What is the objectivist account of symbols? Arent symbols caused by consiousness, and thus ideal? Things like money, degrees and licences. Are they reified concepts? " social facts" like Durkheim would call them.

Read An Introduction into objectivism epistomology. It's a small book but can change the intire way of your thinking.

Things like money, degrees and licenses are not “ideal”. They are abstractions. Money is an abstraction from value provided. A degree is an abstraction that refers to a position earned through education. A license (driving license for example) is an abstraction that refers to one’s ability to drive competently. The crux of man’s conceptual method is abstraction - a way of selecting, of “focusing in” on one particular fact of reality. This is not ideal, it is our conceptual process.
