    Good video and good point about the narrow hand position on the brakes. Not optimal considering that's when you want the most control.

      thanks and you're right. i wound up wiping out on a descent once just because i was trying to hold the brakes but wasn't able to steer through a loose turn. this setup is not ideal for rough downhills but on mostly paved trips they're perfectly fine.

      @@biking-placeswhat about the control of a butterfly bar on steep paved descents?

      @@keplerssomnium i wouldn't say it's one of the strong suits of this style of bar but if the descent doesn't require too much tight cornering they could work fine.

      @@biking-places thank you very much for the feedback. Do you think another alt-bar would be suitable for that situation? (Jones bar, corner bar, moloko bar, etc)

      @@keplerssomnium i think all the ones you mentioned have the same advantage of having your brakes on the wider part. that's what's going to help with downhill control when you also need to have your hands on your brakes. butterfly bars have more useful hand positions for flats and uphill when you don't need your brakes as much.

    You can mount your brakes by the sides if you want also. I'm trying a similar setup. The bar ends give you an aero position you can use in the wind or on smooth roads.

      i don't think most brake levers would make it around the curve in the bar. def want to see it if you come up with something that works better though.

    Ride as much or as little or as long or as short as you feel. But ride. Nice Tour guy!

    You've moved from butterfly bars to beetle bars! I like the idea of adding the stretched position, like the triathletes use, and the bar ends are a great way to do that. Do you add a bag to the front?

    • @biking-places
      @biking-places  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i like that, "beetle bars." i honestly haven't used them for bags yet but i have the tiny rack that would help support one or i can hang an enormous bar bag. just haven't been packing heavily enough recently to need to.

    I bought a used bike with butterfly bars and have some old bar ends. I may try that.

    • @biking-places
      @biking-places  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      give it a whirl and tell me what you think. some bar ends make it a bit tricky to make it around the bends in the bars but you can try prying them open a bit more with a screwdriver. good luck.

      downtube. i don't love using them but i love the simplicity.

    What bar ends are they, I tried to fit mine but they didn't go around the bend

      i think mine are profile design but i'm not 100% sure. unfortunately i've seen a few that don't quite fit.

    what:s the angle of your stem?

    • @biking-places
      @biking-places  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      this one was about a +20 or 25. it's super short so it doesn't raise the bars that much. i've actually switched it with a much longer +30 or so because i want the bars higher.
