Not a musically inclined person, but I can somewhat understand JYPs advice in singing in the middle ground because most JYP groups have hard choreography so they do need to balance dancing and singing LIVE.
Yeah I feel like the half air technique gets alot of criticism, but JYP groups are known for singing live with choreography being a huge focus. Look at groups like 2PM and GOT7 who had acrobats yet still sang live. SM groups are known to have some of the best singers, and they obviously use techniques there to showcase that, but their groups are not know for singing live
This is crazy talk. SM have some of the most versatile and best live singers in every generation as well as having some tough choreo that is often very inconvenient to singing live. DBSK and SHINee alone are evidence of this. Anything after 2016 hardly counts anymore since basically nobody actually sings live on a regular basis so it's unfair to the newer artists to compare across generations (for any agency)

It would have made much more sense to me for Aespa and RV to sing live with their choreography than for Itzy and Nmixx to with their intense choreography, yet it’s the opposite. SM undoubtedly has some of the best singers in the industry… when their company allows them to showcase that

I think JYP's method is more feasible for live performances. It's not to say that SM doesn't produce good singers but just look at some of H.O.T or Shinhwa's choreo and it's obvious that it is near impossible for someone without proper breathing technique (which sadly many kpop singers don't have) to sing properly while dancing live.

I hate JYP's half sound-half air. I find it really annoying. There's only a few singers in JYP history that I actually really like, for example Sunye but honestly she (and all of WG) got significantly better after receiving lessons in the US. lol Whereas Yoo Young Jin is literally the best singer in SM. My guy could rival any idols active right now.
There actually are more good singers in JYP than you might realize. For instance, 2AM - all four members are really good vocalists. Baek A Yoon. I thought Suzy and Fei were both good singers too. Sungjin of Day6 has a really nice voice. But you are right, it's kind of annoying that he tries to have everyone sing like him.
