4:51 It's good to hear that there weren't any frame rate issues. Some of these cross-platform titles can really tax the Switch's hardware and you never know if it can handle these visually intense games.
The framerate issues have all been fixed now btw for Chrono Cross, not I can finally experience this game right, I got pretty far but the framerate killed me
I don't know if I'll spend a lot of time with RD, but I am so glad it's on here! Especially being on a physical Switch cart now, and in multiple languages, this is a fantastic feat of games preservation, and I hope Square continues brining more of its old releases to modern platforms
Definitely enjoyed my time going through this game and catching all the parallels to Cross. Also, the bonus endings/ routes that you unlock after beating the main story are an absolute riot. They truly take the idea of "Chrono Cross fanfiction" to entirely new heights.

I’m still waiting on my copy so I can add to my precious backlog of games. However, I have beaten three games in the past month thanks to suggestions in how to defeat your backlog in another great Super Derek video. Finally beat Cosmic Star Heroine. Solid game
I remember helping NeoDemiforce beta test his original English translation. I didn't know what to make of it then, and I still don't know what to make of it now. It's for the diehards.
It gets better with multiple play throughs because it does have a new game plus feature. The multiple endings give more insight...but yeah, it’s more for the hardcore fans then anything.

Radical Dreamers is canon, it's just another reality kind of like the reality inside the Dead Sea. Dialogue from the game is even referenced inside the Chronopolis. Chronopolis was just trying to achieve the reality that was Chrono Cross.
I remember playing Radical Dreamers when it was first translated - I was so thrilled, thinking that it was going to be similar to Chrono Trigger, only to be sorely disappointed. I mean, I would have been happier if it was similar to Chrono Cross. However, I was shocked to see that it was a visual novel, back then visual novels really didn't exist (at least over here in America). I think I gave it something like 5 minutes before I said 'screw this' and turned it off in wide eyed frustration. It's just the cherry on top of the shit sandwich that is Chrono Cross and its little universe.
No, dude. It actually isn't. I would say that Radical Dreamers does a far better job of telling Serge and Kid's story than Chrono Cross did, and it's a very different story than Cross. Serge is basically a different character in Radical Dreamers. Look, I am someone who thinks that Chrono Cross is a VERY flawed game, but Radical Dreamers is worth experiencing regardless of Cross. The fact that it is a visual novel doesn't automatically mean it is bad. It may not be your thing, and that's fine, but my recommendation would be to try it again with an open mind.
I realize how old this post is but as someone that played Cross FIRST and then went back and played Trigger I loved both. I’d love if either of you care to mention what you see as flawed. Cheers!
Radical Dreamers is "canon" as its referenced in Chrono Cross, but its an alternate universe
Definitely agree that this is more for Chrono Cross fans than Trigger. When I tried playing the fan translation back in the day, I was super hyped for a CT sequel...and then super disappointed lol.
Same here! Imagine playing Radical Dreamers back on the Satelaview and expecting a Chrono Trigger follow-up, only to get something barely even tangentially connected, with like, one mention of Guardia. Man that would have killed me!

I’m kinda dissapointed that it’s a text based adventure RPG. I know it’s not for me. But maybe for others they’ll find enjoyment in this simple game.
I'm going to push back on the whole "it's only for fans of Chrono Cross" thing. I happen to think that Chrono Cross is a VERY flawed game, and clearly inferior to Chrono Trigger, but I LOVE Radical Dreamers. The way I see it, Radical Dreamers does a FAR better job of telling Serge and Kid's story. One reason for that being that it isn't bogged down with 45 playable character the way that Cross is. I personally would recommend Radical Dreamers to Chrono Trigger fans even if they hated Chrono Cross.
