Minor historical correction (may or may not apply, depending on the rank): Italian officers (above the rank of Captain) in the Alpini corps had white feathers. Other troops (non-commissioned officers and lower officer ranks) had black feathers. Not sure what rank this fellow is for your forces. FYI: The leaflet in the plastic box for the Alpini is actually very accurate and would have saved you time. ;-)
You might be surprised - I've a raft of analytics that confirms the opposite is true. But the bonus of doing this mostly for my own entertainment is that I still get to do what I want.
Thanks Sonic. Well the fantasy vs historical debate is a classic. Far more younger folk into fantasy where as us older types enjoy historical- in general of course. That said, farrrr fewer people like yourself doing historical content so we are loyal 😀. Great channel. Any thoughts on trying your hand at a 40mm miniature? Many of us run skirmish games with 40mm and would love to see your great work, at least once, on a larger canvas.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudioWell I am in the minority of your subscribers then! When I start a new historical project, especially ww2, the first thing I do is come to your channel hoping you've made a video on my new faction. I love your presentation style and your attention to historical accuracy.
The figure looks great! I was impressed with how close the Field Grey is to the Green Grey in hue. I always like tutorials on Italian military vehicles and soldiers. Thanks for sharing this.
Beautiful job really hits home reminds me of stories my grandfather told me of his service in the Austro-Hungarian mountain troops in WW1 fantastic job and thanks for trudging up those memories
Kudos for mentioning 'Allo 'Allo, in my opinion one of the very best pieces of WW2 media ever created. :D I painted some Italians in continental uniforms a few months ago and just went with Field Grey.
Not necessarily one I'd turn to for factual accuracy, but bloody funny. 😂 And given when it was made, still with a lot of access to period-accurate colour swatches for the uniforms we see on screen, too!
Thank you as always! Especially for showing how to mix the highlights! WOW! I know it’s very obvious now that you posted it, but I using off colours of the main colour to highlight. It worked by not as good as it could be. Thanks again for sharing! Cheers 🍻!
Very well done, naturally such a "fashionable" uniform didn't last very long to the Eastern Front 's hellish conditions. I think that could be interesting doing the same figure, but with the uniform depicting how ruined was after some weeks of staying at the front lines.
Another fantastic tutorial, this have become an absolute lifeline as I work on my Sicily and Salerno project. Have you tried Vallejo Xpress Gunner Camo for Italian uniforms, when it comes to speed painting I find it close enough?
Gunner Camo would work well for grigioverde, I think, and Burnt Moss works well as a more faded version of the same. Otherwise there's also Landser Grey from the Vallejo Xpress range that'd work very well, too!
The new Alpini stuff is metal, for the time being. I've actually got some of the Warlord resin in other miniatures, though, and I quite like it. It's slightly different to clean up before painting, but it's light and holds detail well, so the newer stuff that's designed for it looks really good. I don't quite hold to that 'doesn't need priming' thing, but that's partly because I often use primers as my basecoats anyway.

I was honestly hoping you might weigh in to let me know how close I'd come... 😅
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio honestly it looks fantastic! You did a great job. And at 28mm, no reason to really the fuss!
Glad to see you back to historical content. I think the majority of your subscribers enjoy this sort of content.

Thank you , Troy .

Looks fantastic, never get tired of seeing you paint men in uniform.

Cracking work as always. I think you nailed the somewhat elusive Italian colours. Cheers!
Thank you! It looks great! I'm getting the impression that it may be worth picking up some of the Warpaint Fanatics flesh/skin paints.
What a dapper fellow!
Awesome video Troy. The officer does need to stand out a bit. Excellent miniature loads of character.
A really good video, thank you. Great result on the figure.
Great job. Thanks for the share.
thank you for sharing your techniques! My Alpini are not as dapper as yours but they roll 6's on the tabletop!
Looks incredible

Amazing.
Great vid, as always!
About to work on my Italians!

Damn, I thought this was for fantasy 😢 First glance - Robin Hood 😮😮😮
If you like the colour, then just paint Robin Hood the same way. 😂
🎵 Sul cappello, sul cappello... 🎵
another cool project. while you're on the topic of italians. how about the italian paratroopers Paracadutisti? 😀
At some point! There's a lot to consider about their uniforms and gear, is all. Camo gets to be a challenge after a few variations! 😅
Very cool, I love the mini, very characterful. Is it one of those new-fangled Warlord resin/siocast things? If so, how do you like them?

I'm curious, have you tried The Vallejo Panzer Aces Italian Tank Crew paint for Gridio Verde?
I haven't, actually. It's probably worth a look, too!
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Looks like you'll have to do yet another video about Italians 😅
What a mistake-a to make-a.
