Chuck pouring a drink while Kenny was talking is classic comedy. Anyway Smart was right. I never saw the sense of wanting to avoid a team either. Why dodge anybody? You're gonna have to play either them or a team that beat them eventually so the sooner the better. Dodging makes zero sense.
On the flipside, it seemed like the Bucks were dodging them when they rested their main guys for the final game. It came at the expense of the 2nd seed, which Boston secured giving them homecourt advantage in a matchup vs. the Bucks.
time to rest/heal key players instead of having to man a full lineup every match, wanting the opposition to grind out a series or two before you meet so that conditioning is a factor , wanting to study their playoff playbook. That's 3 valid reasons why you might want to avoid a team in the first round, off the top of my head. Smart was factually wrong and he knows that ...He just said what he said because he wanted his message to be "we aren't scared of anyone".
I think the Bucks mainly wanted to avoid a Luka situation by having someone get hurt in a game that only determines 2 vs 3 seed. They match up much better against Boston than Brooklyn did because they actually have 7 footers that can protect the paint. And guards who can shoot.
Because the nets and Celtics could both be scary teams. Let them work themselves out and face the winner. Instead of having a tough first round and a tough second round.
In Ireland we had four guys like this that did all the big soccer games. Same sort of dynamic of laughing and joking until it came time to get serious and they could be brutally honest when needed. Love the Inside Guys they make basketball all the better imo.
Are you calling it soccer to be nice to us Americans or do you usually call it that ? Or do u live in the states maybe… anyway shout out to Ireland my man 🇮🇪
Marcus Smart being the glue guy on offense and defense is unexpected. His development is quite nice and complements everyone from his team. Tatum and Brown being the go-to scorers is awesome to see. You can tell they're surrounded by great teammates and personnel so they could strive more.
Are you serious? Unexpected? How long have you been watching the C's? When he was drafted he played like this. When Isiah Thomas was there he played great. When Kyree was there he played great they went to the ECF. He was projected out of college to be great, he was ranked like this in college. No sir 36 has been the guy there. We completely expect this from him. I'm an sixer fan BTW
ESPN has made poor decisions the past decade. I've noticed management chose Trump over Jemele Hill! I'm still having a hard time accepting that choice. One of my favorite ESPN shows was "His & Hers". When they (management) decided to move Michael Smith and Jemele Hill to Sports Center at 6 pm eastern time. They took everything I loved about His & Hers away from what Michael and Jemele did best. I seriously believe their show was sabotaged. Since then, I've stopped watching ESPN. That channel has taken all the character out of the programming.
Why? The Celtics had the best record in the second half of the season and were blowing teams out by 30. My prediction was Celtics in 6 but I’d thought that the nets would at least get a game. Give credit to this Celtics squad
Completely agree and those fellas saying Really? Why? are only speaking in hindsight. When you looked at the match ups before the start of the playoffs, this was the one I thought would be tightest contest
@@grahamwilshaw3507 actually no. The Celtics were always favored in my mind. Yes you can’t count out KD and Kyrie blah blah. Celtics have the better team by a long shot. I might be the minority but I didn’t expect the nets to win. No hindsight here
You're right. I hadn't thought of that--especially since they did not start the year that way. Horford is the outlier. That's pretty cool to have traditional team building like that rather than stars joining forces of their own accord.
That's incorrect and the vast majority of their homegrown talent is mediocre or worse. Heck, as good of a glue guy Marcus Smart has turned himself into, the guy has seriously underperformed his draft status.
@@Bldgrn034 Kyrie didn't cry either. He literally praised the Celtics for their play. Don't make things up just because you don't like a basketball player.

We gotta give credit to the Celtics, the Nets shot 50% and 40% from 3, those are good stats. Almost every game was close too. The Celtics just were consistently the superior team.
@@Nationof300 how did they steal game 1? They were leading until the nets had one run which they were able to stop and come back from. That literally makes no sense
We are just seeing the end of the era of the players we grew up watching (KD, Lebron, Griffin, Westbrook, etc.). The new era is here and it’s a young man’s league. Tatum, Ingram, Ja, Luka, got next. No shame in that
Marcus Smart made this happen when he called out Tatum and Brown for not passing the ball enough. Now they’re both creating wide open 3s for the other guys. Grant Williams is now hitting the corner 3.
For what it's worth, even though it was a sweep, the Celtics only scored 18 more points than Brooklyn for the entire series. Last year, the Nets beat Boston 4-1 but outscored them by a total margin of 56.
@@XxMVPxDawg That goes to show how much Tatum, Brown, and Smart have grown. Kyrie and KD are NBA champs and future HOFers; they should know what it takes. This sample shows that at least for this series, Tatum and Brown were on equal footing with "superstars" like Kyrie and KD.
Honestly the celtics look like they've got a really good squad, my pick for the chip at this point tbh. Great defensive squad, as long as JB and JT continue to step up offensively they can go far
If they can wall off the Bucks then they're gonna win the chip for sure. Defense plays a factor in this season more than anything and I think they got this
I see a GSW vs Boston finals and man do I think that will be a great series assuming Timelord returns to form. They seem like the 2 most cohesive teams (along with Miami) and it will be the old guard vs. the emerging young guns--always a classic dynamic.
@@lightingthief4482 I think miami, bucks and celtics are all sort of equal but the edge goes to the celtics offensively because of JT imo. Ain't over til it's over tho. Be interesting to see who makes it out of the west as well. Honestly I think GSWs playing at a championship level rn
His point was legit though. If giannis has to guard Tatum near the 3pt line he can't guard the paint as efficiently as usual. Not to mention he can't play help defense nor sag off to block shots because that leaves Tatum wide open. Honestly their best bet is to put giannis at center and leave either Middleton or another big on Tatum with the main objective of staying close to him.
Should be a good series. Boston won't be able to bully Giannis like they did Durant. And the Bucks, unlike Brooklyn, are a team with lots of playoff experience together. And Giannis, not Durant, has been the best player in the league for probably the last 2-3 seasons. It certainly helps the Celtics having home court now, which Milwaukee acquiesced to in the final game of the year. I think that will be enough to swing the series in favor of Boston, especially if Timelord returns to form soon. I expect this one to go at least 6, but then again, I thought that about Brooklyn too😂
This Celtics team is playing so well together. Completely opposite of how they started the season. The first half the season i was ripping my hair out when Tatum was trying to do everything playing iso ball, including shooting 3s with 6 seconds left when they were only down 1 point! Someone definitely got in his ear and told him no one can win without a team
Lack of leadership, lack of total commitment, lack of trust. The Nets don't play well as a team, it is reflected in their porous defence, KD and Kyrie are premier offensive players but are, at best, average on defence which requires more selflessness and they are demonstrably weak leaders, which is reflected in the second tier team defensive effort. Simmons, if he will amount to anything requires support and leadership - this is still a big if, and I can't think of KD and Kyrie as worse examples of the leadership he needs. Veterans hoping for a shot at a ring have options (among the possible veteran driven teams LeBron's Lakers, CP3's Suns, Curry's Warriors), why choose the Nets Hardin abandoned the sinking vessel because he knew the flaws, you can't trust the teams commitment to play hard at any cost, especially Kyrie Irving and likely Simmons. Any veteran player who could bring real leadership will not be welcome (KD left Curry to have his team, Kyrie left LeBron, to a degree Simmons abandoned the 76ers, Embiid and the 'joint-leaders' that seemed to be the initial design of that team). Of all the big US sports Basketball is the most individually driven but this abysmal performance and embarrassing outcome demonstrates that it is still ultimately a team game. The Nets are a poor team, with selfish and troublesome players, where the star players have been hostile to leadership and coaching.
With the amount of times Kenny said that the Nets might be in a “precarious position” made me think that they might be in a precarious position next season
This wasn't so much a changing of the guard as it was confirmation the guard has changed. The play where Tatum is backing in at the elbow and KD just watches from 3 feet away as he turns his defender and scores is honestly tragic. Celtics played harder and deserved this. Brooklyn...what a waste of a playoff spot.
The biggest problem is if KD, Kyrie and Simmons are willing to listen. At Boston, Tatum and Brown are stars but they listen and respect Marcus Smart as their leader. At GSW, Steph and Klay listen to Draymond even if they are better players. KD and Kyrie have history of not listening and causing rifts and we know Simmons has a massive ego after all the stuff that happened in Philly.
Not Only did the Lakers Not make the Playoffs but they were Below .500…. not Only did the Nets Lose in the 1st Round but they didn’t Win a Single Game!! BOTH TEAMS WERE BEYOND PATHETIC.
“They’re going to need some size” = Jarret Allen “They’re going to need some athleticism” = Caris Lavert “They’re going to need some shooting” = Spencer Dinwiddie Literally had ALL OF THAT on one team at the same time and traded it all away for some aging players and terrible teammate in James Harden. Sold the whole core of the franchise for nothing
The ONLY thing good that came of that was LeVert finding out about his cancer diagnosis and saving his life in the process. Those three along with Kenny Atkinson's coaching was working and going on the right path. The Nets made the same mistake in trading away all their draft picks and young talent for some declining players trying to win another ring. This franchise will never grow this way.
the superstar lineup only seems to work if the star players are willing to take paycuts like in Miami. It does not work if all 3 are getting 40/50 plus mil, ie the Lakers/Nets. You need an actual team 1 through 10.
People love to take credit away from those 2010s Heat stars and put it on Spoelstra ("he made superteams work") but the Big 3 played great defense and did everything it could to accomodate success and the roster.
@@SpindicateAudio Anthony may have been an offensive liability but at least he was a solid defender and rebounder, which was something the Heat needed at the time
No, no, that's a misconception right there. Back in the "decision" days only Wade took a very small pay cut, the other two guys were receiving the max salary available. They completed the team with mid level and minimum salary for veterans, to a point freaking Ray Allen earning the minimum coming off the bench lol Don't try to sound positive about that travesty of a team, this is disrespectful towards the sport itself
The only positive thing about this trade was that it saved Caris Lavert's life with that medical he took once he got traded. Other than that, these idiots traded away their elite bench for the most disloyal superstar of all time. Def going down in the basketball hall of infamy as top 10 dumbest GM moves of all time
The last 2 years for the Nets, have got to be up there with one of the biggest failures ever in the NBA. 3 All-Star, Superstars, people taking lower contract so that everybody can jump on this wagon to get bounced second round and the year later get swept in the first round, Simmons being a punk and staying put. 8:55 Chuck makes a great point about the Nets' payroll. They're already $60 million over the salary cap. Simmons, Kyrie, and KD are due to make almost $115 millon on their own, so you might have to fill the roster with a bunch of vet minimum guys like the Lakers thought they could.
Like chuck said beside the series. Brooklyn was already aiming for next season with a healthy roster. This team had such an unorthodox season it’s crazy. Celtics and bucks will be must see tv
Giannis will shine in this series. He loves playing the celtics in the playoffs. He got beat by these guys before and he beat them the year after but he knows this team is one of those teams you wanna have on your resumé..
You said it. The thing is all of the favorites to win their respective series in the east have beaten the Celtics in the past playoffs with the exception of 76ers. They have now beaten the Nets and they're hungry for more

That was a totally different Celtics team with Kyrie quitting on Celtics and had the worst 4 game stretch by any star (26 FGA and only 36% shooting) while calling off defenders on Giannis so he could guard him and get whooped. Will see if Giannis can get to the rim against Timelord, Al Horford, and Tatum, Grant Williams etc. They're gonna throw lot of big, long D(efenders hehe) Greek Freaks way.
Giannis can will his team past Boston I don’t think there’s a world where you can guard and contain him and even if you did that Bucks team has found a gem in Allen (as much as I hate him) so I think even without Middleton if Giannis wills it enough I think they get past Boston in 6 I firmly see them stealing an away game they’re just good at that
The fact that Brooklyn shot 50% from the field, 40% from deep, lost the series by an accumulated margin of 18 points shows how clinical and threatening Boston are to any team. I believe that they have a chance to go all the way if they beat Milwaukee.
@Enzo James Let's not leave out that Klay missed 2 gms of that series too shall we? GS still looked good when Kd went down that they were able to escape the Rockets, swept the Blazers, and took it to 6 gms against a stacked Raptors team with Klay didn't play game 3 when Steph went for 47pts, and gotta injured late at 3rd quarter when 'game 6 Klay' was on. Who knows that they would've got that ring if Klay was all healthy on that series eventhough they got no Kd.
That hilarious Nets-Lakers intro by EJ must have been in "Shaqtin' A Fool". Literally, those fools tryin' to make us believe the Lakers or Nets gon' win the TITLE... 😂😂😂😂
The most important part is not getting players. But them letting a coach do his job. Kyrie said we don't need coaching and you can feel he is having excuses in his mind. Covid for him is an excuse.
I was rooting for the Nets, but the Celtics have found their groove, and everyone finally started to look for each other and not be selfish, so I am happy they are advancing. Plus, I really like Marcus Smart. He is one tough dude on the court, humble and classy guy off, just an all around great teammate to have.
It came at the expense of the 2nd seed, which Boston secured giving them homecourt advantage in a matchup vs. the Bucks.
time to rest/heal key players instead of having to man a full lineup every match,
wanting the opposition to grind out a series or two before you meet so that conditioning is a factor ,
wanting to study their playoff playbook.
It makes sense because if the Physical activity wearing down on them because meeting up
Because the nets and Celtics could both be scary teams. Let them work themselves out and face the winner. Instead of having a tough first round and a tough second round.

Yea Celtics are really good with picking players that fit their system along with them being highly skilled and versatile
Yup Celtics are a dynasty. They’re one of those franchises that always have the best of the best personnel
You're right. I hadn't thought of that--especially since they did not start the year that way. Horford is the outlier. That's pretty cool to have traditional team building like that rather than stars joining forces of their own accord.
Who are you referring to? At least 2 of those guys - Horford and White - are not drafted by Celtics, and Theis is undrafted altogether.
That's incorrect and the vast majority of their homegrown talent is mediocre or worse. Heck, as good of a glue guy Marcus Smart has turned himself into, the guy has seriously underperformed his draft status.

Even tatum alone got a game against KD harden and kyrie last year nets couldn’t even get one
Allen iverson even got one against the lakers when the lakers team was stacked in 01. The nets have no heart.

Chuck: “For Giannis?”
Kenny: “No”
Shaq: “Yes”
Kenny: “Yes”
Kenny doesn’t know what he’s talking about😂
He never has lol

Don’t forget lack of accountability
👌👌👌 brilliant take.
Kyrie and KD are feminine and emotional. Can’t lead a team
@@michaeldavis8665 True that.
Fr no hate and are exceptionally gifted offensive players but KD and Kyrie can't lead a team like Steph and Lebron not even trolling
Reminds me of Westbrook losing to the Jazz than to Portland on OKC
Ben Simmons should have worn AD’s “That’s All, Folks!” shirt to the game.
Ben simmons nickname is street clothes now more than AD.
Everybody sat here and listen to you Kenny starts talking you start pouring drinks 😂😂😂😂

Exactly. Everybody wants instant results. That team they before the KD and Kyrie trade was great, they would have atleast made Boston work for it
The ONLY thing good that came of that was LeVert finding out about his cancer diagnosis and saving his life in the process.
