I have the NIV Cultural Bible and it gives lot of background info. The Greeks derided eunuchs as "half men" and they (the Eunuchs) were barred from converting to Judaism. Because he was not a full convert , this Eunuch is the FIRST Gentile Christian mentioned in Acts! How awesome is that!!!

Is it wrong that Peter’s exchange with Simon makes me not like Peter? Matthew often said Jesus had compassion. I don’t hear compassion in Peter’s reprimand. Simon was new to faith, and he simply asked a question. New believers won’t necessarily fully understand the “gift” aspect of salvation and the Holy Spirit. This is no different than people thinking we are saved by works. Peter came across as “holier than thou.” Feeling this way about Peter makes me uncomfortable because I know he was integral in the church. I know scripture is God inspired so I will wrestle with this. Anyone else find Peter’s response as too harsh? Also, pretty cool that Philip was teleported!

Simon was weird to even offer money anyways but however, it's true that since he was a literally new believer whom might have limited knowledge of all that, it shouldn't even come across as a negative statement towards Peter.
