Good work figuring it out! Would be awesome to see a video on you removing it and fixing or replacing the part too. Good luck man I'll be keeping tabs. I also have a 580c around the same year, so now I'll know what to look out for if I ever start having a similar issue.
I have been standing where you are on my 580C but for a different reason. It started with a brake job and it ended up with me replacing both half shafts and bearings going to the brakes as the gears had a fair amount of spalling. To remove the half shafts which you would have to do to remove the carrier you have to remove the brake assemblies and pull both axle shafts then move the bull gears out of the way to remove them. I cant remember if you can get the carrier out at that point due to that frame support. Its a bog job. Once you pull the axles you need to replace the axle seals and to do that you need to replace the axle bearings. Then when you re-install the half shafts you have to get the bearing pre-load correct while also getting the backlash correct. So much fun but would be easier if the differential is out of the backhoe but that's also another task. Note: The half shaft shims are somewhat difficult to get. I had to get some off e-bay and some from old stock.
I made another video. We welded it up within a few minutes and it's got 10+ hours on the weld. It seems to be holding up great. Still have limited slip also
Hi there I was talking about your video mine was broke like yours I welded it put back together but don’t have 3 4 speed working is there a specific way to put shifter in right all other gears work do you have any ideas thanks

The ring gear is riveted to the carrier... The rivets have let go, and they are probably in the bottom of the case....

These differentials in my opinion are week in that the pinion is tiny. You have to be careful and not jam it in reverse while moving forward, etc.
I agree. Very easy to be to quick on the lever.
I was going to buy a used,old backhoe, but the more videos i watch, better to rent one for a day or 2, and not have to deal whith all these problems
