Thank you so much again for playing my map, I thought you might like my like physbox bribe in the suburban living room :D I'm glad you liked the music as well! I've actually got live recording videos of at least a handful of them on my channel. I'll throw whatever ones I can find as well as a few behind the scenes things into a playlist if anyone's interested. Plus I think there's a soundcloud link to every song used except one that I keep forgetting to upload there lol I'll also admit, I have 0 clue why my little gman in the tower kept stretching like that haha, I've literally never seen that happen before! The jeep noises I think are from a version of the map before I added in some much needed optimization in that lodge/cabin kinda area, as well as realizing that my little cars were vrooming around when they spawned in instead of starting inactive. Whoops! For the secrets, looks like I messed up a few triggers lmao you got the mannequin and broken vending machine bit. I also just realized I forgot to get rid of that unusual apartment one, it was a kinda poorly implemented scare on that main street section with the barber and travel agency. The thin and tall brick apartment door used to be unlocked, and stepping in starts a little teleportation sequence, but I was scared people might get lost in the relative void so I locked the door haha. I think the triggers and everything are still there so anyone that wants to see can just noclip in. Thanks again for playing through the map! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and if you ever want to dabble in film hmu, I can give you some b&w cheap and dev for you lol
Oh and with nailing exposure in the dark with film, it's really such a pain in the ass but oh man is it worth it. Doing medium format slide film at night with super long exposures, then being able to hold like a 2 inch square positive in my hands is such a surreal experience. Slide film in general is so good for this, by underexposing and overdeveloping the colors become way more saturated and the shadows get crushed way down. Absolutely gorgeous 👌
Genuinely amazing map. I love how this also served as a fantastic medium to showcase your other artwork (photography & music). As someone who does a bit of both myself, this is really inspiring me to learn some hammer and put together a map of my own!
the party scene around 11:00 is a real highlight to me; in any of these maps you expect them to stay vacant and lonely yet clearly showing a scene of people alive and well and presumably having a good time really offers a unique tone. it's a different kind of eerie and lonely, creepy because you're now in the shoes of the weirdo stalking the party of unsuspecting bystanders, and lonely because it just highlights how disconnected you are from everyone else

The composition of that particular area just feels so spooky, and I think what gets me the most is the dim lighting just barely reaching across the counter, but completely unable to get past the doorframe or over the counter itself. It's looking out into the pitch darkness of an otherwise desolate, enclosed environment that triggers my fight or flight haha

I think it's not so much that dreams sound like old VHS-tapes, but moreso that old VHS-tapes sound like dreams. It's a muffled sound, like your brain is trying to imagine the audio but is also busy trying to imagine what makes the audio and at the same time is just busy trying to sleep. That muffled sound of VHS-tapes comes from the physical degradation, as if the world itself is trying to imagine what that memory of an object should sound and look like. Also, the umbrella man jingle and graffiti terrified me. Thought you were going to get swooped up.
Weather in accuweit representation of the real life space or not doesn't matter. It's like your childhood library Minecraft world. It might not be a 1 to 1 replica But instead it's actually something better. You manage to capture the vibe of it the way it made you feel as a kid in a way. An actual depiction of the real library could have never done
in the arg, the player finds a umbrella man spray in ravenholm which leads them down a rabbithole of demo files. some of the demos contain a 3d version of the umbrella man, accompanied by that jingle sound

When you mentioned the "disjointed photography" feeling of this map, somehow it reminded me of an old VHS tape I had as a kid called Beyond the Mind's Eye. It was a bunch of early CGI animations that essentially had nothing to do with each other outside of being on the same tape, and all being played to an amazing musical score by Jan Hammer. It was only an hour long, but it always felt so much longer - maybe because it was one of the tapes I used to watch daily for a short time. If you've never seen it - and have any interest in very early CGI stuff - then you should give it a watch.

Neat seeing this map through a different order than I got through it. I didn't find any of those really crazy animated secrets but i did find the dev room but through a bug in a prior revision of the map that basically just had the dev room spawn on top of me due to where i was and where i was headed. I like how one of the easter eggs is an apartment with a purple window. I've noticed this has been a trend in garry's mod maps to have some window in an apartment building (usually post-soviet) with purple light. But this is also a phenomenon i've seen in real life. Must be a thing everywhere. I'd guess just a thing that happens nowadays with the RGB lighting that's been coming out past 10-15 years. But for some reason yeah it tends to be purple. Streamer lighting, I guess. :p

You stop at a gas station on your road trip a few hours later. On your way back home you passed by the same gas station to find. That's obviously been abandoned for years. There's no way you could have stopped there and bought your snacks earlier that same day.
