You can see the reason around the 4:00 mark in the video. Worn bearing caused a little vibration/noise. I think it would've held, but since I was making a 1200 mile trip back to NY in the next few days, I didn't want to chance it. I would've replaced just the motor itself, but it wasn't in stock, so I replaced the entire unit.
$178.xx from AutoZone using my shop discount (normal price $309.99) There are actually two different fan assemblies available (towing and non-towing package), so make sure you get the right one.
You don't have to drain the coolant, but some a will leak out when you remove the upper hose (maybe a pint if that) Just make sure you fill and bleed the system properly when done.
