  • "On the basis of this debut, Ambrosia was called the American answer to British progressive rock bands like Yes and King Crimson. But while they were recording it, other influences had already begun to seep in."

The band members went on playing gigs with David Pack on the billing but David had taken time off to be with his family and was not aware of what they were doing until he was told. He asked for his share of the money and the band members refused so David ended up suing the band and settled for an undisclosed amount of money. Such an underhanded move on the band members part that I can’t follow them. Greed always seems to take hold and ruins things. I know times change and people change but you have to have some morality in life and be able to deal with things fairly and honestly. People come and go in life and some stay as true friends forever. Too bad this was not the case. Love David Pack’s writing and singing and he is Ambrosia!

"Life Beyond L.A." was one of the most epic albums of my life. My #1 favorite album for over a decade, at one point I had 8 copies of that record. "Apothecary" played a significant part of my life. And to answer ambrosia's question on why people are still listening to this.. bcz there absolutely great! Great music, great lyrics.. great vocal harmonies... great vibes from the songs.. there songs that we can feel bcz the music and the lyrics set a mood.. you can feel it. Its not just a cool beat n a chorus that stays i yr head. Its a 1.. 2 punch! It takes you somewhere youve been or want to go or go back to! The groups of the 70's, the writers.. man, dont get it hardly at all today. So thank you all.. AMBROSIA. and young youtubers are doing reactions to yr music n lots of the greats of the 60's and 70s n they really dig it bcz it so dam good n powerful.

I was kind of disappointed when Ambrosia moved away from prog... But they were so good at R&B you really couldn't blame them for going there. Then they rocked out with Road Island. The anthology album had "You're Mama Don't Understand" and "Sky Is Falling" which were both absolutely epic amalgamations of Ambrosia's sound. One of the most talented and diverse group of musicians ever to create and perform.

I always felt like their first 2 albums were their best efforts. Having Alan Parsons produce them didn't hurt either! Lol. But I get it. Going for a more commercial sound and thus, a bigger, wider audience makes for a bigger paycheck. The Moody Blues went through this same experience around the same time. I'm just glad I was around for the ride back then. I lost touch with my SoCal roots when I moved to Europe in early 1980. Over there it was The Police and a more international sound that was soon to crash upon American shores. That Ambrosia hung in there along with the other "yacht rockers" is no small accomplishment considering how radically different the sounds changed in the '80's.

Well, I think I can answer the question as to why its still popular 40 years later. #1. The 70s was the golden age of vocal harmony bands and Ambrosia had killer vocals. #2. It was more about talent in the 70s. I play in a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band called "Almost Skynard". Ironically I am also looking to put another band together covering Ambrosia, Player etc.

But I didn't cheat on my boyfriend. He decided that he really didn't love me. And I realized that he was my first love. I was devastated. I ran into him again after I was married for some years. Yeah, they just became Blue-Eyed Soul very quickly. That term Yacht-Rock always sounded trivial. I'm from Atlanta - no yachts here.
I see Ambrosia as the successor to The Righteous Brothers and precursor to Hall & Oates.
Also, you'd be surprised how many blacks who never saw this band assumed they were a black Soul Dance group. They sound black to many southern ears.

I have heard David Pack talk about how these guys are taking credit for his work and acting like these hits were created by them. Sorry Ambrosia was David Pack! These guys could have been replaced and no one would have known any better. These two ARE NOT Ambrosia. Save your ticket money.

Not trying to be rude or cruel, but the bass player needs to sue the plastic surgeon that butchered his poor face…

"Other influences..." Yeah, like money perhaps?
You can't blame them I suppose - ya gotta eat. But they went from the most amazing progressive band to just another cookie-cutter top 40 formula hit generator.
I bought their first album for "Holding on to Yesterday" and it took me a long time to really appreciate the whole album - their creativity and musicianship was amazing and totally out of left field. I mean really, incorporating the reading of the poem "Jabberwocky" into a rock song? But it worked! Brilliant!
I bought their second album for the song "Can't Let a Woman" and the rest of the album was even weirder than their first. That one took me even longer to really get into.
And then they came out with "Life Beyond LA" and like the DJ's Burleigh mentioned, I felt betrayed by buying that album. I absolutely hated it. My favorite band at that time was no more. Such a shame.
