Great video - I have also found money inside of a Goodwill purchase! Note: the "HDD" cover was just an ethernet network adapter (the HDD wasn't "missing", per se, it was likely just never purchased). The original PS2 fats just came with a generic expansion bay covering, and soon after Sony released the network adapter, which you would install exactly as the one in this video. Despite it saying "HDD" on it, the network adapter wasn't originally packaged with the HDD itself, which hit store shelves quite a bit later. The network adapter was necessary to for the HDD to function though, and it was clearly planned as part of a way to expand the PS2 down the road. Very few games actually took advantage of the HDD, so it's rare to find a fat PS2 that has one on the inside (in my experience, I've never actually found one).
Very good info! I've found a couple but all came from goodwill so likely the previous owners had put everything together already and then just sent it off in the same assembled condition they had it.
That is mind boggling! I am sure the original owner forgot that they stashed money in there, but to have that much money stashed away to forget about it is just unreal. I would have remembered, but geez that's just crazy! Sure I'm wanting a network adapter that I can change the insides to use a SATA drive which is one thing I've been watching on eBay and even Shop Goodwill even though the latter has it with the console. What an amazing video and of course this is a once in a lifetime chance this happens.
definitely agree. With goodwill these are donated consoles so probably something a parent donated because the kid never used it and they didn't realize they were stashing money inside or could be that the previous owner passed away and it was donated afterwards. Could be a variety of scenarios leading up to this. Very intriguing to say the least though. I gave this some thought clearly haha.
The case for Crash, which is a single disc game, is an old Blockbuster Video rental case. If you look at the left side of the case you will see the slots where the yellow, magnetic anti-theft locking bar which would prevent the consumer from opening the case. As for there being two disc placeholders, this design was to accommodate 2 disc games.
Yeah definitely. I saw that and ps2 double disc games were rare but wasn't super familiar with the title so wasn't going to commit to it being a single disc without knowing.
yeah the HDD was I think for a linux setup originally, and was pretty much an afterthought. the linux kit came with the network card and hard drive as a package, but the network card could be purchased separately. there were versions of the network adapter that didn't have the hdd option as well if I remember correctly. with softmods, the hard drive has become a must install these days.. I did mine and have pretty much my entire ps2 games collection backed up to the drive. I have to admit that was a pretty good hiding place, probably too good if you lose $800 lol.
You struck gold. Who would stash away $800 in their Playstation? Some burglar must have done that a long time ago and forgot about it. What a find. Treat yourself to some new expensesive retro games. You deserve it
That's dirty money, probably hahahaha. Im just imagining someone selling herb back in the day, and then their girlfriend dumped him and took his shit and sold it 😂😂

I've heard about GameCubes originating from a specific month of production in a particular year that had a cash prize stuffed in the open area inside. I'm convinced you've encountered a prize winning PS2. Either that or you may have discovered someone's drug money or something like that 😂
Really?? Never heard of that. I guess I'll have to make sure I open gamecubes up always lmao. You never know I guess. Given the fact that this actually had a hard drive installed (well the cover for it anyways)....I think this was likely someone's secret stash cash!
Nobody removed the hard drive, you silly goose. All the old PS2s had an expansion bay, but the hard drive was released later. That thing you removed was the network adapter, which you needed to play online and also released a couple years after launch when the OG SOCOM came out and Sony first got into online gaming. The hard drive came out a year or two after that.
Yeah but the expansion bays had a cover over them that said expansion bay not the network adapter. At least for all the ones I've handled anyways and I've had probably 50 over so pass through over the years.
@@OfficialChaseBrogan The network adapter works without a hard drive, my guy. But you need a network adapter for the hard drive to work. Did the listing say it had a hard drive? Because obviously they didn’t check (I think you faked this vid, btw).
@@TheRealCaptainFreedom Where in the hell would he get crisp $100 bills that started circulating in 1996 and stopped being printed in 2013? He DID NOT fake this vid. College kid comes home and is trying to hide his drug fund so his parents don't question why he has that much money. Next day the mom takes the old dusty PS2 to goodwill cause it hasn't been touched in a decade.
I can easily tell this is legit. The one-hundred dollar bills that he is pulling out stopped being printed in 2013. Now, this doesn't mean that they are still not in circulation. The one-hundred-dollar bills you see today began printing in 2013. Obviously, it has more security features. The purpose of having variations of bills overlap is so that when banks get older versions of bills, except for the one-dollar bill, they are supposed to be sent to the US Mint for destruction. Since the PS2 was released in 2000, I will reiterate, I believe him.
right. You see a lot less of those bills when pulling money out of the bank. Still possible to stage, but it's a bit more work to make sure you get all those older bills. They've probably been in that system for a while. Someone could have been trying to hide the money, and figured, no one's gonna open my PS2 up. Maybe they didn't trust their friends, didn't want parents to see it, didn't want their spouse to know about it, whatever it may be. But odds are it was there before the video
but every now and again, I do get old $100s from the bank, even still to this day. Mostly when I pull out a huge chunk of money, has to be a couple grand or more and I usually see one or two older ones. So my bank does seem to keep them and not send them for destruction. Or at least didn't send the ones they handed me. I even got a really old 90's $100 bill once a couple years ago pulling out half of my unemployment check of $9600. They do pop up every now and again.
I just won another Xbox 360 E that I won from Goodwill online 😅 but will not come with power chord or HDMI so I gotta replace that but it will come with 10 games
most likely the person who owned it died and his stuff was brought to goodwill. Especially since its old cash. After a number of years the family was able to depart with his stuff.
One more comment. Who would ever think about looking inside a video game console for cash? I can guarantee you that the previous owner(s) of this console had a sh!t-fit when they realized that they donated their PS2/Piggy Bank to Goodwill
Agreed - I'm sure this was a stash for probably a teen or college kid and the parents likely donated the console knowing they didn't use it anymore and likely had a new console. That's the only way where this makes sense to me or somebody died and this we donated afterwards. Hopefully that's not the case though.
avermedia2plus but I have to use the av to hdmi adapter to then through the capture card and into my tv. Doesn't work on Ps3 4 or 5 though. ps1 and ps2 are the only ones it works with. I heard you can get them running with it but with a hdmi splitter. Never bothered trying though since PS5 you can record your screen right on the console.
shock...who forgets about $800 stashed in a console. But then I gave it more thought and thought maybe somebody died and this console was donated after the fact or it was donated by a parents figuring its an old outdated console not realizing somebody is using it as a savings account.
Nope! They either were saving up for a kilo or maybe they did too many and died and thats why this console ended up donated to goodwill with money inside lmao
