takeoff as well as when you are cruising at a constant speed. Hasnt failed me yet but not running as strong as it should. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the video. I have a 2003 heritage springer fi .put a new battery in it and it fired right up. Rode about a quarter of a mile and it started missing and tried to cut off. Got it home and smelled gas,it was leaking from the check valve. Fuel pump was working but had to get in the tank to change the check valve and noticed the pickup screen was detearated . Ended up taking everything out, after it was out all the fuel lines crumbled just touching them.went to the Harley shop to get new parts. Harley didn't have much in stock that I needed so I ask for after market parts which they proceeded to help me with only to find out they where sold out could put it on back order but wasn't sure if or when I would get it. Was gonna use my old pump till I started to pull the gas line off it and it crumbledoff to the housing. If your bike is this old it wouldn't hurtto get the complete unite if you can find one. The one that was sold out wasn't but $399.99 with everything but the check valve. I've spent over $600.00 and still haven't got all I need to get it going. Thanks for all the help your sharing. Just wanted to add if you can find ityou better get it before you have to make your own parts. They are getting really hard to get! Have a blessed day !

Greetings Rocco, i cant thank you enough for your videos….they are all step by step, with nice tips and things to be aware of, yet they are consise as you dont talk about things that have nothing to do eith the fix, like most other videos. My question, 2005 RK custom ( fuel injected) i have a constant whine coming from tank, almost like fuel pumo never shuts off after start … But my ride is solid? I don’t think it would be the regulator housing… Any suggestions? Thank you.

Thanks ffor the reply Rocco. I purchased the bike 2 years ago with 14,000 miles in it. The bike now has 23,000 on it. Happy to help when it breaks all the way you cannot create pressure. You'll hear the pump wine, but the bike will not start. Thank you for watching and all your support. Drive safe and have a great day easy fix.
Hey Rocco! Nice work explaining this. I have recently purchased a used 2008 Deluxe with 6,500 miles. I’ve been riding it and it now has approximately 7,200 miles on her. The other night I pulled into the garage and there is a slight humming noise from the gas tank. I was totally lost on what it might be so I started researching it. There isn’t a loss of power, yet, or any other issues. I think I might have caught it prior to things going bad. Question I have is; before I start removing the parts to uncover the fuel system what do you think it might be? I’ve read it might be a dirty fuel filter. Maybe it’s the pump itself. Or maybe it’s what you replaced. Any thoughts?? I’d like to purchase some parts ahead but maybe I should wait until we see what the actual issue is. I just know it wasn’t making that sound before. Thanks !!
Happy to help. I would take my time and let the problem expose itself a little more. Don't go looking for ghosts. These bikes, make noises I would put my money on the filter or the pressure regulator, doesn't have many miles on it. I would not go digging in there just yet. Give it 100 miles and let us know if it still makes the sound. Thank you for watching and all your support.Chazz. Ride safe and have a great day. Regulator and a filter aren't that expensive. 08 is an odd year you'll find out as you're looking up thing your fuel pump. fuel gauge solenoid. It's not like the others.
Pumps hum when they run. In a quiet environment remove your fuel tank cap and turn the ignition key to power on the system but don't start the motorcycle. You'll hear the pump hum just like you will on a car or truck (with the door open if it's a very quiet car or truck) since EFI fuel pumps run briefly when powered on. Do either buy or download a copy of the FACTORY service manual, and either buy a factory parts catalog or use one of the online versions from vendors for the exploded views. Harley tech data is generally very good. Forums get into useful detail so use those AND TH-cam videos to learn about your beast. I drain the gas tank on any bike that old (I just pull them in my yard and have a funnel and container ready) because no ordinary user does that and nearly every fuel tank (bikes, cars, truck, mowers..) will have some water due to moisture condensation. When I get a used bike with low miles I know it sat for much of its life. Then I fill with non-ethanol fuel and put some miles on. I also replace brake and fork fluid (the vast majority of owners fail to do so) when I get a used machine. HDs are simple, mostly easy to wrench and have unsurpassed aftermarket support making them practical lifetime motorcycles.

Happy to help. Motor started to miss, harder to idle, and this all happened within a day to Non Running because you would not be able to maintain the pressure for the fuel injection system. Happy to help. The problem was the regulator housing. What happened was I was making a turn and it shattered and then die. I started it, I only had to get a mile to my house. It was losing power, Really I was losing fuel injection pressure. I've have had a bad check valve and you could hear the bubbling in the tank when trying to start and it idle badly. but you can get it to run. Regulator housing will ended up with a no start bike. Thank you for watching and your sub T Lot.. Any questions just ask. Ride safe and have a great day. I hope that helps. Hey Rocco earlier this week I talked to you about charging system on my 2007 electra glide ultra classic. I have replaced everything and for some reason unless I jump it ,it will not start.any ideas? All this started after I had so.e trans work done
We talked about this, sounds like bad battery. if you could jumpstart it. that suggest to me that your battery has minimal cold crank amps. I don't see any other option. You have to put the battery to rest. It does not have the crank amps. buy a battery $130. What other options do you have starter, transmission what are you suggesting. Let us know how it works out. I know it's frustrating but I have had the same scenario Bad Battery reached 12.8 but won't turn the motor over. Put a jumpstart on it and you got the power to get the job done. What's the worst that happens. You have an extra battery in the big picture that's the cheapest way out.
@@TwoWheelRocco i have done that since we last chatted ,I have replaced stator, voltage regulator, battery, starter, its driving me nuts. Sounds crazy but never happened prior to having some trans work done, also changed compensator at same time
My 14 softail is not firing up after sitting for several months. The first prime sounded like air whooshing. Will not start. Subsequent primes I hear a trickling sound. Is the trickle sound of gasoline inside the tank abnormal? Meaning that I have a broken hose or regulator housing? If not maybe the gas got old?
Happy to help. My Softail, the check valve failed. My Road King the Pressure ragulator housing failed. If you hear bubbling in your tank that would be the check valve hose. @@TwoWheelRocco I thought I previously replied to this already, but this is what I did: 1. Siphoned out (most of) the fuel 2. Open up top of tank, attempted to remove the top piece (containing fuel filter & regulator). It suddenly got loose and came right out, both fuel hoses cracked off. 3. Instead of trying aftermarket hose replacements, which I saw mixed reviews about how long they stay attached, I bought OEM a new fuel pump assembly and the quick connect hose, along with a new filter and a new inside vapor hose. 4. Added new fuel and it started right up. Not sure if the old fuel is usable or not, or part of the problem, but clearly those fuel hoses have a shelf life with E10 fuel, they became as brittle as uncooked long ziti.

I was inherited a 2004 FLSTI from my dad which will not start. He told me, he took it for a short ride and then returned home. After sitting for about 2 hours, he returned to the bike to start it, and it cranked but it did not start. Would your issue cause the same issue he had?
That is very vague. Do you hear a fuel pump activate when you try to start? That would be an indication if you don't hear that pump you have a bad pump if you hear the pump. And you also hear.bubbling you got a bad line in your fuel pump. Happy to help. Any questions just ask thank you for watching and your support Rob. Ride safe and have a great day.

Hi Rocco, Thanks! Again! I've had the parts on order for a while, got em all. Short story , needed to replace the quick release and fuel line to injector body because of bodge job to get going 1500 miles from home (it was a perished o ring in the quick release). So, I figured while I'm in there I'll just replace everything . ( very low mileage 15 year old bike}. Thank you for watching and all your support Perry. Ride Safe and have a great day. And I do agree with you you should not use the screw type clamps on a fuel injection set up.
Happy to help. Loss of power and then got worse. Two would not run. Just made it home. Regulator house and cracked. Hope this helps. Any other questions just ask. But it's a well known problem with these bikes. Thank you for watching and all your support 000Wilbur. Ride safe and have a great day.
Who the help. Started running really poor really quick. A bad fuel pump line would be a slow disintegrate of performance. First it will affect your idle and sucking air and causing it to backfire and pop. It went to a No start situation very fast within 2 3 miles. And then wouldn't start at all start at all when I got home. Thank you for watching and your sub. It's a popular problem. Ride safe and have a great day.
Happy to help. There's a relay for your fuel pump and for your starter. Switch them and then check your fuel pump to see if you hear it start up. If not, then you got a bad fuel pump if so, then you got a bad relay But I would put my money on a relay. What bike is this on? Thank you for watching all your support. Any questions just ask. Ride safe and have a great day.
Sir I have 2000 road king, I have 2 lines under the tank one if fuel supply line and one is return. My question is the return is it connected to anything or is it just there for fuel to go back into tank? My manuals shows the line but not or if they connect to anything
I'm not that sure I believe they only did that for one or two years. I'll send you a link and hopefully that can answer that for you. Thank you for your support and watching big dog. www.fixya.com/motorcycles/t12912648-need_diagram_2000_harley_davidson_road. Hope this helps.

I was inherited a 2004 FLSTI from my dad which will not start. He told me, he took it for a short ride and then returned home. After sitting for about 2 hours, he returned to the bike to start it, and it cranked but it did not start. Would your issue cause the same issue he had?

I've heard stories of those hoses going bad as well
I will send you a video that covers that but yes I'm certain hoses fail. They rub against the sharp edge in the tank. I have found the deuce to be a popular problem. But check valves fail, you can't win. I think this is designed by the dealer to get you to trade your bike in.

Thanks ffor the reply Rocco. I purchased the bike 2 years ago with 14,000 miles in it. The bike now has 23,000 on it. It seems the consensus is the filter, but do you have a suggestion as to where to buy, I may not be looking in the right spot, but im hopeful i dint have to buy the full assembly.

Would this repair be similar on a StreetGlide fuel tank?

@@obfuscated3090 I totally agree with you. I love these Harley Davison's. Parts and service is relatively easy . Thank you for watching and all your support ob.. Ride safe and have a great day.
Sir, what were the symptoms which led you to believe you had a defective regulator housing?
Happy to help. Motor started to miss, harder to idle, and this all happened within a day to Non Running because you would not be able to maintain the pressure for the fuel injection system. If you took the gas cap off and fired up the fuel pump, you could hear air bubbles.. Thank you for watching and all your support Carlos. Hope this helps. What is your bike doing? Ride safe and have a great day.
Very informative video my friend , can I ask what the symptoms were that led you to the regulator ?
Happy to help. The problem was the regulator housing. What happened was I was making a turn and it shattered and then die. I started it, I only had to get a mile to my house. It was losing power, Really I was losing fuel injection pressure. I've have had a bad check valve and you could hear the bubbling in the tank when trying to start and it idle badly. but you can get it to run. Regulator housing will ended up with a no start bike. Thank you for watching and your sub T Lot.. Any questions just ask. Ride safe and have a great day. I hope that helps. Open the tank, you will see the O-ring bulging out the side where the housing failed.

I will send you a video where I repair one. If you fill the tank up with gas and try to start it, let us know what it does. It will cover the spot where you have the hose has a hole. @@TwoWheelRocco I thought I previously replied to this already, but this is what I did:
1. Siphoned out (most of) the fuel
Happy to read all went well. It's a shame those hoses are that weak.I know you were happy when you hit that start button, then she started up. And that's what it's all about. Thank you for watching. and your support John. Ride safe and have a great day.

Is this something you have experience w/ ?? Do you think I could change it out myself ?? I've never actually removed the pump or even opened the fuel tank but i'm confident in my mechanical skills and usually find a way to do my repairs & replacements myself. Like you :) !!
Would you be able to recommend a video link for the repair ?? Any advise would be appreciated.
Love the Daytona video's !! I can't wait for Galveston Bike Week in Nov.
Thanks for your generous consideration,
Sincerely ..............................
Happy to help. Yes you can, watch the video and you could do it. You will need to remove the pump out of the gas tank to replace the sending unit for your gas gauge. Let us know how it works out. Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching and your sub Steph. Ride safe and have a great day.
Great video sir. Do you think it would be worthwhile to change the strainer while your in the tank already? Thanks.
Happy to help,. I agree, but this is the second time I was in this tank it is quite clean. I was shocked at that housing cracked. Thank you for watching and your support DT. Ride safe and have a great day.

Good video, but why did you put a plastic one back on it? Bad thing about the aluminum ones is they are about 70 bucks.
Happy to help. I was not sure of the problem, so I went with the OEM style replacement. And I think you are right about the aluminum one, that will last forever. Thank you for watching and your sub Jeff.
My thinking was the hoses might be getting old and brittle, but I think they look nicer than the replacement hoses. More flexible. I thought they were brown from age, but maybe thats the material they are made from?
Anyway, thanks again from Australia. I always check for a video from you before I work on the bike, your primary tutorial was a great help also!
Is your accent Long Island?
Kind Regards,
Brad

@@TwoWheelRocco have you ever seen those hoses when new? I'm wondering if they are brown when new
Happy to help. Any questions just ask Thank you for watching and all your support Bradford Child. As for the check valve that comes with the hose and I would replace that as one unit. Do not try to do an O-ring on the check valve. Does not work out well, New ones will be clear white, The old ones will turn yellow. Let us know how it works out. Ride safe and have a great day.
@@TwoWheelRocco yeah, old hoses were brown. New ones white, but they are a different pattern.
Anyway, all in there now and running great!
thanks for your time and the good vids!
@@MrBradfordchild My pleasure. Always happy to help. Ride safe and have a great day.
what were the symtoms when it failed, what did the bike do? Two Wheel Rocco
Happy to help. It would start sputtering, would not idle, stall. You could tell it's a lack of fuel. That's one of the major problems pressure regulator housing crack. O-ring will not seat proper causing loss of pressure. Comes out of nowhere. Thank you for watching and all your support Anthony. Ride safe and have a great day. Let us know how it works out.
would this cause the bike to run like crap when idling? my 06 softail deluxe is making a skip noise and i think its this.
Happy to help. Yes and it will get worse. It's sucking air. Thank you for watching. And all your support Battery juice. Let us know how it works out. Ride safe and have a great day. Open your gas tank cap, listen you willl hear the air bubbles.
I can see fuel moving around in my tank and spraying when level is low enough when I cycle the ignition. Bike runs fine. Fuel pump primes and shuts off. Is that normal or is my housing failing?
Happy to help. Sounds like your check valve is failing. As the tank gets empty your idle will get funny at red lights. And it will get worse. If it was the pressure regulator housing the bike would die. Thank you for watching and your sub Jody. Let us know how it works out. Any questions just ask. Ride safe and have a great day.
Take a look at this video it's pretty much the same but different check valve replacement. .th-cam.com/video/-9cxeuRe42M/w-d-xo.html. Hope this helps.
Hi question what is the symptoms of the bike when that happened ?
The bike will start idling funny. Then it will die. Start up and then never run again until you fix that regulator housing. Hope that helps. Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching and your sub Jesse. Ride safe and have a great day. What is your bike doing?
I have an 06 Road king and at low rpm's it has a small cough...but doesn't stall...could this be the problem?
Happy to help. How many miles? That could be the start of a fuel pump issue. Make sure you have a clean air filter. And your oil level is not overfilled, halfway on the dip stick. Let us know how it works out, Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching and your sub Bad Wolf. Ride safe and have a great day.
Nice video
What model your bike?
Thank you for watching and your support v99u. Ride safe and have a great day. It's a 2002 CVO Screamin eagle king. All original. I love that bike.
@@TwoWheelRoccothank you for answering my question 🙏
This road king it's really beautiful
Especially this version
There is a special color of this type
Violet color 👍
God bless you my friend..
I think you have the right idea, about the problem of the bike running strangely, however you don't seem to realize that working on top of the tank....all you need is a spark...one little spark..and you may get a ride to the hospital..Your removal doesn't show how you removed the fuel from the tank, and the pump unit should make it to the workbench ??? You're to brave for me.. Ps. I have removed fuel pumps four times now.
Just trying to help. I've done at least 50 of them. Never have a problem. Thank you for watching it all your support Randy. Ride safe and have a great day. Love my Road King's.
Hey Rocco, im trying to diagnose my issues on a 2001 Roadking with fuel injection. The bike starts fine, and then idles fine for a few minutes, then the idle begins to slow and its like the bike is coughing. Could this be pump issues or idle/sensor issues?
Happy to help. Sounds like your fuel pump regulator housing has a cracked. Or your check valve has a hole in the line. Two Notorious problems. You will need to open it up and inspect and replace regulator housing. if there's a hole in your check valve line you will replace that line. Remove your gas cap and activate fuel pump, If you hear air bubbling in your gas tank. Your check valve hose has a hole in the line. Let us know how it works out. I will send you a video on the check valve replacement Thank you for watching and your sub David. Ride safe and have a great day. @@TwoWheelRocco thank you very much for the insight and the videos!
@@davidjohnson7847 My pleasure. Let us know how it works out. Ride safe and have a great day.
@@TwoWheelRocco still working on it and waiting on parts, it appears that I have 2 check valves. Do I just go about it the same way and swap them both?
@@davidjohnson7847 there is only one check valve yes there's more than one set of hoses but the check valve is actually the connector that goes to your injectors so the check valve is what you looking at on the left side of your gas tank that connects to your fuel injection hose so that would be one but yes there's multiple hoses you have to go in there and take a look.
Good solid video, 👌

@@TwoWheelRocco same to you Brother, enjoy the ride!
I have a 01 Road King that does not have a regulator housing on it done took it apart
Sorry about that, I just looked it up and you are right, started in O2 with those preasure regulator housings. was it just a hose. usually the check valve is the next problem. Thank you for watching. I hope you were able to fix your motorcycle. Ride safe and have a great day and thank you for the input.
Hey man, for some reason my bike won't start. and it appears I have no fuel flowing out of my tank. Do you have any idea why?
Happy to help. Do you hear the fuel pump activated? If so take the gas cap off and listen for air bubble noise in the tank the pump is pressurizing. I believe it will be your regulator housing failed. As shown in the video. That's where the fuel pressure starts you will have to go into that tank and inspect. Thank you for watching and your sub Clayton. Ride safe have a great day. Let us know how it works out. Any questions just ask.
@@TwoWheelRocco sorry for the late response. I got the bike running again! Thank you for your help!
@@claytonhester3097 happy to read all worked out. So what was the problem? it helps others. Thank you for all your support. Ride safe and have a great day.
@@TwoWheelRocco well my vaccum hose was cracked. So the the gas tank had no pressure or suction. And my gas filter was full of crap. I don't think the filter was an issue but it certainly didn't help
Thank you for the update. Ride safe and have a great day.
Never use screw clamp , you will be doing it right all over again !!!😊
Just trying to help. Those clamps are fuel injection clamps if you look at the date of the video. I am still riding that bike and never had another problem. Thank you for watching and all your support Perry. Ride Safe and have a great day. And I do agree with you you should not use the screw type clamps on a fuel injection set up.
WHAT WAS THE SYMPTOMS WHEN OPERATING MC ? NO PRIME ? PUMP NOT LOUD/NOT PRIMING/ RUNS OUT OF FUEL TO INJECTORS?? HMMM
Happy to help. Loss of power and then got worse. Two would not run. Just made it home. Regulator house and cracked. Hope this helps. Any other questions just ask. But it's a well known problem with these bikes. Thank you for watching and all your support 000Wilbur. Ride safe and have a great day.
What was the bike doing to make you know it was the fuel pump/regulator housing)

I don't hear the fuel pump when I turn on the engine switch

I was inherited a 2004 FLSTI from my dad which will not start. He told me, he took it for a short ride and then returned home. After sitting for about 2 hours, he returned to the bike to start it, and it cranked but it did not start. Would your issue cause the same issue he had?
