As someone who spent years working in IT, one of the first things you learn when you want to go into maintaining internal IT systems is that there is no such thing as perfect security. It takes a single person to find a tiny loophole in your security for all hell to break loose. As much as people want to believe otherwise, if you take any kind of photos or videos of anything, including yourself, there is a potential that the entire internet will gain access to it at some point. Your security can be good, but it is never perfect, and there will always be someone at some point down the line (possibly years later when technology has gotten much better) who will put the hours in to get what they want. In short, if you're well known and considered attractive by a lot of people and you are taking nudes of yourself, you'd best be ready for those to come out to the public at some point, and I hope that those who were targeted by this event learned their lesson, but sadly, it doesn't seem like it.
I had the same thought. There is zero entitlement to "safety" as they want. If someone wants something, they'll get it eventually, no amount of laws will stop them. Of course these a bunch of celebrity airheads so any thought of enacting some semblance of OpSec is nill "the whole world should cater to ME".
@@ma_junia I'm not really talking about laws, though the fact that every country has enough criminals for their prisons to remain open should tell you something about laws stopping people from doing things they're not supposed to. What I'm saying is that someone designing a security system needs to get lucky thousands of times for their security to block off every attack that comes their way, whereas a hacker needs to get lucky a single time to get in. Plus, it can even be someone like a disgruntled employee that leaks the data. Even if you completely disconnect your device from any kind of connection to stop it from uploading your data anywhere, will you destroy your device before reconnecting it to the internet or any kind of local network? If not...well, hard drive recovery recovers things that are far more 'removed' from a hard drive than just deleting them. Without getting too technical, whenever you "delete" something, it's still there, think of deleting less like removal from a hard drive and more like erasing the listing of a book's chapter from an index page. That chapter is still there in the book, it's just that if you're looking for it in the index (which is how computers handle data storage) then you won't find it in that location.
The story was depressing as hell and then I looked for sanity in the comments and it just... Damn, feels like no one cares about protecting women from exploitation as long as they can masturbate to it :( so fucked up

@@ma_junia I'm not a celebrity, and I want better laws protecting people from what still amounts to revenge porn.

Not as bad as “jithub” lmao
"jithub" tom definitely isn't a coder
"Photos are just data" and "transmitting data is free speech" gotta be some new top 10 reddit quotes

there were also male celebrities in those leaked photos and videos... but people tend to forget that. 😅😅
okay? does it matter? peoples private photos got leaked to the public, that's the worst thing in this video on its own.
@@olderalt.4066 "boohoo mah rich celeb leaked photos"

@@olderalt.4066 You didn't notice this fact never came up? Is that not in the least bit interesting? Ask yourself why that might be.
@@unbindingfloyd i don't know, I'm just saying people's nude photos got leaked and that's the worst of it all
Sad thing is that they no one would care if they weren't celebrities
i really feel bad for those whose privacy has been breached, to have such a large audience of people digging up humiliating images of you to broadcast to the world is truly horrifying, but i agree what the people are saying about the other terrifyingly degenerate subreddits that were still up.
I’d feel bad if they weren’t celebrities who prop eachother up and do even more degenerate stuff. They deserve worse than leaked pics…
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 i don't think that means posting cp of them is excusable. that only benefits more.. weirdos
i shouldve specified those who have my condolences are also celebrities who aren't terrible (there is a few, somehow.)
My(least) favorite reddit community was Candidfashionpolice. Which was the replacement to creepshots after it got banned.
Essentially men would take pictures of strangers to give them "fashion advice" and it was the most surreal, creepy, incel shit I've ever seen in my entire life, but nobody remembers it.
That’s because most people don’t lurk Reddit you freak.
Is candidfashpopo removed form reddit also? I am curious but already have a good idea what id be seeing, but what notable bullshit on there stood out that u can recall?
If they are honestly giving fashion advice, then they are likely either gay or a woman. Most heterosexual men don't care about fashion.
@@greywolf7577 ...one...that's extremely incorrect and I haven't heard that sentiment in decades.
Two. If you read my comment, it was a very loose cover to take creepy pictures of strangers in public without their consent and then comment about it.
Three: if you're taking pictures of strange people in public without their consent to the post on a public forum to be criticized by anonymous users; your gender/sexuality doesn't matter at all. That's a shitty thing to do. Don't do that.
@@stella-vu8vh im going to tell you even though it def sounds like you were part of the sub.
they were literally taking pictures of women in public, posting it to a public forum, and then "commenting" on their "fashion" but it just always happened to be women who were conventionally attractive and wearing extremely basic outfits. Leggings, yoga pants (this was 2012 ish), short skirts, active wear, etc. The comments were just a bunch of nonsensical jargon from creeps.
Back then, the mods would at least attempt to argue (and failing). Now they just delete anything and everything that doesn't cater to their narrative.
it’s a privately owned site. they have the right to do so
@@RustyRants sure they do, but you can't argue that it's not a shitty strategy
@@RustyRants doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.

I mean after all these events you gotta think they cant play no more games anymore so they may do that out of fear
When will people learn that anything you store or save on a device connected to the internet, there is always a possibility of some else seeing or finding it.
A reddit admin referring to other admins as "coworkers" is a true reddit moment
Admins are not moderators. Moderators are unpaid (by the site at least), whereas admins are genuinely coworkers. That is, if the terms are being used correctly.

The government doesn't care if millions of Americans have their financial information stolen and traded online, but they care if some celebrities' feelings are hurt. I'm not opposed to prosecuting the hackers, but I am opposed to the FBI focusing on these photos when everyday Americans have their lives ruined by hackers every single day.
