Week 1 | EuroVelo 15 - Setting off and the River Rhine | EUROPEAN CYCLING ADVENTURE

- This June Izzy and I set off on bikepacking adventure from London to Vienna over a period of 7 weeks. The first week took us via canals and across ferries through The Netherlands, about half way down the Rhine in Germany following the EV15 route. Within this series, we cover over 3500 km of cycling, crossing the Swiss Alps via the famous Oberalp Pass & Gotthard pass, passing through the Italian lakes, the Dolomites and crossing through countries like Slovenia and Hungary. Day 6 - Cologne to Bad Breisig - 72 km
Day 7- Bad Breisig to Bingen - 103 km

Yeah there’s some great cycle paths in that section!
I'll enjoy watching.
I flew from the U.S. to Amsterdam in mid-April and road around Holland during the tulips.
Then, down the coast to the Hook of Holland, and road from there to Vaduz, Liechtenstein.
My end destination was going to be Andermatt, but there was snow in the forecast, so I backtracked to Lake Constance and then down to Zurich.
I'm looking forward to the rest of your videos.

Great video. This route would be my number choice for the eurovelo routes. Loving the Brixton cap; used to live there long time ago.

A question if I may. Why do you ride without fenders? I hate riding through rain without them, simply because it protects your gear.
Yeh for sure, to be honest I don’t actually own any for my bike, and as we were planning the trip June-August we thought we would probably get away without them, and made the judgement call about saving the weight

Just driven to Italy and that was hard enough🤪
I just stumbled on this channel. Last year two buddies and I rode from Bonn to Mannheim, where we detoured to Heidelberg and on to Karlsruhe (two of us lived in Germany in the 1980s). We rode 230 miles/370 km in four days. If I had it all to do again I would spend more time as a tourist than as a cyclist. Speaking of which watching these videos has given me another itch. Maybe Berlin to Prague using Eurovelo 7. Maybe.
Sounds like a fun trip! EuroVelo 7 through Italy was incredible, I’m sure it’s good further north too!

Thanks so much; nah I’m out in New Zealand currently for a year or so, pursuing more trail running for the moment - will put another cycle tour in the calendar though for future!

Cycling to Rotterdam it's the Maas not the Rhine and cycling at Kinderdijk the river it's called the Lek. Sorry for that.

Made me laugh when the title read European Cycling Adventure and the first thing you did was get on a train.
Yeh there was a long way to go, as you’ll see haha! We cycled over to harwich last summer as part of a trip to Utrecht so weren’t too bothered about repeating that leg!

You can't really do this on a sports bike.

Well, leaning forward is good for speed, but after a while it gets uncomfortable.
You really want a cruiser with an upright position. What is called an ' Oma fiets ' in the Netherlands. ( grandma bike ). Such a bike has the aerodynamic properties of a bath tub, but it won't break your back.
@@petersteinmeijer519not true for everyone... most people get uncomfortable with road bike position because 1/ their bike is either too small or too large for them 2/ they don't know how to position themselves right (shoulders "away from your ears"). This and switching positions (you can ride road bikes with your back straight) will avoid any unconvenience and let you enjoy the ride. Grandma bikes like you say are AWFUL for a cycling trip, don't even think about using one...!
