    Watching these great videos , makes me think that shoding has been done for a VERY long time the same way. Decades, if not centuries now. I see artistry when I watch this/these videos..I am from a very old farming area in the Tennessee/the South. I still occasionally find the odd horse shoe that managed to get “thrown off” decades, if not centuries, ago, and they look pretty much the same as today’s, usually just more worn. I don’t think much has changed between then and now with regards to the artistry of what a farrier does. Farriers are so important to the wellbeing of horses, ponies, mules, and maybe even the occasional compliant donkey helping to keep a herd of cattle safe.

  • @vtchang28
    @vtchang28 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    From a curious mind: I feel like this hoof is a lot longer than most other hooves I see being shod. Do you leave length on these because they are strong and aren’t cracked or because of the type of work the horse does?

    • @heatherlea561
      @heatherlea561 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I remember back in the early 2000s there was this movement going on at my stable, where everybody had the horseshoes removed because they restricted the growth and caused the hooves to grow too narrow (at least that's what they said) so the horses had to adapt to walking barefoot again which caused them a lot of uncomfortableness and their hooves had to be bathed in special solutions daily. I never had that problem with my horse because she never had shoes in the first place, but to this day I wonder if this was really necessary? Are or were shoes really that damaging? obviously it depends on what the horse is doing but if you just go on rides for fun with an occasional small tournament here and there it really got me thinking if it was worth it... also, I am highly impressed with the horse being so cool about the electric sanding thing!

    What’s the benefit of burning the shoe on before nailing? I’m not worried I know it doesn’t hurt I’m just curious what difference that makes.
