    Thanks for the update and keep doing what you do. My journey in the current market has taught me a lot of lessons, at the top of that list is that it never pays to live above one's means. I have managed to grow a nest egg of around $600k to a decent 7 figures in the space of a few months. Sad to say but a lot of us have poor money management skills. My 2 cents -get an advisor to keep you accountable and aid you make better decisions, Marnell English has been helping me a lot, all through my journey. I find it better to pay a little bit more for peace of mind than worry about money or market trends and still get >burned.

    I want to share 2 things:
    1. Regarding frugality - my father says the same things but I think he is being a miser.. but when u r saying the same things they appear to be logical.. 😃😃
    2. Regarding moving to smaller cities- though being a central govt employee, i was posted in Bangalore for 5 years. Now I have been transferred to Madikeri.. apart from the natural beauty the savings angle includes absence of swiggy or Zomato or any other home delivery, absence of big malls n shopping complexes, n my office being so near to my rented home that it is just a 5 minute walk..
    What u r trying to convey makes sense

    • @abhimanyukar
      @abhimanyukar ปีที่แล้ว

      You can resist your temptation to eat in Swiggy even in a metro city. Imagine you cook in both a metro city and a small town, are the vegetables cheaper in Madikeri? I don't know about Madikeri, but if it is Imphal or Kohima it will definitely not be cheaper. May be a small town located near or between metro cities can be cheaper. I hail from Kolkata and work in Sivasagar, Assam. Almost everything is more expensive here in Sivasagar and Swiggy and malls do exist, but useful things like service centre for electronics and good medical facilities do not. As I observe show off consumerism is quite popular in the North East compared to Kolkata, the oil money and black money trickles down, people like to have fun, spend on gardens, road trips but they do not invest in health, education. Drawing rooms are often nice but toilets not always.

    • @abhimanyukar
      @abhimanyukar ปีที่แล้ว

      A large number of people grow their own vegetables in the North East, but you can only do that if you buy land. In a rented house most likely the landlord won't allow. Moreover, being in a good job you do not have that much time, while people who are local live with large families who help in kitchen garden, housework etc. People give a lot of importance to do housework and hiring maids, cooks etc. is a big problem. As an outsider you need to buy gadgets which are hardly serviceable there. There is a cycle like you leave your office in the middle of the working day since electrician is supposed to come, but the electrician doesn't turn up because he has to pick his son from school. Ultimately the chain gives a lot of time and energy to housework and less to office. In this case locals staying with a joint family and who have their own land are at much an advantage. Some relative can pick you up from the railway station at 2:00 AM because no taxi may do (even after offering money or demand a large premium).

    You're damn right about living in metros and ordering everything.. this actually makes us order more than we require and the ease with which things are available in metros makes us more prone to outsource even the most basic activities.. and combined with high rentals, the scope to save drastically reduces

    • @swapnilharsur3082
      @swapnilharsur3082 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      But again, the exposure and convenience is what I think matters. Most best hospitals and best colleges resides in good metro cities. You have no problem with electricity or water outages. And talking about food ordering, if you are a disciplined individual you can avoid that and if not doesn't matter where you stay you will definitely find some other indulgences. And I believe in skilling up and earning more, having a balanced life rather than suppressing your basic needs and saving and not enjoying life in general. These are just my thoughts and opinion!

    • @___DannyBoyka
      @___DannyBoyka ปีที่แล้ว

      @@swapnilharsur3082 Very true. It's hard, or impossible for a 20-30 year old starting his career to find a 1LPA+ private job in a non metro city. Investing, financial freedom etc. takes time; just don't fall for this 'lets quit office @25 and live in a beach' nonsense, it might or might not work and it will take some time.

    • @rahulsingh-iw2yx
      @rahulsingh-iw2yx ปีที่แล้ว

      For most of the people doing well paid jobs in big cities, there's nothing in a small city. I will have to compromise on a bulk of my earnings to go a settle for some meagre job in a smaller city.
      Plus the quality of education in smaller cities, medical facilities is not upto the mark.
      So the option of shifting to small city is good to sound but the reality is completely different.
      Sadly, India has very few good job centers.

  • @shrihara

    Here is most important trick -
    When you join as fresher in your 20s with low salary, do NOT invest on real estate, no matter whatever is returns, fast exponential growth it might give. Instead invest on investments with compounding interest like PPF with 80C income tax benefits and also non-taxable interest and with no capital gain tax.
    Key here is 'TIME". Time is multiplier and something irrecoverable that you have got ONLY in early 20s.
    You investing 1 lakh in a year during early 20s is same as a person investing 10 Lakhs in a year in 40s.
    You both will end up with same amount during retirement at 60.

    This was a wonderful and very much needed piece! Young people must understand that saving is not enough. It's a good start, but given the way the economy is going, you have to do better. Investing that saved money is a must and diversifying your investments so you have multiple streams is key. Of course, you have to be well informed on where you put your money or better still, get an expert to handle it for you (that way, you save time and minimize risks). Made my first million this way earlier this year from investing my savings something as casual as stocks. Goodluck!

    Very good tips... I do employ some of your methods... This are some of my additions
    1) Deal majorly in cash by withdrawing large amount once weekly & not using debit card/UPI even in small shops.
    2) separate bank account for daily online expenses separate from salary account.
    3) offline, we generally don't ask shopkeeper price of groceries... Just choose some quantity for billing. Compare online/offline prices.
    4) if salary increases by 10%, you can keep your spending same as earlier or may inncrease by 3-4%.

Due to wfh or rather work from hometown in covid, it was much easier to save money(no Swiggy no Zomato nothing). Now things have changed, back to square metro city, Zomato, Netflix, increased rent, commute prices, traffic etc all the bs again. We are financially independent and our modes of transport are an Enfield Himalayan for riding across India, which we did even during the last two years (because somehow cops at state borders don't hassle you when they see you riding in full gear...). The amount of money we save by not paying toll, more or less covers our petrol bill :) And when we are home, have a second hand Honda Activa for day today errands and cycles for fun rides to the beach. 0:30 I doubt that petrol price will increase in future as oil market experiencing more supply than demand and electric vehicles are also creating competition to oil market. If petrol price goes up that much people would go for ev faster.

    Buying a car has its own benefits. It is safer for long drives. The city/traffic commute is more easy on a 2-wheeler. Secondly buying a post paid network family plan gives you other benefits. For eg Airtel provides free yearly basic subscriptions to hotstar, netflix , amazon

    Akshat, you must be joking. Making chocolate at home is damn easy, and you can figure out the taste and darkness which suits you the most.
    Also, two wheelers might be cheaper to run, but you can only use them on small streets. Driving them on roads where cars overspeed is not safe.

    2 wheeler i disagree, in my area dogs chase and bite, bangalore roads have many potholes, people have died due to bikes going out of balance due to potholes
    overall i agree, living frugal is the best policy.

    My heart goes to the entire community for Amazons A22NFN building up something even my grandpa can understand. This is so smart by them to launch it to shatter the doubts and fears of the common folk which is not even correct to begin with. Everyone knows the state of inflation and recession now and the way out is already in progress. Now it's just about catching the big fish

    Awesome video. And glad that I along with my family are already into many of these practices and hence save quite a good sum!
    The other aspect which you didn't talk was probably the self control one gradually develops in one's life as saving becomes a habit. You also learn to be content with small things in life which brings general satisfaction.

    Delhi is now not 2 wheeler friendly due to massive pollution and dust in environment. Governments are busy collecting tax from sale of cars and not working on cleaning environment. Like 10 - 15 years back we all use to commute on two wheelers for smaller distance and if only 2 person are travelling but now it is considered very low class to travel via 2 wheelers

    Akshat, I really get your points , and all of them are excellent in terms of saving money.
    But there is a flipside as well, of say, driving a Scooty. Yes an BMW is a overkill, but a car is generally much safer than a two wheeler. And You know about Indian road conditions, it's not always our own fault.
    No matter the health insurance amount, an accident can devastate everything around us. So why don't also consider safety, and strike a balance between saving, frugality and safety ?

    If everyone will start saving extensively and consumption will go down, then how come our economy will grow?? All our savings will go in drain if economy is moving on sloth speed. Economy will not grow then income will not grow.
